Darkness Surrounding

Can I trust you?

Emery’s POV

“Tell me what is wrong with you… maybe… fuck, Em… I will help you, okay?”

I scoffed bitterly and shook my head, glaring at him. Help me? He wanted to help me?! That was too funny! The only thing Brian was interested was himself and that was perfectly clear from his actions last night. I was nothing more than a pawn in the little game he was playing and I was done giving into him!

“You want to know what’s wrong, huh?” I snapped, narrowing my eyes dangerously. I wasn’t about to fall for his little ‘I care’ charade again. I was already too deeply involved with him and I couldn’t do this anymore. He hurt me way more than I was willing to admit.

“Yes, tell me princess.”

Brian’s pet name for me rang through my ears, making my heart lurch painfully in my chest. I sucked in a deep breath, feeling betrayed, hurt, confused and stupid all at the same time. What had this man done to me and why was I falling for the same line of bullshit again? He was just playing a game and damn it to hell he was winning, and that didn’t sit well with me at all. I wasn’t some prize to be won and I certainly wasn’t his ‘princess’. I was done and I wanted to get out of this room with him as fast as possible. Congratulations Brian, you won. Are you happy now?

“Fine, first of all. I am not your princess,” I spat, turning away from him. God, why did my heart ache just from looking at him? “I want to go home… I want to get away from here. I want to get away from you and everyone else! I want to take my sister and go fucking home!” I hissed closing my eyes trying not to let the tears come again. I swallowed, pushing the lump in my throat down and trying to remain in control. I wasn’t about to let him see me cry again, let alone talk to him about it. I just needed to get the hell out of here!

“You know what that is?! Bullshit! You don’t want to go home… Tell me what’s really going on!” Brian demanded but I just put my head against my knees that I had pulled to my chest, trying to shut him out. Why was he making this so hard?

“Em... Emery!”

Brain’s calloused fingers gently grazed my shoulder and I flinched away, ignoring the goose bumps that sprang to the surface of my skin. No, he couldn’t do that! He couldn’t touch me and make forget how hurt and pissed off I was. No he lost all rights to me when he used me.

“Don’t touch me,” I growled, my voice low and menacing.

“Guess what princess. I will call you whatever I want,” Brian spat, the love seat moving as he abruptly stood up. “And another thing, you are stuck here with me for however long we decide that it suits us. So you better get used to the thought again!” He warned before disappearing out the door.

As soon as the door slammed shut, I let out an exasperated shriek, pulling my hair with my fists and feeling like my insides were going to explode from confusion and ache. I didn’t care what Brian’ said, I had to get out of here—away from him—away from all this! I was in way too deep and it was only going to get worse! I quickly pushed myself from the chair and padded my way over to the big metal door. There had to be a way out of here—away from all the confusion and the pain I was feeling. I banged on the door, feeling my tears start to rise again.

“Let me out of here! Please! Get me out of here!” I cried, smashing my fists on the door, praying that Brian wouldn’t come running back. He would be the first to come to my rescue but was the last person I wanted to see. Though deep down I knew there was no escape. I was trapped in this room and Brain would undoubtedly be coming back in a few hours, expecting things to go back to normal, but I couldn’t do that.

“No…I-I cant stay here…” I muttered, shaking my head as my body slowly sank down the cold metal door. The reality of my emotions and confusion was slowly sinking in and I pinched my eyes shut, willing it to go away.

I didn’t want to believe that I actually let myself develop feelings for that asshole, but the proof was the aching feeling in my chest. How could I have been so naïve to believe his promises? Sure we had a great night on the beach, but that was it! There was nothing else there. If that were true, then why did it feel so real when we were together? Why was he the only person in my life that had made me feel so alive, even when we were just back here on the compound? Had that bastard brainwashed me? He had to of—nothing else made sense. But what did it matter anyway, as far as Brian was concerned, there was nothing between us besides sex and he made that very evident with his actions last night, the lipstick on his collar speaking louder than words. I was an idiot and masochistic fool who let all of this come on myself.

I groaned with disgust, pushed myself off of the door, and started to pace the room, twisting my hands in front of me. “What the hell am I going to do?” I muttered to myself, thinking about how foolish I had been.

