Stuck with you

Back to life

Amy’s POV
After I had arrived home and settled into my small apartment, everything already felt like a distant memory, not like I just came home from this vacation, parting with my newlywed husband.
On the first day after, I didn’t plan to do much, but whenever I had a quiet moment, my thoughts returned to the paradise we just left, and to Brian’s even more than weird behavior before we parted our ways.

He must be happy that he got rid of me now, going back to his normal celebrity life while we would be divorced soon.
My phone was constantly ringing and whenever I checked in, it was an unknown number, was Sara right with her suspicion?

That couldn’t be?!
No one would give a damn about who I was or wasn’t… I looked at the ringing phone and willed it to be silent but it just wouldn’t listen to me.

Trying to block everything out I did my laundry, packed some things for starting my work and I showered, when I still didn’t know what else to do I decided to head to work nevertheless, a few hours of work wouldn’t hurt and I could distract myself, which was probably the best idea.

So instead of taking it easy like I planned I left my home, took my bag, phone and car keys and hoped that my car would start right away after being dismissed for more than two weeks now.
The engine sprang to life at the first try and I clapped at the steering wheel with joy, at least something in my life was working!

I drove over to the huge office building and sighed loudly, being back here was weird, wasn’t it?!
It felt more surreal then I had expected, but that’s what we both said we wanted, going back to our normal and old life. That was it… this building… meaning back to my normal life.

I parked in the parking lot for the employees and went into the 4th floor where James and I had our offices.
I was greeted by Jenny the head secretary in the lobby area and she smiled seeing me “Hey Amy, good that you are back, did you have a nice holiday?”

I smiled at her trying not to let all the emotion out while thinking about said holidays, “Yes, very nice. Thank you. Is James in?” I asked and she nodded “Yes, but has a customer meeting I think, at least I saw someone walking in an hour ago. You know that I don’t really track his cases and all…” She shrugged and I nodded “Don’t worry, I’ll have a look into it.”

I entered my office and realized I was still wearing my wedding ring, I quickly looked around and let the ring fall into my pants pocked before I flipped the lights on. I could see straight to James office and saw him and another man in suit sitting on his desk. James was talking and when his eyes turned in the direction of my offices, seeing the lights were on his eyes went wide and a smile was on his face. He motioned to the man in front of him that he needed a second and came through the door that connected our offices.

“AMY!” He closed the door quickly and then hugged me and then stepped back with an uncertain look.
“Sorry, I mean… I’m glad you are back. I didn’t think you would be coming back in before Monday?!” He said with a huge smile was on his face, he seemed relieved.

“I thought I could catch up on some work, and help you organize something, it will come back to me on Monday anyway” I smiled and he nodded agreeing to it sheepishly.
“My meeting will take some more time, I will also have a late lunch with him, do you want to join us?” He asked and I shook my head in denial.

“No, thank you. I just planned to do some organizing having a look in the calendar and then start back on Monday with the main work” I didn’t want to overdo it, just wanted some distraction.
“Oh right, sorry. Don’t worry. Just see how long you can stay… or want to and Monday morning we can sit together concerning the case I told you about.” James said and made a few steps back towards his office door.
“Sounds good to me.” I sat back on my chair starting my laptop while James nodded and went back to his customer.

It took me some time to organize all the appointments that James had managed to get during my absence. When my stomach growled I realized that James and his customer were already gone and it was already pretty late.

I didn’t even plan to work this long, but somehow I lost the track of time. So I finished up and closed my office. I left James a small note that I would be back tomorrow for some last things that I planned to finish up and if he needed something he should let me know.

When I arrived at home I saw more messages on my phone from different unknown numbers as it seemed and I was really wondering how all this fit together.
But instead of following that up I decided to quickly call my parents and let them know that I was safely home.

While talking to my mom, I fished the ring out of my pants and slipped it back on. I was afraid I would lose it and knowing Brian as I had to come to know him during these last two weeks, that ring had cost a lot of money, so I better keep it on so I wouldn’t lose it.

Yeah, right Amy… Lie to yourself… You like the feeling of it and it’s the last official reminder you possess from Brian… maybe that’s why you want to keep it close… think about that?!

I sighed loudly when my phone began to ring again, this time it was a very known number and I immediately picked up.
Hearing Sara’s voice felt good, someone familiar and something known during all this chaos that was going on around me was really what I needed right now!

We agreed that she would be coming over tonight and we could order food and forget about everything that happened, just us two like the old times maybe that would help me and make me sleep better tonight.

