Haunting My Heart

Meet the friends

“Goodmorning sweetie, have you been up for long?” Matt looked over his cup of coffee and looked at his mom as she came in the kitchen, her arms full of groceries.
“Hmm” He hummed, not confirming, not denying her question. He had been up for most of the night, the girl had haunted his dreams, time after time. He dreamed about her, woke up, heard her voice, fell asleep again and then the whole thing started all over. He was exhausted.

Matt’s mom was putting away the stuff she bought and looked at her son. She noticed him looking pale, his hands fidgeting with the cup in front of him. She had seen her son like this for the past two weeks and it only gotten worse. She was worried about something being wrong with him.
“Matt, look at me” She walked up to him and gently put her hand on his cheek “You would tell me if something was wrong, right? I will always try to help you” She received a nod from her son and she kissed his forehead before continuing the task at hand.

After a few moments of silence Matt spoke up, getting his mom’s attention “Mom, do you know any history on the house?”
The woman thought for a second and then shook her head “No, not really, it was already empty when we came to first look at it. The house was in impeccable state and the price was good”
Matt huffed quietly, receiving an odd look from his mother
“Why do you want to know? What is going on, Matt?” His mother looked at him with curious eyes, wondering what her son had going on now. Matt first shrugged, but then started talking anyways.

“The house is so old, it has to have some kind of history” he let his voice trail. His mother looked at him with raised brows, she knew her son, he was never much interested in history, there had to be something more going on. She motioned her son to continue.
“I… I’ve been having dreams about this girl since the first night we moved in here. It’s always the same, she is in our yard…At the back, at the pond” He looked up to his mom, receiving a nod from her, showing she knew which place in the garden he was talking about “She… she tries to speak, but the words won’t come out. Only bit and pieces. Then when I almost reach her, she disappears”

“Oh hun, isn’t she just a girl from your school? One that you like?” She smiled at him, grabbing his hand over the counter “You probably just dream about her here in the yard because those are the two things keeping you busy” She gave his hand a little squeeze and laughed at him encouragingly. She knew that if her son had his eye on a girl his mind would be filled with her. He was known at their house as the one that was immediately in seventh heaven once he found a new girl he like. She was sure that was the case now.
“No mom, you don’t understand, it’s not only the dreams. I hear her whisper my name when I’m in the house. She asks me to help her. And when I first dreamed about the pond, I didn’t even know it really existed. She is not going to our school, I never even seen her before. I see her in mirrors and windows, she is always there, I’m barely sleeping!” He was almost yelling in frustration in the end, startling his mother.

“Sweetie, you need to relax. This is not real, that girl is not real, it’s just the new house, all the changes, I know it’s not easy for you”
Matt felt anger boil up inside of him, it was not fair, she didn’t believe him, fine, but there was no need to treat him like a child. He was seventeen, he could drive, he could drink, or well.. he did. He was no kid anymore.
“I’m already used to the house! She is not an illusion mom, she is real! I just…. ” Matt seemed to think of something, the last straw to grab on to make all of this go away “… Maybe if I move to my own room above the garage it will stop. Maybe the room has some bad mojo or something?” He was convinced that would be the solution. He was also convinced his mom would see it the same way. That was why he was stunned when his mom told him ‘no’”
“Don’t take me for a fool, Matt. I don’t like being lied to” Her voice was irritated now “You are just making excuses to get out of the house. I told you we would fix your place as soon as possible, but you need to be patient. Now, why don’t you lay down for a bit, get some rest and I will call you when lunch is done”

Matt made his way over to his room, letting himself fall down, face first. He growled in anger. It was like he had been caught up in on giant nightmare. He was so done.
“Matt, help me” The voice again, of course the voice again, maybe he was going crazy. He got up, not able to contain his anger anymore and started pacing the room, screaming at the void.
“SHUT UP! Or fucking tell me what to do!”
He walked past his desk and his backpack fell off. He picked it up and suddenly found the solution. He would find out what’s going on, he would get to the bottom of it, he would finally be able to get some sleep again.
He grabbed his bag, put his notebook, and pen case in and headed out, racing down the stairs.
“I’m heading to the library, I have homework! I’ll be home for dinner!” He called to his mom and rushed out of the house, driving his car to the library.

Once he got there, he asked the librarian to help him collect all the information available on the house, the street and the neighborhood. The woman looked at him curiously
“You will need a lot more writing paper than those few sheets you have there, boy” she pointed at his notebook that had only a few sheets left.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, a lot has happened there, the karma on the house has never been very good. Lots of family drama’s. But to be honest, I never go why they build a house on grounds like that. It was an accident waiting to happen” The old woman smiled at him carefully, knowing she might have given the boy more information than he had bargained for. She decided to help him, if he wanted to have information, he would get all the information she could find for him.
“Why don’t you get yourself settled in at the microfiche machine in the back, I will bring you everything you need in a minute”

Matt was seeing stars of all the reading he had done. He had been here for hours now, reading article after article about the house. The woman had been right, the people living in the house never stood a chance. The place was build on ancient burial ground, there had been a lot of protests when they wanted to build the house in the 1800’s, but after some archeological research on the place, it was cleared to be build on.
The wealthy man that build the house, killed himself before he even had the chance to build the family he wanted so dearly. After that first tragic death so much more had happened in the house, a man killed his wife and afterwards killed himself, a woman killing her two kids after she poisoned her husband, walking off a cliff herself, and the unexplained deaths of a boy and later in time also a girl that were about his age.

