Reaped: A Hater's Last Breath (Hater's Gonna Hate Trilogy #3)

Chapter 1: The Prologue

It was a dark and quiet October night, where crickets were herd but not seen, as Mildred Jones crossed the empty streets of Bat Country. The town seems as if life seized to exist. If an outsider ever came across this town, then he’ll probably think its abandon, even if it’s not. Everyone is in their homes, probably having a good night sleep or having dinner.

Bats began to creak in the shadows as Mildred turned into a dark alley and paused. She looked around to see if anyone was in sight. As soon as Mildred was sure no one was watching her, she knocked on a door that seemed to blend into the building, making it difficult to notice it. The door creaked open on its own, where there were stairs that led underground. Mildred stepped in. The door behind her shut on its own, and the torches that were against the wall, began to lit, making it easier for Mildred to see where she was going.

She cautiously walked down the stairs that seemed to go on forever, but at last, she arrived to the very bottom of the stairs. She began to walk down the underground tunnel until she have spotted a door with an image of a death bat.

She motioned towards the door, twisted the doorknob and opened it. She stepped inside and saw the front desk unattended. Her eyes wondered around to see if anyone was there. “Hello? Anyone here?” She asked as she walked towards the front desk. “Hello?” Her eyes turned to the garden gnome. It didn’t seem like any other gnomes. This gnome in particular had bat wings, a Mohawk, dark clothes, and tattoos. Mildred picked up the gnome, to look at it even closer, before carefully setting it back down. “Hello, anyone?” Mildred recalled, but there was no answer.

She turned away, ready to head out when suddenly, she heard a noise coming from behind her. She turned back and spotted the gnome shaking on the front desk. She took a step closer and before you know it, the gnome transformed into a man who was as short as she was. The two exchanged looks and neither one of them have said a word for the past seven minutes. Instead their eyes were completely glued to one another the whole time without blinking.

“May I help you?” He asked.

“Is this the VU Agencies?” She asked.

“It is. But we also go by Avenged Sevenfold” A tiny smirk appeared on his lips. “Follow me.” He pushed a button from behind the desk which opened up a secret passage. The man went straight into the secret passage, while Mildred hesitated for a moment, unsure what is going on. She stared at the man who noticed that Mildred still hasn’t moved from her spot. “Come on now, I’m here to help, not to kill you.”

Mildred started to move, catching up to the man. She could’ve felt the man’s eyes on her as she walked in the strange place, but they at last halted at the far end of the hall. The man opened the doors and escorted her in.

As Mildred skimmed around the room, she could immediately tell it was an office, a fancy one for that matter. The image of the death bat was on the red carpet leading to the desk and on the desk. Behind the desk was a beautiful blond sitting on a large man’s lap, they were making out, and it appears that the gnome man and I are about to interrupt.

“Shadows. I’m sorry to intrude but, it appears that we have a customer.” The gnome man cleared his throat to see if he could catch the large man’s attention.

Shadows and the blonde woman departed from the kiss. “Go on now, sweetie, we could continue where we left off later.” He got her off his laps and spanked her behind.

“His wife.” The gnome man quietly explained as we watched the woman exit the office.

“Thank you Christ, I’ll take it from here.” Shadows spoke to the gnome man.

“Yes sir.” Christ responded then turned to Mildred. “I’ll see you around.” He walked out the office.

“Please, take a seat.” He offer the chair in front of him. Without hesitating, Mildred obeyed and sat down.

“Tell me, what can I do for you, sweetheart?”

“I’m Mildred Jones, and I understand you guys protect all your followers, is that correct?”

“And are willing to hurt those who have mentally and or physically hurt them, yes.” He nods.

“Good.” Mildred took a deep breath. “I need you to hunt down and kill a couple of people for me.” Mildred opens up her bag and takes out a couple of files. “These are the people I need you to kill. Two bitches who have deceived me, my past boyfriends who have played me and have hurt in more ways than one, and a bitch who was my best friend for years and has abandoned me when I needed her the most. She have watched me getting beat up by a group of men. She didn’t even bother to help at all.”

“And now you want revenge on them.” Shadows looks through the files.

“Yeah but there’s one thing you need to know about the two bitches who deceived me.” She paused. “They are one of us, death bats like us, one of your followers.”

“Oh. Do you have any good reasons why you wanted them dead? How have they deceived you? In what way did they made you feel betrayed? Death bats are supposed to be on each other’s side.”

“I know.” Mildred sighs. “But they tried to kill me. One of them, Clarissa has turned the other one, Bernice, against me. I tried to reason things but it didn’t help, I’ve lost the only friend I had left to the Clarissa Bitch, Bernice despises me and now wants to kill me as much as Clarissa does.”

“I’ll take care of this, don’t you worry, but I can’t kill then, not unless... Well. Er… you know, right?” He nods. “But I can have them prosecuted.”

“Thank you” Mildred sighs without objection.

“I’ll have Christ escort you out.” Shadows pressed a button and placed the phone to his ear. “Christ, please escort Miss Jones out.” He hung up the phone. In a split second, Christ came in and has led Mildred out.

“I’ll talk to him, see if I could convince him to make an exception on those girls.” Christ blurs out as Mildred exists the building.

“Thanks.” A weak smile forms her lips.

“I’ll see you around.” He returns the smile.

He watches her shrink from a distance as Mildred takes a step further and further from him. In a matter of moments, she was no longer insight. Christ heads back in and manages to convince Shadows on what to do with the girls that Mildred is having trouble with.

Shadows calls out a meeting to assign who will kill who. Vengeance will deal with Bernice, Gates will deal with Clarissa. Ilejay and the late Reverend Tholomew Plague will handle the exes, Christ volunteers to keep an eye on Mildred, and Shadows will handle the last person on Mildred’s list, her ex best friend, Bonnie. As soon as the meeting is over, the reaping begins.
