The Stage

CAT'S POV

The stage was decorated with pink and gold fake flowers and in the back, there was some kind of badly photoshopped dying angel. We'd been joking all along that the guys must be big now that they made it to MTV, though it was never one of their plans. MTV was, after all, rather for people like Justin Bieber or whoever else was famous among the little kiddies.

It certainly didn't look worthy of an Avenged Sevenfold performance, but Larry said it was important. But tonight, no-one cared about getting more known or about the kids in the audience, it was about Dave and the twisted game he seemed to be playing.

How sick does one have to be to assume kidnapping someone will bring back the love of someone else? I didn't know. Interiorly, I screamed. I was angry, helpless, but most of all it was plain fear I felt.

No-one drank or even ate as we sat in our room. Normally, the guys got crazy before a performance. Everyone ate about 3-4 hard boiled eggs and Syn and Jimmy drank whisky. But not today. Syn absentmindedly played with his pick. Jimmy sat there and stared at a picture of Lizzie on facebook.

"Hey, Jimbo. You alright?" I heard myself say. I sounded like a retard. Clearly, he wasn't okay. "Cat, you're my best friend. I'm just glad you're alright," he said, pulling me onto his lap for a hug. Matt gave him the evil eye, but didn't say anything. Our eyes locked. There was something about him that made me feel protected for once. All I'd known in a relationship were pain and submission. Maybe, I thought, this really is the start of something beautiful.

I let out a sigh as I turned away to face Jimmy. "Lizzie will be alright," I said, almost as if to convince myself. I had no idea what Dave was up to, but I knew how dangerous he could be. Jimmy was right to feel uneasy.

"5 minutes y'all!" A bald guy poked his head in, reminding us we still had to perform before possibly finding out. We knew the performance would suck. We couldn't concentrate.

Everyone was wearing black stage clothes, whatever we were most comfortable with. I had decided on black jeans with a black and white corset-like top, along with a black leather jacket with the deathbat, just like Jimmy's. That jacket had been his birthday present for me. I would have loved to wear a dress, but I didn't know what would come after that. Maybe pants would come in handy.

The host, some fake blond plastic bitch with her fake nipples poking through her pink dress, apparently famous from the Jersey Shore show or some shit, then introduced our band. She called Matt "N Shadow" and Zacky "Mr. Revenge" but other than that, she did okay. I had chosen "Cat May Killya" as a stage name, if only for tonight.

Finally, A Little Piece of Heaven started to play. It was weird singing Jimmy's lines, but the kids seemed to love it. Especially when we got to the duet Matt sang with a woman, begging for her forgiveness, they went crazy.

We made a show out of it, like Matt actually "stabbing" me with a theater knife. That means the blade goes inside the knife as soon as you touch someone. We used fake blood, too. The kids loved it. For the "wedding", we had someone bring us a black veil and then danced a little together. Even though he was sweating, he smelled so incredibly good. I smiled at him as he pressed a little kiss onto my forehead.

I guess we're official now.

The audience went crazy and for a second, we forgot everything around us. As the song neared its end, Jimmy decided on a crazy drum-solo we never rehearsed with. It made a perfect end.

Matt thanked the audience and MTV, reminded everyone of the guys' new album coming out soon. Then we rushed off the stage before they could start on interviews or whatever.

In that moment, I felt my phone vibrate. Somehow, I immediately knew who it was.

MATT'S POV

The text contained the name of a hotel downtown and a number. Possibly a room number.

The Rev, Syn, Cat and me decided to go. It was a short ride with the cab. The hotel was as shabby as its name, The Hut Inn, sounded. No-one was at the reception, luckily for us. So no need to explain why we were here. We immediately stormed into the room. I had imagined all sorts of scenarios, but I was not prepared for what happened then.

It was a dark hotel room. It was old, but not ramshackle. Most things were made from wood or kept in a dark beige, so that everything seemed kind of brown and ugly, but it was well-kept. I knew the hotel was about 40 years old and had never been renovated.