What if Jo could see me now? She would undoubtedly try to comfort and scold me for my actions at the same time. Though usually she was in my shoes because I wasn’t the type to fall for a guy. No, this wasn’t me at allI. I was the hit it and quit it type of girl who got everything she wanted before anything got real. Was I afraid of commitment? I guess you could say that but my biggest fear was losing someone I loved again…
I chewed at my bottom lip as I made my way over to the bed, the confusion rising insides of me again. All I could think about was Brian smile, his eyes, and all the sweet things he always whispered in my ear before we fell asleep. I could still feel his hands wandering up my sides and leaving a trail of goose bumps in their wake, setting ever nerve ending on fire. Then there was the way he kissed me before Jimmy came into the room this morning. Brian made me feel like I was the only girl in the whole entire world and I could feel his every emotion, every longing with that one kiss…the kiss that lead to me finding out the truth about his night out.

Fucking hell, what was I doing to myself? Each of those thoughts felt like an arrow through the chest and yet, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Was I in love with the guy? No, I refused to believe that, not after everything he’d done. I couldn’t and wouldn’t be in love. Emery Jane Pagano didn’t fall for anyone. Hell I wasn’t capable of loving anyone other than my sister!

“Stop it! Just stop it!” I hissed to myself, pulling my knees to my chest, hoping this position would make the ache stop. I pinched my eyes shut as I willed everything I felt to disappear. I wanted everything to back to normal—back to the time before I met Brian or any of these stupid Avenged guys! They were all the same self-centered pricks. “Get him out of your head! He’s nothing but a egotistical prick who is playing you!”

But as much as I hated to admit it… I still wanted him. I craved his smell, his touch, the sound of his voice, and the taste of his lips. And the worst part was that I kept having these amazing dreams with the two of us, only to wake up and realize that none of it was true. God I missed him and longed for his touch— his anything. But I knew that’s not what he wanted, so even if I could forgive him it wouldn’t make much difference.

“No…no…no,” I hissed, shaking my head as I pinched my eyes shut.

I couldn’t forgive him and I couldn’t like him the way that I did. He was my kidnapper and one of my father’s most hated enemies! Besides, I was nothing more than a pawn to him, a paycheck, and something to occupy his time. It was better for me to see it now before I got into this mess any deeper. Yet at the same time, I couldn’t let go of how he made me feel…Oh god…I was in way too deep!

I spent the next few hours rolling around the large empty bed, trying to figure out a way to forget about Brian or get rid of my feelings. Unfortunately each thought made me feel more and more confused and I had no idea what to do. I mean, how the hell was I supposed to act around him when he came back? Pretend everything was okay? Hell no, I couldn’t do that but then again, what could I do to keep him away from me? Distance was the only solution I could come with—eliminate my source of discomfort—but somehow I didn’t think that was possible.

“Hey…princess…” I heard Brian’s deep voice grumble in my ear some hours later, stirring me from the restless sleep I had fallen into. I instantly stiffened when I felt his hand on my shoulder followed by the wave of mouthwatering cologne. Why did he have to smell so good?

“I got a surprise for you,” he continued but I didn’t move. Looking at him and those gorgeous brown eyes would only make things worse. Come on, be strong Em…don’t give into him. Ignore him and maybe he will go away again, I told myself. It’s for the best.

“Come on, let me show you something.” The sheets were suddenly pulled off of me followed by a pleading tone. “Please?”

I stared straight ahead at the wall, shaking my head. I didn’t want anything he had to offer unless it was a way for me to go home or to be with Jolie. Wait, was he going to take me to my sister? Was he finally going to give into my request and take me out of here? It was about time he came to his senses!

I quickly stood up to put some more distance between us but stumbled sideways, feeling a little dizzy from lying down and not eating anything all day. I gasped in surprise as Brian’s strong arms grabbed me around the waist and a jolt of electricity shot down my spine. “Wh-What surprise are you talking about?” I asked softly, forcing myself to take a step away from him. God why did I crave him so much?