When Sara arrived I smiled at her and she tried the same fake smile with me. “How are you Ames?” She asked while plopping down on my couch.
“Have been better, but have been worse… How about you?” I asked and Sara stared at my ceiling a faraway look on her face and I knew exactly where she was with her thoughts.

“I knew this was going to happen, and we were completely fine with it… So why do I miss him?” Sara said finally honestly and I poured us some wine, while we ordered our food online.

“I don’t know, but if it helps you… I feel the same, and it’s even more stupid, because I know for sure that for Brian everything is done and better this way… I mean… you were the one telling me he didn’t see more in it… and I? I couldn’t keep the feelings out this…” I closed my eyes in frustration but all I could see was Brian’s perfect face and that playful smirk he was wearing way too often, which made my stomach flutter only thinking about it.

Sara and I exchanged some more stories and tried to cheer each other up in which we didn’t really succeed but we tried our best anyway.
When the dinner arrived and first bottle of wine was long empty we both held our glasses up in salute.

“You know what?” Sara slurred slightly.
“Wh-at?” I slurred right back, a hiccup interrupting my word in the middle, making both of us giggle loudly.

“We are strong and independent women, we don’t need any men to fool us and turn our feelings to mush! We will not talk about them anymore, we will not let them fool us anymore! We will admire the sexy Chris Hemsworth now and everything else is forgotten for now!” Sara finished and I nodded, that sounded like a perfect idea to me.

“Hear hear” I repeated clicking my glass to hers and we both took a big gulp. We watched the Tv in silent admiration of the actor in that movie when Sara’s phone began to ring.
She sighed “How dare someone interrupt us? I swear if that is another unknown number call I’m gonna flip-” Sara stopped midsentence making me and my lazy brain wonder who would shut her up like this.

“Why are unknown numbers calling you, too? I thought those weird things were only happening to me?” I asked trying to look on her display.
My heart stopped for a second seeing the name and photo that was showing up on her screen identifying the caller ID.

“What the hell…” Sara said quietly before the phone went silent “I’m not picking up. I mean… we just said we will forget about them, why is he calling now… must be a mistake…” She whispered and I lifted my eyebrow at her, maybe Matt was indeed more into the whole thing than they both let on?

“Call him back if you want to…” I said feeling down, because Brian didn’t even try once to contact me, I knew that he wouldn’t and we both wanted it this way but… Oh god, Amy… You know better than this!

“I’m not… Are you crazy! Probably just a mistake, let’s forget about it.” She shrugged and let the phone fall back into her bag.
“And why are unknown numbers calling you?” I asked again and Sara looked really frustrated, “Believe it or not… I did something stupid while being drunk… and now also have to pay for the consequences.”

“Can’t be as dumb as getting married to someone who doesn’t want you” I added silently not knowing if Sara heard me or not.
“Well… I made this picture of Matt and me… barely dressed and sent it to Marc” Sara’s cheeks flushed lightly and my mouth hung open.

“Marc-Marc? That Marc? Douchbag Marc?” I asked and she nodded a small smirk on her face.
“Oh my god! That is fucking hilarious” I couldn’t stop the laugh from escaping my mouth!

“Well.. not when Douchbag Marc is now calling me non-stop. I blocked his number, but I guess he tried again afterwards from another phone… So… that would explain the unknown number calls, and can we now get back to the half- naked Chris on your TV Screen, I like that topic way better than, my ex or the vacation fling!”

Matt’s POV
That talk wasn’t anything I expected. I honestly didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t this. What was Larry thinking, that Brian could just call Amy and … then what?!

I mean was it weird that I did hope that Brian would have to meet Amy again, that way I could ask her about Sara, or maybe even Sara would have to come along? I could see her again, only with that thought in mind I willed Amy to pick up the phone when Brian called her from Larry’s office.

Sadly, no one picked up. He tried again… and nothing. Larry was in deep thoughts I could see it on his face, he was concerned about the bands image or to be more exact about Brian’s image, which always had a slight worse touch then the one’s from the rest of us but he was also concerned about Amy.

Which gave me something to think about, we thought this would all go as a silent divorce without much drama but as it seemed the world wide web, the press, the fans and everything surrounding us was faster than we could have imagined.

Amy was chased at the airport, and not only Amy but Sara as well, on the camera’s we saw how Sara had pulled her friend into a cab and my heart had nearly galloped out of my chest seeing them like that. I always felt protective of my friends and family and even after we all agreed that after this two weeks everything was done, Amy was still family, being married to Brian… And Sara… Somehow I wished she would still be part of this as well.