There Lizzy sat on the freshly made bed. She was a little thinner and wore a man's pajamas, but looked unharmed. I looked around. This was too easy. On the left side of the bed there was a door that likely led to a bathroom. Dave was nowhere to be seen, which I didn't take as a good sign. My muscles tensed immediately.

"Liz!" Jimmy raced toward her and they embraced for a long time. No-one said anything, but tension hung through us all, engulfed us like a dark veil. It was so thick, no-one dared breathe. Everyone was uncomfortable.

We should have run. But we knew it couldn't possibly be this easy.

And then suddenly, he came out of the bathroom. I heard his footsteps. I saw his gun immediately, even though it was dark in the room. It reflected the light from above. I felt as if all my blood was freezing in my veins, so cold and unable to react as he placed the gun next to Jimmy's head. Not Jimmy! I was motionless in shock.

"In there," he commanded, motioning to the bathroom. They obeyed immediately.

"So, Matt," he spat my name. His eyes hypnotized me. They were so empty, so evil. How could we not know he was so evil?
"It's come down to just us. Forget this clown," he motioned toward Brian, "he won't be able to help you. If he does, his comeraderie will be punished with a bullet through the brain." To show us how serious he was, he shot into the wall right next to his eye.

Brian swallowed. I did, too.

I felt my jaw clench. I wanted to beat the shit out of him. I wanted to kill him. I'd been good for a while. My anger management classes seemed to pay off finally, but my now the green little demon inside me was rising and I knew that this time, I wouldn't be able to contain myself. If only he didn't have that weapon.

"Understood?" he bellowed. Brian nodded.

We should have brought a gun, too. No-one thought it would be of use. How did we just storm into this room with no plan? Readily playing into his hands? We would pay for that now.
"Now to you, my princess," he grinned, touching Cat's face. She stiffened. I couldn't stand it. He was insane. Slowly, his hands made their way to her chest. She spat at him.

"Don't fucking touch her," I exploded at the same moment, pushing him to the floor. I was a solid 40 lb heavier than him. I felt his ribs crack under my knee. A heavenly sound. Cat screamed as he pulled the trigger. I heard the bullet whizz past my head before Brian screamed.

Next thing I knew was Brian bleeding from his leg and the gun next to my head. "No interruptions and I'll let you live long enough to see us fuck," Dave whizzed. He was insane.

There was blood on his lip and he coughed before continuing. "I'm sure there's a lot for you to learn. It's a shame you won't ever get to try it. Not with Cat, not with anyone."

Brian screamed and I was paralyzed. I watched Dave touch and kiss Cat for a while, but it was as if I was someone else, floating above everyone, like in an out of body experience. I saw myself and Brian sitting there in a puddle of blood, I saw Cat who obeyed with tears in her eyes to everything he said.

Cat! My sweet Cat, my one love. If my life is now to end, then I found her too late. I should have devoted my life to her.

Strangely, I didn't fear for my own life. I feared for Cat. I was happy that I'd found her anyway. The one.

Suddenly, the door burst open and two policemen stormed inside. Two shots ended that ray of hope abruptly before they could even say anything. Dave had reacted too quickly and they probably hadn't expected it.
I saw them falling down like in a video game. I knew they were dead. Both of them. He'd shot right between their eyes.

It was a warning. He showed us how we would die. That was, if he had mercy. I knew he hated me enough to make me suffer. At that point, everything was possible. I felt the walls closing in. There was no escape. If I moved just one bit...

A cold chill ran down my spine as I realized what Dave was capable of. He'd slaughter me and Brian just like them. Who was it that called the police though? Jimmy didn't have his phone with him. I knew because it was in my pocket.

"Undress yourself," Dave ordered with a raspy voice. Cat obeyed. Her eyes looked dead.

It didn't look good for us, did it?