“I’ll show you… but you have to follow me,” Brian smirked, his eyes twinkling ever so slightly. That subtle motion alone made my stomach explode with butterflies, leaving me a burst of excitement. So he was taking me to my sister! I couldn’t wait to get away from Brian find out how Jolie was doing. Hadn’t she been upset last night too? And more importantly, where had she disappeared to in the middle of the night?

“My sister… will I spend time with her?” I asked excitedly.

“No, sorry princess… but I bet I can make it worth your while,” Brian grumbled irritable as he pulled me along behind him down the hallway, the excitement I felt quickly replaced by anxiety. Make it worth my while? Yeah, I highly doubted that. What I needed was to get away from him before something happened. I couldn’t let him take advantage of me again.

“Brian I— ” I started to rebuttal just as Brian pulled me around the corner to the living room, revealing a rather extravagant set up.

The couch was set up like a make-shift thrown of pillows while the coffee table overflowed take out containers from my favorite Italian place on the beach, a number of different beverages, a large array of movies, and most importantly a few different bottles of wine. It had been ages since I had a glass of wine and my mouth watered at the thought of it.

“What-what is all this?” I gasped, feeling my heart start to beat faster in my chest as I looked around the room. Had he really done all this for me? Was it some kind of trick? I wasn’t sure but the smell of the food alone was making my stomach growl angrily. Was that alfredo pasta with shrimp? How did he know that was my favorite?

Brian smiled and ran hand over the back of his head, looking slightly nervous. “This is just a little something I put together for you…I thought you might be hungry,” he said just as my stomach grumbled loudly. “So what do you say? Have dinner with me?” Brian offered me his hand and stared at hesitantly, my heart beating wildly in my chest. All of my senses were telling me to run for it but I knew I wouldn’t make it very far on an empty stomach.

“Come on, Princess,” he tried again, reaching for me as I took another step backwards. No, don’t trust him. He is only going to screw you over again, the little voice inside my head screamed. Avoid eye contact. You know you can’t resist him if you look directly into those dreamy eyes.

“I-I don’t think this is a good idea. I just—” I started, looking down at the floor as I shook my head, slowly backing up. The panic in my chest was starting to rise and I didn’t know what to do. I was still confused about this whole situation and Brian’s hot and cold actions were only making it worse.

“What kind of girl turns down Baci and all the wine her little hear desires,” Brian said taking a step toward me. “Come on, Em just come sit down,” he pleaded, his handsome features looking hurt.

“I-I can’t I-I’m just not hungry,” I lied, taking another step back as my stomach growled again.

“Bullshit, Em. I can hear your stomach growling. When was the last time you ate?” Brain said, shaking his head before grabbing me around the waist, his other hand gently cupping my face. The moment the browns of his eyes met mine and his hand graced the skin on my lower back, I felt a shiver run up my spine. “Please Em just come have something to eat and a glass of wine. I promise you’ll love Baci. It’s the best Italian place on the beach and…” he let out a long defeated sigh. “…and if you still want to go to the other room after you eat, I’ll take you there.”

I opened and closed my mouth a few times, shock written all over my face from his words and proximity. He was really doing all this for me? It seemed too good to be true, but I couldn’t pull away from him right now. The bastard had me under his spell. “Fine,” I said weakly, his cologne infiltrating my nostrils like a drug. “But only because I love Baci.”

“You’ve had Baci before?” Brain asked, a smile spreading over his face. “I didn’t think the Pagano’s had anything from the other side of the tracks.”

“Well, what daddy doesn’t know won’t hurt him. Their food is better than anything our private chefs make,” I said quietly as Brian sat me down in the thrown of pillows and opened the bottle of very expensive looking Pinot Noir. I hesitantly took the glass, my mouth watering from just thinking about its glorious taste. I wanted nothing more than to enjoy this wine but I still didn’t know what kind of game Brian was trying to play here.

“So that night at the club wasn’t the first time you and your sister snuck out of the house? Why am in not surprised,” Brian chuckled, making both of us a plate of assorted foods. “Have you always been one to get yourself in trouble?”

I took a large gulp of the wine, enjoying the tingling sensation on my tongue and the light warming sensation it cause as it traveled down the back of my throat. I let out a light moan of delight. Damn it was good and it had been weeks since I had an alcoholic beverage. “I guess you could say that,” I said vaguely, continuing my romance with the glass of wine. “I don’t like being told what to do.”