Chills were going up his spine. He wasn’t sure he wanted to live in that house anymore, of one thing he was sure. Everyone could tell him all they wanted. The girl was real and he would find out who she was exactly. He knew he couldn’t be the dead girl, that death had been early 1900’s and the girl from his dreams was wearing jeans and a top that was way to modern to be that old. It had to be more recent. He rubbed his eyes and grabbed the next of the to do pile next to him. It was actually not a pile anymore, it was only the one that was left.

His heart skipped a beat as soon as he looked at the machine. No, that couldn’t be. The girl from his dreams was staring back at him from the front page of the paper

17 year old Meike Heron disappeared from home

Yesterday evening the parents of 17 year old Meike Heron reported their daughter missing. She was last seen at her favorite place around the house, the pond in the back of the Heron’s yard. No trace of her was found by the police and everyone is looking in to the mystery to find a sign of the girl as soon as possible.

In disappearances the first 48 hours are critical. Meike’s parents are asking everyone to call the police if they have any clues

Matt let go of a breath he didn´t even realize he was holding, after he finished reading the article. He quickly went through the other articles in the case of her disappearance. Meike. So that was her name. He quickly shot Jimmy a text, telling him to come over to the library. He needed to tell someone. Like right now.
The other articles didn´t tell him much more, she was never found and her parents decided to leave the house behind and move upstate. They never used the words, but Matt could read between the lines. They thought she was dead.

It wasn’t long before Jimmy ran into the library, receiving a warning from the librarian. He sat in the chair next to Matt’s.
“Look! This is the girl!” Matt pointed at the screen, his friend following his motion “That’s the girl that is in my dreams, that is the girl I keep seeing around”
“She is pretty” Jimmy looked at the screen with a dreamy look in his eyes.
“Not the point Jimmy! Attention on the right thing, please” Matt forced his friend to get his head in the game by telling him everything he found out.
“Holy shit” Jimmy whispered, a little too loud “That is one fucked up place. Do you think what I think? She must be in between worlds and she can’t move on without you doing something for her”

“She is not dead” a voice behind them made them turn around. Behind them were the two girls that Matt had seen at the house
“What the…” he started, but was cut off by the redhead.
“Why are you finding information on Meike? What do you know? You are obligated to share any clues you have on the disappearing you know” she crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes at us. The blonde quickly followed in posture and stared them down.
Jimmy chuckled lightly and looked from one girl to the other with an amused look on his face.
“What is it to you beautiful ladies?”
“Don’t you go all complimenting on us, we are not those kind of girls” The blonde spoke up now, same attitude as the other one “You first!”

Matt motioned to some chairs, telling them to sit down. If he was going to do this, they better take a seat.
“I just moved in the house and I…. well… let’s say I’m feeling the remains of everything that has happened there”
“What do you mean you are feeling the remains?”
“I… Uh…” He wasn’t sure if he should tell them and Jimmy managed to make it even weirder
“Go tell them, Matt, she is their friend apparently, they need to know that she found a new lover”
“JIMMY!” Matt growled, embarrassment falling over him. The two girls looked at him with wide eyes.
“I.. might have seen her in my dreams, I think she talks to me” He looked down at his hands, not able to look the girls in the eyes.

“SEE! I told you so!” The redhead looked at the blonde “She is still here, Kim, I told you she wouldn’t leave without goodbye, something is wrong with that house, she must still be there, one way or another. It’s all Supernatural!” The blonde was looking skeptical, not sharing in the happiness her friend was displaying.
“Tammy, please, you know that’s not even possible. What do you want to do now? Call the Winchester Brothers?” The girls giggled for a second, but then turning serious again. Continuing the conversation as if the boys weren’t even there.
“Please, give it a chance, it’s the only way she could come back to us. I don’t want to think of the alternative” the girl named Tammy pleaded with her friend who gave a slight nod and they hugged again.

Matt and Jimmy shared a look and then scraped their throats, getting the attention of the girls again. “Care to tell us what you two are talking about?” Matt asked impatiently.
“I believe you” the redhead said
“I don’t” the blonde added, earning herself a glare from her friend and a chuckle from Jimmy.
“But I think we need to thrust you” the first pressed, looking at her friend. Apparently she got permission, because she started talking. Telling the guys everything they knew. Their theories, their assumptions, everything. When they finished it was already close to dinner time and Matt had to leave for home. They all exchanged numbers promising to get in touch soon.

The guys said goodbye to Tammy and Kim and then to each other, before Matt headed home again. He opened the front door, throwing his backpack in the corner, calling out to his mom that he was home.
He heard his mom rummaging upstairs and knew she would be coming down the stairs the next minute, so he looked up. However, it was not his mom that was standing before him. It was the girl of his dreams, no hitches this time, full on her, like she was actually standing in his hallway.

“Hi” she let out shyly. Matt was lost for words and could only stare at her. She was so real, she was so there.
His mom came down the stairs, not even paying attention to the girl standing in the hallway, she only looked at him curiously.
“You’ve been away long, what did you do?” She walked right past the girl to the kitchen, acting like she didn’t even see her.

“MOM! Don’t you see her! She is right there!”

Notes

Uhhhh the plot thickens! What do you think will happen now?
Will Matt be able to communicate with her? What will her friends do?
What will his friends do?

Sooo many questions ;-)
