Darkness Surrounding

Our Future?

Emery’s POV

“God you’re beautiful, Em…” Brian whispered in my ear, his warm breath sending shivers down my spine.

I smiled into Brian’s chest, feeling his calloused fingers carefully running up and down my sides as he held me close. “What?” I murmured, pinching my eyelids shut to save this memory forever. It felt so good to lay like this with Brian, feeling the rise and fall of his chest and his warm embrace. I wanted this everyday for the rest of my life and there was no denying it anymore.

“I didn’t mean to wake you…I thought you were asleep,” Brian muttered while placing a line of kisses over my exposed shoulders. I could feel the smirk on his lips with each little kiss.

“I wasn’t asleep,” I said, rolling over to meet those dark brown eyes. I smiled as soon as I saw his face, my heart fluttering lightly. “I was just resting my eyes.”

The truth was, I still wasn’t sleeping normally, but more and more often I found myself drifting off in Brian’s embrace. There was just something about him that made me feel safe and secure, allowing me to let go of all of my inhibitions and fears and just relax. I still had the occasional nightmare, but it was nothing those chocolate brown eyes couldn’t pull me out of. He was my savior in more ways that I could count.

“Is that so?” Brian raised an amused brow at me, his hands moving to brush a strand of hair behind my ear. “So those weren’t cute little snores I heard?”

“I don’t snore!” I argued, still not believe that I actually fell asleep. I mean, I felt extremely comfortable and relaxed in Brian’s arms, but I didn’t think I drifted off. Not when we were talking about taking a trip to our paradise again tomorrow.

My heart soared just thinking about our time on the beach. It was where we fell in love and I would never forget that. It was our special place and I couldn’t wait to go again. Hell, I would gladly live in the little bungalow if Brian would let us!

Brian chuckled and propped himself up on his elbow as his eyes raked over my body. “Okay, so maybe it’s not a Johnny snore, but it was a cute little squeak every now and then. Don’t worry, I thought it was cute.”

“You’re full of it,” I giggled, resting my chin on my hand as I looked up at him. “I heard everything you were saying about our plans for tomorrow.” His eyes danced with happiness as he looked back at me shaking his head.

“Oh yeah? So you heard me say how cute your ass looks in those blue bikini bottoms?” Brian teased, wagging his eyebrows at me.

I blushed and bit down on my bottom lip. I still hadn’t regained my confidence after the Viper incident but each day I felt a little better. I would always have a mental scar but I hoped that I could move past it. We were taking baby steps and I was just glad Brian was willing to be patient with me.

Brian gently reached our and cupped my face, his thumb gently brushing over my cheek. “You’re so beautiful,” he breathed, shaking his head. “And I don’t care that you were sleeping. I’m glad you’re getting back to normal. Besides, I love watching you sleep,” he admitted, leaning in and gently kissing my lips.

“You’re just saying that,” I said against his lips. Why did he taste so good? His kisses were becoming addicting.

“No, I’m not,” he urged, lifting my chin to meet his gaze. “You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, and trust me, I’ve seen a lot of women,” Brian chuckled, pulling me into his lap rocking me slightly.

“But knowing I get to hold you and call you mine makes me the luckiest man in the whole damn world.” He looked so happy as he smiled down at me. “So don’t you think for a second I would want anything else. You’re stuck with me, Princess because I’m never letting you go. ”

A small smiled pulled at my lips from his words. He really was perfect in my eyes. It was like Brian knew exactly what to say to wipe away my insecurities in an instant. I placed my head on Brian’s shoulder as he leaned against the headboard. We sat in silence for a few moments, just enjoying each other’s touch and company. My fingers lightly twisted his hair between my fingers while he gently moved his hands along my curves. His touch was so soothing and warm that I almost forgot that we were both nearly naked.

“So if you could live anywhere, where would it be?” Brian asked softly a few minutes later. “Well…besides on the beach,” he amended as if he were reading my mind.

I smiled and leaned against Brian’s chest, running my hands over the colorful ink on his arms. “Someplace warm…” I replied, picturing a small house on the edge of the beach. That was my dream—a little beach house in the middle of nowhere with a private beach. It’s all I’d ever wanted and with Brian it finally seemed like it could be a reality. “Why?”

Brian chuckled, kissing the top of my head. “Because once everything is said and done, we are going to move away from here and give you girls the lives you deserve. And if a warm climate is your only stipulation, I think we could make that happen,”

“You mean move away from the compound?” I asked, looking up at Brian with a look of confusion. Was he being serious right now? “What about Avenged Sevenfold?”