“Image that…whoa take it easy, Em,” Brian smirked as I downed the rest of my glass, which in my opinion was way too small. “We have dinner too, you know?”

“I’ll eat after you give me another glass,” I bartered, feeling the warmth rise in my face from the wine. It was no secret that wine hit me hard and fast, especially since I hadn’t had anything to eat in over twenty-four hours.

“Ill tell you what,” oh and there was that smirk that made my heart beat faster. “How about I pour you another glass of wine and you tell me how you ended up at Baci for the first time?” What was he trying to play twenty questions?

I narrowed my eyes at him and picked up my plate, trying to figure out his motive. Brian was definitely up to something but what I wasn’t sure. All I knew was that I wanted another glass of wine to push away this foreign feeling in my chest. “Deal…pour!” I demanded, pointing at the glass as Brian shook his head. “No, you start and then I’ll pour.”

I rolled my eyes and took a bite of the pasta, a moan instantly escaping my lips. Damn I forgot how good this stuff was! It had been ages since I’d had anything that tasted this good. Hell, I could eat Italian every day if it wouldn’t make me fat. “Well…I have a friend that lives over in your territory,” I said with my mouthful. “Met her at the bar one night and we instantly hit it off,” I said with a smile, thinking of my best friend Melody. She was my closest friend besides Jolie, but don’t tell Jo that I had a friend from the other side of the tracks, she would flip shit! “And one night I snuck out of the house and she took me their for dinner…and my world was changed forever…there happy?” I finished, pointing at the glass again.

“Ecstatic,” Brian chuckled as I grabbed my glass and took another large sip. “So whose you’re friend from our districts. Wonder if I know her…” he mused, watching me eat and drink with a small smirk on his face.

“Wouldn’t you’d like to know,” I muttered under my breath with my mouthful. It wouldn’t surprise me if he wanted to find her and fuck her too. That seemed to be his motif.

“What does that mean?” I looked up from my half-eaten plate to see a pair of very confused eyes looking back at me and I scoffed. “Of course I want to know about you or else I wouldn’t have asked!”

“Well don’t waste your time,” I snapped before taking another gulp of wine. Man I was really starting to feel this wine now and I was only half way through my second glass. I guess I would always be a lightweight. “I’m just the fun time, no need to get to know me,” I finished, looking down at my plate. I didn’t feel very hungry anymore.

“What are you talking about, Em?” Oh don’t play dumb Gates. It doesn’t suit you well.

“Nothing! I’m not talking about anything,” I said, setting my plate down and pulling knees to my chest. If he didn’t know what he did wrong then I wasn’t about to tell him. I was stupid to trust this act for even a second.

“Em—”

“Don’t worry about it, just put on a movie,” I sighed, taking another large gulp of wine as Brian got up to start a movie. Thank goodness he didn’t push the topic any further. “It’s not important anyway…” I muttered to myself.

Over an hour later, I found myself contently intoxicated and cuddled into the mound of pillows that separated Brian and I. I had lost track of how many times Brian had refilled my glass but I wasn’t complaining. Finally everything felt right and I didn’t have a care in the world. I wanted nothing more than to curl into a ball and fall into a peaceful dreamless sleep. The only thing that was missing was the warm body next to me…

“You okay, Em?” Brian whispered in my ear as my eyes started to get heavy. I was trying my best to focus on the movie but smell of that intoxicating cologne next to me was making it hard to concentrate on anything. “You need anything?” He carefully brushed a strand of my blonde hair behind my ear, the contact causing me to take in a ragged breath.

“No…I’m just tired,” I yawned, my body shivering ever so slightly. I was so drunk and tired that I couldn’t even think straight, let alone fend off Brian’s advances. Hell, deep down I didn’t want to – some sick twisted part of me still wanted him.

“Do you want me to take you to bed?” Brian said, carefully pulling me into his side and putting his arm around my shoulder. His warmth instantly soaked into my body and cuddled closer, trying to get more of his body heat and more of his mouthwatering scent.

I shook my head against his chest, breathing in and out deeply. “No…I want to finish the movie.”

“We could always finish it later,” Brian chuckled, my head bouncing on his chest ever so lightly.

