Fresh Start

“Are you serious dude? Watch what your doing!”

“Dude, you take Call of Duty a little too seriously if ya ask me.” says Zack as he walks into the living room with three beers.

“Shut up Zack.”

“Is this all you do in your free time bro?” says Brian who is watching my intense game.

“I do other things too, I got a life.”

“Really? Like what?” says Zack as he hands out the beers and opens his beer.

“I workout, take care of Bella and hang out with friends.” I say, taking a sip of my beer.

“You should go out and meet someone, move on from Val.” Says Zack.

“Speaking of Bella, I’m going to go find her.” Says Brian as he places his beer down and stands up.

“Just because I’m not dating anyone doesn’t mean I’m not over Val.” I say, pausing the video game.

“I know but have you even tried to put yourself out there?” says Zack.

“Matt, I can’t find Bella anywhere.” says Brian running into the room.

“Dude, stop interrupting me!” says Zack.

“Did you check my room?” I say, standing up from the couch.

“Yes, I checked every room.”

“Damn, let’s check the neighborhood then she couldn’t have gotten too far.”

The guys and I head outside to find Bella but as we step outside the porch we hear Bella barking.

“Hi girl, are you lost? Let’s see if you have a name tag.” says a beautiful pregnant woman with long black hair wearing black tights and a black shirt as she pats Bella on the head.

She turns the collar looking for the name tag.

“Bella, what a pretty name.” says the woman
“Dude! Don’t just stare, go talk to her.” Says Brian while elbowing me.

I can’t help but be a little nervous going up to her, she’s beautiful. No Matt, stop thinking like that! She’s pregnant which means she’s happily taken.

She hears my footsteps and looks my way with a smile.

Damn, I have such bad luck. I would get attracted to someone who is spoken for.

“Hi, my name is Matt. Thank you for finding Bella.” I say as I hold out my hand for a hand shake.

“Oh, it’s no problem. I’m Jade and I’m guessing you’re my neighbor?” says jade as she shakes my hand.

“I guess I am if your moving in here.” I say as I notice the U-Haul behind her.

“Do you need any help moving in?”

“I’m actually going to head inside. I’m exhausted but if your willing, I could sure use your help tomorrow. I can’t carry those big boxes.” says jade

“No problem, I’ll make those idiots over there help out too.” I say, pointing behind me to Zack and Brian.

“Thank you so much. I’ll make breakfast for you guys. See you tomorrow at 9?”

“Sure, goodnight Jade.”

“Goodnight Matt.”

I head inside with Bella and the guys right behind me.

“Someone’s got a crush!” say Brian and Zack.

“Don’t get your hopes up guys! For all we know the baby daddy is still in the picture.” I say.

“I want to meet her.” Says Zack as I push him and Brian out the door.

“Oh, you will. Tomorrow at 9 am, we will be helping her move.” I say as I close the door not giving them a chance to say no.

I lock up and let Bella out and head to my room for the night. As I lay in bed I can’t help but to think of Jade as I fall asleep but quickly remind myself not to get my hopes up.