Brian shrugged and ran his finger through my hair, looking at me with a small smile. “We will still be together, just not in Southern California,” he replied as if it weren’t a big deal. I knew just from our time together that the guys had spent years building up their territory and empire. Would they really throw it all away for Jo and I?

“But what about your territory and empire?” I asked, unable to keep my thoughts inside.

Brian shrugged again, looking very nonchalant about the whole thing. “It doesn’t matter. All that matters is keeping you girls and my friends safe, and we all agree that leaving Southern California is the best solution, especially with your father still at large. ”

Wasn’t that the truth? I still was had a hard time believing that my own father sold me to the highest bidder. I mean, how could he care more about money, power, and land than his daughters’ happiness? God, he must have really gone mad to think that Jolie and I would ever agree to that. I was not something he could just trade off for the best deal! I was not a mail to order bride!

Ugh, just thinking about it made me feel sick to my stomach. I was never going back there and I certainly wasn’t going to marry any man against my will. I wanted to live my own life and marry someone I loved, not be sold off to the highest bidder.

“Besides, who says we couldn’t start a new empire somewhere else?” Brian continued, pulling me from my angry thoughts. “So what do you say, Princess. Will you start a new empire with me?”

My breath caught in my throat at Brian’s words, my heart fluttering. His dark orbs stared into the depths of my soul and I knew we were meant to be together. “I’d love to,” I breathed with a large smile coming over my face. “I’d go anywhere with you…”

Brian’ smiled and pulled my face to his, kissing me with a hard tender kiss. He kissed me with such a passion that I felt it all the way down to my toes. It made my heart flutter, almost bringing me to tears and was enough to make me realize how much I loved him. I knew right then that I didn’t want to be anywhere else but with Brian and in his arms.

Brian gently pulled away and pressed his forehead to mine. “… I love you, Em,” he rasped, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

“I love you too…” I breathed, wrapping my arms around his neck. Before Brian could utter another word, I crashed my lips back into his unable to stay away from him. For the first time since the Viper incident, I wanted more.

I closed my eyes, feeling a surge of excitement as his tongue slid into my mouth. I moved my hands up to the back of his neck, pulling him closer and needing more. The man was as bad as a drug. The addicting kind.

I felt my stomach starting to warm up as his hands slowly slid over my hips. I swallowed thickly as he pulled my hips against his and I could feel his hardness pressing against core.

“I can’t wait to start our future together, Em,” Brian breathed across my neck, making my body feel alive. “Just you and me…”

“… just you and me,” I nodded before Brian’s lips feverishly crashed into mine again.

Without warning, the security alarm began screaming from above the door. I jumped and pulled away from Brian, my heart thundering in my chest. I looked at him in panic before he pulled me back into the circle of his arms.

“Relax, love, it’s just the alarm. I bet the Rev set it off again trying to come in after the run,” he said, kissing down my neck. “It always happens when he’s out late, especially with short shit… no one else would be trying to get in at two in the morning,” he promised and I nodded. If he wasn’t concerned, I shouldn’t be either, right? I mean he was an arms specialist.

“But shouldn’t we turn off the alarm?” I practically moaned, feeling Brian’s hands roam over my body. They gently landed on my breast and I let out another moan when he started to trace my nipples through the fabric of my tank top.

“Nah… let Shads take care of it. He’s the boss after all,” he chuckled before his lips claimed mine again.

His hands tangled in my hair as he gently laid back on the mattress, pulling me with him. Our tongues danced together as I took in his intoxicating taste. I honestly couldn’t get enough of him. Each kiss made the butterflies explode in my stomach, making me feel like I was having an out of body experience. Never in my life had I felt so alive and free. I loved this man with every fiber of my being, and there was no denying he felt the same way.

Suddenly the door unlocked behind us and Brian and I split apart, looking at each other in confusion. “What the—” Only he didn’t have time to finish his sentence because the next second the door burst open, revealing a group of heavily armed men.

Chaos erupted as they stormed the room, yelling and screaming commands as my heart thundered in my chest. Their guns were aimed at our heads, but that didn’t stop Brian from pulling a gun and a knife from the back of the headboard and pushing me behind him.

“Get down, Em, stay behind me,” Brian ordered, his eyes narrow as he looked around the room.