“No…it’s okay,” I muttered sleepily. “Besides the warmth feels too good to move right now. I’m just so cold…”

“Hold on, I can fix that,” and with that I felt Brian lean back into the couch, carefully pull my body onto his lap, and wrap a throw blanket around me. “How’s that?”

I looked up at Brian with a smile and gently kissed his cheek. “Much better, thank you,” I said, my eyes growing wide from my own action. Where the hell did that come from?

I didn’t have time to think about it because the next thing I knew Brian’s hand gently cupped my face as he captured my lips in a delicate kiss. This kiss was different then the kiss we shared earlier in the day. This one was tender, sweet, and sent goose bumps all over my body. The kiss felt like we were the only two people in whole world, everything else forgotten and gone and I couldn’t get enough.

Brian’s tongue gently brushed my lower lip and I gasped in surprise, allowing his tongue to dance the sensual tango with mine. His thumb lightly ran over my cheek and moaned into the kiss, pressing my body closer to his. I couldn’t get enough of the feeling coursing through my veins and part of me never wanted this moment to end.

The kiss lasted long while and when Brian finally pulled away, he stared into my, drowning me in his brown orbs. “Damn you’re beautiful, Em,” he whispered as I cuddled into his chest again, feeling my eyelids drooping heavily. I could feel his hand softly petting my head as I started to drift out of consciousness, my body feeling content and alive for the first time in days.

Matt’s POV

“I got the reservations you asked for,” Jimmy said, leaning in the doorway of my office. “Also got the town car with the tinted windows ready. What are you planning on doing with that anyway?” Jimmy asked suspiciously.

“I have a business meeting,” I lied, flipping through the papers on my desk, looking for the district security report Vengeance should have brought me hours ago.

“With who?” Jimmy narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking at me with a frown. “I didn’t see any meeting on our calendar this morning and since when do you rent out the whole restaurant on the boardwalk for a deal?”

“What the hell does it matter?” I snapped. I was about sick of playing twenty questions with all my men. Why couldn’t they just fucking do what I told them to and get back to work? If I wanted them to know, I would have told them!

Jimmy looked at me with a raised brow and I sighed, quickly coming up with a lie he would hopefully believe. He was a slick motherfucker who caught onto everything that was outside the ordinary. The Rev was an expert in the field of recognizing deception; I just wished he would use those skills with his best friends. Some things were just better kept private. “It’s a new client to trade goods with from Burbank and we need to make a good impression,” I snapped, feeling very irritable from the stress of this date.

I had to show Jolie that I was serious about her and how much she meant to me. Just the thought of her distancing herself from me was driving me crazy and I couldn’t stand being away from her for this long. I loved the girl and everything had to be perfect and run smoothly with no mistakes. I couldn’t lose her…

“Do you want back up? You never know who or what a new client is going to bring to the table,” Jimmy continued as he carefully watched my reaction. God fucking damn it! Why couldn’t he just drop this?

“No, I know this client. She is an old friend,” I replied, looking down at my watch. Where the hell was Vengeance with those reports? I would need to get ready shortly and I needed that information to make sure everything was safe.

A smirk slowly fell over Jimmy’s face as he pushed away from the wall. “Are you meeting up with Valary?” he asked with a knowing look. “I thought that deal was closed a long time ago…” he continued, wagging his eyebrows at me as I wrote a quick note to Jolie, telling her to dress nice and be ready to leave for our date at five.

“Fuck off, Rev. It’s just a deal,” I lied again, pushing past him out the door. It was better for him to think it was my ex-fling instead of Jolie. That would only cause more problems. I just needed to distract him so he didn’t catch me taking her out.

“Just make sure everything is ready to go by five. I want the car parked by the back door and I want you and Christ to dig up what Pagano wants. He called earlier and set up a meeting with me tomorrow morning. Find out what is going on so we’re not going into the hornet’s nest blind and tell Gates we leave at 9:00 AM sharp.”