“Larry is right, we need to do something. I mean, we are used to all this… Amy and Sara are not. We need to shield them.” I said and Brian’s head snapped to me as if I slapped him.
“What? What didn’t you understand when I told you she doesn’t want anything to do with me anymore. The fucking divorce papers will probably be already on their way here!” Brian’s outburst made also Larry turn to him with lifted eyebrows.

“You think so? And we don’t reach her on the phone. Then that will only give you one last opportunity” My heart stopped for a second when Larry said that, because I could guess what that would mean.
“And what would that be?” Brian asked as if he didn’t know, but maybe he really didn’t, he seemed completely clueless to me right now.

“You will book a freaking plane ticket, drive to her house, speak to her, apologize and bring her here, to whatever freaking costs, Haner! You fucked up, big time… even bigger than any time before. We now need to do some damage control and for that, we need you to show off your wife, play the loving husband until the storm of press and fan riot has subsided.” He nodded to himself and Brian’s face turned white, I was afraid he was about to blackout any second, but that didn’t hinder Larry to continue.

“You will show yourself with her, you will live with her and you will do everything to shield her and upgrade your image. I don’t know what you two have thought what would happen when you went on this trip, but I believe there was probably your dick doing more thinking then your head and now you have to face the fucking consequences.” Larry finished off and with that he motioned us out of the office.

“Saturday Morning I want you and your wife in my office and don’t you dare show up without her” Larry opened the door and I dragged Brian to his feet, I had no idea how we were supposed to get Amy here the day after tomorrow, but the way Larry was staring us down, we better find a solution soon.

When we sat back in the car Brian didn’t say a word, just stared ahead of him and I sighed. “You wanna try calling her again?” I asked and he shook his head.
“Wouldn’t help, she won’t pick up.” He said quietly and I frowned, they were so happy during this holidays, what the hell had gone wrong so badly on the last day?!
Especially after Sara told me that Amy was falling for him… something had gone pretty damn wrong.

In the evening on the same day, we still didn’t come up with a master plan… we had no idea how to convince Amy to come to Huntington, because we had no idea how to reach her.
So I decided on calling Sara, maybe she was willing to help us, and which would also work to my benefit cause I really wanted to talk to her again.

But instead of hearing her voice, there was only the voicemail picking up. I left a quick message and told her to call me back and that it was important, but I didn’t know if she would really listen to it.
Which now left us only one final solution…

I opened Brian’s laptop and searched in his documents for Amy’s address, he had told me before that he wrote everything necessary down for the divorce documents.
I clicked some more until Brian appeared beside me “What the hell are you doing there?” He asked when he saw me booking two plane tickets.

“What does it look like for you?” I asked and he frowned even more “Oh no… no no no! Sanders, no! You ain’t booking flight tickets to Phoenix. I am not going to her… I am not! No freaking way!” He shook his head vehemently, but he should know better… We didn’t have any choice, he heard Larry and he wouldn’t accept a no.

“You don’t have any other choice. And I’m coming along, we will convince her to come with you. It would be just a limited time. Maybe you could talk to her boss, explain everything.” Brian stopped the motion and looked at me for a moment, like he came to think about my suggestion, but then shook his head again.

“She won’t be coming. This would be a trip for nothing, man. We ended this, now I cant show up on her door telling her, everything was wrong and we gotta play the happy couple. That’s just not happening!” Brian said and I sighed again.

“What about ‘You don’t have any other choice’ don’t you understand?” I asked in return and Brian closed his eyes frustration written all over his features.

“Fuck! God damn! I don’t wanna see her disappointed and dismissal face when I show up there! Okay? She ended it, we ended it… I just-” Brian sounded defeated and I did understand him, and wanted to help him, that was why I would do the whole trip together with him, added as the cherry on top was that I would try to meet with Sara, while we were already there, but that wouldn’t be in the main focus of course.

“We will manage, Haner. Don’t worry. I believe we can convince her, just put your charm back on and she won’t be able to say no to you.” I joked but Brian let his head hang down, he didn’t seem too convinced.

“The flights are booked and we will arrive there tomorrow morning around 9, so better get some good sleep and think about your approach, there is no turning back now, my man.” I clapped his back and couldn’t hide the small smile that was spreading over my face.

I guess I'm a little late for my comment now seeing that this story was over about four months ago. Couldn't read it back then cause I was busy with university and graduation. But finally I'm back, so I thought I'd catch up a little bit!

I really liked the plot, the beginning reminded me a little of the movie 'The Hangover'. That chemistry between both the couples was uh-mazing! And I especially loved how Brian started to realize that he had feelings for Amy. As for Mattyboy and Sara, they were my favorites :)

Good job, girls!