“Drop your weapon or we’ll shoot,” someone yelled and I shrieked, holding onto Brian for dear life. My ears were ringing from the panic that was coursing through my veins, the fight or flight taking over. This couldn’t be happening…

My chest heaved up and down as I looked around, my heart stopping in my chest when I saw my father’s crest on the eerily familiar green jackets. I shook my head, in disbelief. No… my father couldn’t have found us… not here…

“You are under arrest, drop your weapons,” the guards said again and I looked up at Brian with terrified eyes. From the expression on his face he was having the same realization I was.

Brian held onto me with one hand as he looked around the room, anger and terror etched in his features. He was severely out numbered and I felt like I was going to be sick. It was like my worst fear was becoming a reality and we were helpless. “Fuck you!” he hissed, glaring around the room.

Suddenly someone grabbed my arm and forcefully pulled me away from Brian. I let out a shriek as a shot sounded in the air, followed by a loud grunt and the disappearance of Brian’s hand from my arm.

“No!” I screamed, feeling a new pair of arms dragging me off the bed and away from Brian. I instantly started kicking, trying to fight my way back to the man I loved. If they wanted to kill him, they were going to have to kill me too. I was not going to let my father’s men hurt him. “BRIAN!”

My eyes scanned the room in panic as I was dragged towards the door. Where did he go? Did they shoot him? Oh god… I could feel the tears rolling down my face as I struggled against the person holding me. “BRIAN?! BRIAN?!” I bellowed, my heart breaking with each breath. No, no, no…I couldn’t have lost him. Not like this… not at the hands of my father’s men! This was a nightmare that I was going to wake up from… all I needed to see where those brown eyes.

“EM!” I heard Brian grunt before the sound of a punch echoed in the air. He let out a grunt followed by a loud curse, my heart stopping in my chest.

There on the other side of the room, three guards were holding a struggling Brian down as he tried to get away. “LET HER GO! FUCKING LET HER GO!” He roared only to get another hard hit in the stomach and face from one of the guards.

“NO! DON’T HURT HIM! PLEASE DON’T HURT HIM,” I cried, feeling my arms pulled forcefully behind my back as I was yanked towards the door.

“EMERY!” Brian yelled again, our eyes momentarily meeting before he was struck again. “LET HER GO! I SWEAR IF YOU HURT HER I WILL FUCKING KILL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU! LET HER GO!”

“We’ve got Emery Pagano and Synyster Gates in custody,” the large guard holding me said into his mic set as I struggled against his hold. I was hitting every inch of him I could reach, my heart breaking every step he pulled away from Brian. I had to help him! I couldn’t let them hurt him! “Take her!”

“NO! LET ME GO! LET ME GO!” I screamed, feeling a strong pair of arms wrap around my waist, pulling me in the opposite direction. “BRIAN! BRIAN!”

“Get her out of here and back in the car,” the large guard barked at the one who was now holding me as I struggled against his hold, punching and kicking in his direction with everything my small frame had. I had to get away. I had to help Brian!

“Let her go! Fuck—” Brian yelled from the room but I barely heard him over my own yelling.

“LET ME GO! I SAID LET ME GO!” I screamed as my father’s guard threw me over his shoulder and carried me down a hallway. I thrashed and struggled against his hold, wanting nothing more than to get back to Brian.

I could feel my chest heaving up and down as I screamed, tears running down my face. How could this have happened? How could my father have found us? It was like my worst fears had come true and I had put Brian’s life in danger. I could never forever myself if anything happened to him… Oh god, I could only imagine the horrible things my father would do to him and it was all my fault.

“Let me go!” I cried over and over, my screaming mixing with sobs. “LET ME GO! PLEASE DON’T HURT HIM!”

Matt’s POV

I jilted awake as the alarm sounded, my body instantly on full alert. What the fuck? Please don’t tell me Jimmy fucking set off the alarm again! I thought we were over this!

I groaned and swung my legs over the side of the bed, feeling Jo’s hand tightly grip my arm. “Babe, what’s going on?” she asked, her blue eyes meeting me. Even in the darkness I could see the apprehension in her eyes but she didn’t have anything to worry about. I wouldn’t let anything happen to her.

“I’m sure Jimbo just set off the alarm again,” I yawned. “I’m gonna go turn it off and do a quick check to make sure everything is okay,” I said before leaning in gently kissing her lips. “I’m sure it’s nothing.”

“Why would Jimmy be coming in at this hour?” Jo asked. I heard her quickly climb out of bed and follow my toward the door, worry evident in her tone. Her arm instantly wrapped around mine, stopping me from going out the door.