With that I quickly made my way down the hall toward my room, slipped the note underneath the door for Jolie, and then made my way toward Zack’s room. We still needed to talk about his outburst from earlier and I swear if he didn’t have those reports ready then he was going to have nice reunion with my right fist. I quickly punched in the master passcode and opened his bedroom door to see him laying on the bed throwing a baseball up toward the ceiling.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I snapped but he didn’t move. “I really hope you’ve got those fucking reports done or else we are going to have a problem.”

Vengeance scoffed and caught the baseball before turning to me. “Yeah, and what are you going to do if I didn’t? Tell us another lie? I told you that wasn’t my fucking job,” he retorted, pulling out his pack of cigarettes.

Tell them a lie? What the fuck was he talking about and where was this all coming from? “What the hell are you talking about, Vee? If I ask you to fucking do something you should do it!” I bellowed, my anger rising from his insubordination. None of my men talked like this and if they did, they got a very brutal lesson. “I’ll give you a half an hour to get those reports together,” I warned, taking a step toward him as he blew out a cloud of smoke. “If they are not on my desk—”

“Fuck you, I’m not doing those damn reports,” Zack said, glaring me down. “I’m not about to be your whipping boy when you can’t even tell me the goddamn truth about what is going on! We are supposed to be brothers and you’ve done nothing but lie to all of us! Fuck you Matt, you can do your own shit! I’m fucking done!”

Zack’s words felt like a slap in the face and I instantly saw red. “What the hell are you talking about? I’ve put my neck on the line for you time and time again. Don’t forget who has saved your ass from Pagano on multiple occasions. If it wasn’t for me, you’d be fucking dead!” I yelled, clenching my fists. How dare he fucking accuse me of lying to him and not doing my job!

“Oh don’t act like your so fucking innocent!” Zack snapped, putting out the butt of his cigarette. “You’ve been lying to us for weeks! I just can’t believe I found out from Jolie instead of you—someone I considered to be one of my best friends!”

I furred my brow in confusion, watching a very pissed off Vengeance pace the room. What the hell was he talking about and what did Jolie tell him? Was she secretly trying to tear us apart so her father could win? No! I refused to believe it. “What the hell are you—”

“We need to set some ground rules,” Zack started lowering his voice to mock me before he gave my chest a firm shove. I clenched my fists and took a step toward him, red starting to blur my vision. He was about three seconds from his ass ending up on the floor. “The girls are a paycheck and are not play things. The girls are off limits!” he raged, shoving me again. “How many fucking times did you tell us the girls were off limits, huh? Then I find out that you’re fucking Pagano’s daughter?!” My mouth instantly dropped as I started at him. How did he find out about Jolie and I? Did she tell him?

“I’m not fucking—” I started only to feel a left hook to the face. I stumbled sideways into the wall, holding my face.

“DON’T FUCKING LIE TO ME, SHADOWS! I KNOW THE TRUTH” Zack yelled, his eyes glowing with anger. “You fucking punished me for calling dibs on the girl and what was that for? So you could have sloppy seconds with the Pagano slut?! She told me all about it this morning!”

“It’s not fucking like that,” I raged, shoving him back. What did he mean Jolie told him all about our relationship this morning? Did that mean she still wanted a relationship with me? But why would she talk to Zack about it when we promised to keep it a secret? “And don’t fucking call her that!” I said, raising my fist at him.

“Well, if the shoe fits!” Oh that was it! I gave him a good solid punch in the jaw and watched him stumble backwards to the floor.

“It’s not fucking like that at all!” I bellowed, my chest heaving up and down. “I never intended for this to happen! I tried to keep away from her but I fucking fell for her, okay? Is that what you wanted to hear?!” I raged, feeling my anger drifting away. “And I am taking her our to keep everything together.”

“What do you mean keep it all together?” Zack asked, slowly getting of the floor and looking at me. The mood of the room had drastically changed in a matter of seconds. “What happened? Did you fuck it up?” He continued to ask as I sat down on the bed and ran my hands over my face.

“April and her big fucking gestures fucking everything up. Jo saw her kiss me and thought there was something there…and I even fucking told her—fuck—I even told her that I loved her…but she still isn’t sure if she can trust me or some shit,” I sighed, not believing that I was spilling everything right now. Though I had to admit that it felt good to have someone to talk to. “Fucking April…”

Zack opened and closed his mouth a few times as he looked at me, shock written all over his features. “She’s different for you isn’t she?” he asked softly, looking down at the ground with an unreadable expression.

