Lost Time

Star's heart raced a mile a minute as she pulled up to the arena where Avenged Sevenfold was having a concert. She had a front row seat and a backstage pass. She wasn't nervous because she was going to the concert of her favorite band, she was nervous because she had to face Matt for the second time in her life. Star and Matt were high school sweethearts, but that took a turn for the worst when she caught Matt cheating on her with one of her best friends. She disowned the friend and left Matt for good. It's been ten years since she's seen him and she's pretty scared to see him once again. She parked the car and gained the composure to go backstage where she knew the guys were waiting to meet their fans. Why am I doing this? Why does HIS band have to be my favorite? Out of all the bands, HIS.
She sighed and showed the guard at the door her pass, smiling at him as he opened the door to let her in. She hesitated for a few moments, looking around to see if she could see Matt. She finally spotted him across the giant room talking to some fans. She avoided going over to him at first and just walked around the room slowly.

"Star?" She heard a voice say quietly.

She stiffened up and turned slowly to face her other best friend that she hadn't seen in ten years.

"Hi Jimmy," she said softy.
"Holy shit I haven't seen you in ten years!"

He grabbed her into a hug, squeezing her with all his might.

"Holy shit, Jimmy. I can't breathe!"

He laughed and released her quickly.

"Sorry," he smiled.
"It's fine. So how've you been?"
"Amazing now! I finally have my best friend back! You know it killed me when you left Huntington. And just so you know, it killed Matt too. He regretted everything that happened."
"Aww I'm glad you missed me! And oh really? If it was such a regret why'd he WANT to do it in the first place?"
"You don't know the whole story do you," he asked with a frown.
"Uhm... No?"
"She drugged him, Star. She knew you were gonna go over that night so she drugged him and starting fucking him. That little slut ruined EVERYTHING. And the fact that she tried getting with ME fucking irks my nerves."
"What? Leana tried getting with YOU? You were with Laura!"

He smiled at her and showed her his left hand, which had a wedding ring on it.

"Still am," he said.
"Oh my God you guys are married?!"
"Yes. Been married for five years."
"Aww congrats!" She said excitedly and gave him a giant hug.
"Thank you. You know, you need to talk to Matt before the concert starts..."
"I don't know if I can. I'm scared," she said taking a deep breath.
"It'll be okay. I'll come with you."
"Th-thank you, Jimmy."
"It's what best friends are for."

She gave him a quick smile and made her way over to Matt. She took a deep breath before tapping his shoulder softly. He turned towards her and his eyes widened.

"Star? Is that you?!"
"Yes... Hi Matthew."
"Oh my GOD," he said pulling her into a giant hug.

She was hesitant at first, but then gave in and hugged him back tighter. She felt her eyes beginning to sting from tears forming. She missed his hugs and most of all missed HIM. It may take a bit for her to forgive him about everything even though it wasn't entirely his fault.

"Star, I'm so so so sorry about what happened. She drugged me an--"

She cut him off before he could finish.

"I know, Matt. Jimmy told me. I just... wish it didn't happen. It ruined everything I held dear."
"You know I loved you. I always have loved you. I... I still do love you. I think about you every night wishing for the day that you'd return. And well, this is the day."
"Matt... If I take you back... Do you promise nothing like that will ever happen again?"
"I promise."

He took something out of his back pocket and slipped a ring on her right ring finger.

"I've been holding onto this promise ring for TEN years, hoping that one day you'd come back and I could give it to you. I've been faithful our entire relationship, but that bitch had to ruin the way you saw things."

Star just stared at the ring in shock. It had a small light purple diamond with a white gold band. Eventually she looked up from the ring and smiled at Matt.

"It's beautiful... Thank you!"

She hugged him tight, burying her face in his chest.

"So what do you say... Wanna start our relationship anew?"

She thought about it for a minute and finally nodded.

"Yes. I trust you to not do anything like that again even though it was never your fault entirely."

He smiled wide and picked her up in a hug, spinning her around and kissing her passionately. She giggled and kissed back. I guess I was wrong the whole time. I wish I had never left. Matt put her down and leaned down to whisper in her ear.

"I love you. Always have, always will."

Those words melted her heart and made her realize that he was being 100% truthful.

"I love you too, Matt."

They shared a long kiss and everyone around cheered and clapped. She smiled and sighed happily. My life is finally complete again.