“The Rev and Christ were doing one of our last delivery runs to the Berrys tonight,” I explained as I pulled her into my embrace. I gently let my arms travel down her sides before pulling her close, taking in her floral scent. This woman was more than addicting. “They always run late with this distributor but it seems like they are running right on time today if they are setting off the alarm now,” I chuckled.

“But what if it’s not them?” Jo asked, her voice shaking ever so slightly.

I hugged her close and kissed the top of her head. “Who else would it be at two in the morning? Our biggest enemy are dead and we have a hidden compound,” I said with a small smile. “We are safe here and you have nothing to worry about, babe.”

Jolie licked her lips and nodded slowly, a light smile coming over her face. “You’re probably right,” she sighed, gently touching my face.

“Be right back.” I quickly kissed Jo’s lips before typing in the code to open the door, only for my senses to jump on high alert.

As soon as I opened the door, I heard yelling and screaming coming from Gates’ side of the compound. My heart rate instantly sped up as I turned around to look at Jo, my body instantly going into defense mode.

“What’s going on?” Jo asked, looking panicked. “Is Emery okay?”

“I don’t know, but I want you to stay here,” I quickly moved over to my gun cabinet and pulled out two guns. I handed one to Jo, looking her straight in the eye. “If anyone comes through that door, I want you to shoot them,” I instructed, watching Jo shake her head as her eyes filled with tears. “I will knock three times before I open the door… anyone one else, shoot them without any hesitation.”

“Matt I-I—”

“You can do this,” I met Jo’s eyes, nodding slowly. Deep down I was terrified to leave her here, but I couldn’t take her into the line of fire, not when I didn’t know what was going on. At all costs, I had to make sure she was safe and out of harms way. I couldn’t live with myself if something happened to her under my watch, especially after I had already failed her once. I refused to do that again.

“I love you,” I said, kissing her lips before locking my bedroom door and heading down the hallway.

With each step I took I could feel my heart beat harder and harder in my chest, my gun raised and ready to fire. I had no idea what was going on in the south wing of the compound, but it didn’t sound good. I swear if this was some practical joke from my men, someone was going go get knocked out cold. Though if I wasn’t mistaken, it actually sounded like a struggle.

“What the hell…” I hissed to myself, hearing a female voice screaming followed by a slamming door. Was Emery having one of her nightmares again?

I slowly crept down the dark hallway, my senses on full alert as made my way toward Gate’s room. Suddenly the alarm shut off and everything became silent. I let out a sigh of relief and lowered my gun. Thank god one of my men finally had enough sense to turn it off, and here I was thinking there was an actual problem. Must have been Jimmy messing up the alarm code and Emery having a night terror after all.

I chuckled and put the safety back on my gun just as I heard footsteps behind me. I quickly raised my gun and turned around to see those beautiful blue eyes staring back at me. “Jo, what are you doing here? I told you to stay in our room,” I sighed at the same time Jo let out a loud scream.

“Matt look out!” she yelled, and I tilted my head to the side only to feel a hard blow to the temple.

“MATT! MATT!!”

I felt like I was in slow motion as I fell to the floor, my eyes fluttering shut. The last thing I heard before the darkness took over was Jolie screaming my name….

I groaned as I slowly opened my eyes, my head throbbing painfully against the hard surface I was laying on. What the hell happened to me? I had a metallic taste in my mouth and my head was spinning, not mention that I felt like I got the shit beat out of me.

I blinked a few times, trying clear my blurred vision as I pushed myself off the cold stone floor. Where the hell was I and why was on this dirty cement floor? We didn’t have this shit at the compound? And as if on cue, the memory of the alarm sounding in my room flashed through my mind. The image of Jo’s horrified face lingering before my eyes.

Fuck, where the hell was she? I quickly whipped my head around to see that I was currently housed in cement walls and rusty old bars. No… where was Jolie? I couldn’t have failed her again… not when I just got her back.

I quickly scrambled to my feet, racing to towards the bars. There had to be someway out of his hellhole!

“Don’t touch the—” As soon as I touched the metal bar, an electric shock radiated through my body, dropping me back down on my ass. A laugh echoed through the room and I looked around bewildered, only to see Gates and Vengeance looking back at me.

They were both badly beaten, Gates’ face in particular so swollen, bloody, and bruised that he could open his right eye. While Zack on the other hand look like he was supporting a broken nose and a nice shiner. What the fuck happened? Who had taken us hostage and beat the shit out of my men?

I opened my mouth to call out to them, but it wasn’t my voice that I heard come out.

“You really thought you could fool me? How fucking dumb do you think I am?!”