I nodded my head with a half smile. “Yeah…I’ve never met anyone like her and I cant let that stupid misunderstanding with April ruin everything. Tonight needs to be perfect…”

Zack nodded and stood up, offering me his hand. “Then let’s make it perfect,” he said and I looked up at him with a raised brow. After his little temper tantrum he was going to help me? “I’ll go check out the area and I’ll will personally take you two in the town car. Nothing will ruin this night, okay?” he said and nodded my head before pulling him in for a quick bro hug. What would I do without my best friends?

“Thanks man,” I said, heading toward the door but stopped. “But…could we keep this between us for right now? I’ll tell everyone else, just let me make sure it’s going to work first,” I said and Zack nodded.

“Enough dicking around…Go get ready for your date. I’ll meet you at the back entrance with car in an hour,” and with that I quickly vanished out the door.

Within forty minutes I was showered, shaved, and ready to go with a waiting town car. The only thing left to do was to pick up Jolie from my room. I quickly made my way down the hall, adjusting my button down shirt and belt before I punched in the code. When the door opened my mouth dropping at the sight in front of me.

“Wow…Jo…you look….stunning,” I stammered, my eyes running up and down her endless legs and beautifully tanned skin peaking out from under her navy blue dress. Damn this girl was drop dead gorgeous and hopefully she would be all mine.

“You don’t look too bad yourself,” Jo blushed as I took her hand and lead her down the hall towards the back door.

I had everything planned out perfectly. We would take the car ride to the boardwalk, walk and talk as the sunset, and then have a candle light dinner at restaurant at the end of the boardwalk. It would be perfect and nothing would stop me from telling her those three little word again. Now all I had to do was make sure no one saw us together, especially with the bounty Danny Pagano put out for any information or sightings of his daughters.

“So we are really leaving the compound?” Jo asked in surprise as we both climbed into the back of the town car. Zack winked at me before he shut the door and I pulled Jolie into my side.

“Yes ma’am. I promised you a real date and tonight you shall have one,” I said, kissing the top of her head. “I just hope it lives up to all the other dates you’ve been on.”

Jolie blushed and hid behind a curtain of her dark curly hair. Now what was that about? “What?” I asked, gently pulling her chin up.

“I-I’ve never been on a real date,” she whispered and my brows shot up in surprise, not believe my ears.

“No way, you’re pulling my leg,” I chuckled, pulling the most gorgeous creature I had ever seen into my side. “There is no way you haven’t been on a date before.”

Jolie nervously chewed her bottom lip and looked up at through her eyelashes. “It true…father never let us out of the house with boys…knowingly of course. I’ve been out with boys but I’ve never actually been able to go on date because of my father’s guard dogs.”

I carefully pulled Jo’s face to mine and pecked her lips. “Well tonight is all about you and me,” I said just as the car pulled up by the restaurant on the beach. “I want to prove to you how much you mean to me. I’m not going to let you go, Jo. I promise you that.”

Jolie nodded lightly with flushed cheeks as I took her hand. “Are you ready for some of the best food you will ever eat?” I asked, changing the subject.

I quickly got Jolie out of the car and Zack lead us into the nearly empty restaurant. The waiter directed us towards a very cozy corner booth that over looked the small band playing on the other side of the music. There floating candles in the middle of the table that illuminated our table in the dimmed atmosphere. To our left, you could see the sun setting over the ocean and it was honestly one of the romantic set ups I had ever seen. Oh, Jolie was going to love it!

“Wow,” she gasped, looking around at the beautiful restaurant and then out the window at the beach. She slowly slid into the booth, gapping at everything. If no one had ever taken me some place this fancy, romantic, or nice in my entire life then I was bound to win her over. I literally felt like the luckiest guy in the world to have her by my side right now.

“Do you like it?” I asked, nuzzling my nose against my ear as I spoke. I waited for her reactions, my heart beating a mile a minute. I really hoped she could see the effort I had put into all this and everything would go back to normal. I couldn’t lose her…

Oh god, what’s Matt trying to do now? I support him though, Pagano needs to be punished for treating his daughters like shit.
