My Little Piece of Heaven
Ch. 7
*~*Chloe’s POV*~*
Grabbing my keys from the table by the door and slipping on my jacket I turned around to Jayden and Zacky who were comfortably sitting on the couch looking for something to watch on TV.
“Zack, my number is on the fridge and there are plenty of snacks in the kitchen so just help yourself. If you need anything just call me. Hopefully this won’t take long… Jayden give mommy a kiss.” I said as I walked back over to them, Jayden kissing me and wrapping his arms around my neck.
“Love you mommy. Tell Uncle Jake I say Hi.” He said as he nestled back into his position on Zacky’s lap.
“I will. I love you too sweetie.” I said walking back towards the door and slipping on my shoes, “Zee, if I’m not back in time, please give him some more of the medicine in an hour.”
“Sure thing Chlo. Don’t worry, we’ll be fine. Won’t we Jay?” Zacky said as he brushed Jayden’s hair from his face.
“Yeah, we’ll be fine mommy. Come back soon.”
“As fast as I can.” I said as I opened the door taking one last look at my son and his father, “Thank you Zee.”
“No worries Chlo.” He replied as I closed the door and headed to my car.
*~*Zacky’s POV*~*
After Chloe left Jayden turned to look at me, “Zacky? Can we watch a movie?”
“Sure, what do you want to watch?” I asked as he tossed his blanket off and went over to the bookcase to look for a movie.
“This one.” He said bringing back Shrek.
“Alright, do you want to make a pillow fort to watch the movie in?” I asked him with a smile.
“A pillow fort?”
“Don’t tell me that mommy never made a pillow fort with you?” I questioned before taking another drink of my beer.
“No… can we make one?” he asked excitedly.
“Well we have to now… since mommy never showed you how.” I answered as I got up and put the movie in, “I’ll be right back. I’ll go get some blankets and pillows so we can make the fort.”
“Okay. What should I do?” he said.
“Just wait right here. I’ll be fast.” I said running up the stairs and opening the doors until I found a closet with blankets and pillows.
I brought all of the stuff downstairs and set it on the overstuffed chair before cleaning up all of the books and putting them back on the shelf for Chloe. I pulled the back cushions off the couch and laid them down on the floor in front of the couch, Jayden jumping onto them before he started coughing.
I picked him up and pat his back as I held him in my arms, “Maybe no jumping okay Jay? Not until you feel better.”
“Okay Zacky… now what do we do?” he asked after his little coughing stopped.
“We build the top.” I told him as I put him down and grabbed the blankets and more pillows making a canopy over the cushions on the floor.
“Wow… this is cool.” Jayden said with excitement as I laid the final blanket over the top.
“Isn’t it? Now go ahead and climb in…” I said as he crawled inside and laid down just as the actual movie was starting.
“Zacky? You’re coming inside too right?” he poked his head out looking up at me with his matching green eyes.
“Of course I am.” I replied as I finished off my beer and crawled in and lay down beside him, letting him curl up to my side with Ralphie in a headlock. “You still cold Jayden?”
“Yes.” He answered and I grabbed his little blanket and put it over him, tucking him in as he stuck his thumb in his mouth.
He leaned on my chest and I wrapped my arm around him, occasionally putting my hand on his forehead to feel if he had a fever. He had cooled down a little bit since Chloe had left, but he was still warm so after an hour, I got up and found the medicine for him.
“Here Jayden, take a little bit more medicine. Do you want something to drink?” I asked him as I poured the medicine in the cup, handing it to him in the pillow fort.
“Can I have more juice please?” his bright eyes peeking out at me, shining in the living room light as he handed me the empty medicine cup.
“Sure. I’ll be right back.” I said going into the kitchen and filling his sippy cup.
I came back and crawled inside the fort with him, handing him the cup and lying down again. His laughed at a scene in the movie and I couldn’t help but smile at him.
This is my son. I helped make this. I have to do whatever it takes to let Chloe know I want to be a part of his life. To be a part of her life too…
“Zacky?” Jayden snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah Jay?”
“Is mommy coming home soon?” he asked.
I looked at my watch before answering, “Yeah, she should be home soon. Why don’t you come and lay down?”
He set his sippy cup on the floor and crawled up close to me again, resting his head on my chest and sucking on his thumb again. I wrapped my arm around his little body again and softly brushed his hair out of his face as we watched the movie. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket and grabbed it out with my free hand to see an unknown number.
“Hello?”
“Zacky?”
“Chlo?”
“Is everything okay? I’m sorry this is taking so long… Jake is being difficult.”
“Everything is fine. We’re just lying here watching a movie.”
“Is Jayden sleeping?”
“Not yet.”
“Is that mommy?”
“Yes it is. You wanna talk to her?”
“Yes please.” He said as I handed him the phone, “Hi mommy. Are you coming home soon?”
“Yes honey. Are you okay?”
“Yes. Me and Zacky are watching Shrek.”
“Okay, you be good. Can you put Zacky on the phone again please?”
“Mommy wants to talk to you again.” Jayden said handing the phone back.
“Hey.”
“Hey. It shouldn’t be much longer. Jayden will probably fall asleep before the movie is over. I’m so sorry about this…”
“Don’t be. It’s my job and I’ve been off the schedule for too long. Just take care of Jake and I’ll take care of Jayden until you come home. Don’t worry about it.”
“Thank you Zee. I’ll be home as soon as I can.”
“Just be careful. Alright?”
“Alright. See you boys soon.” She said before hanging up the phone.
I slipped the phone back in my pocket and put my arm up behind my head. Jayden turned and looked up at me staring into my eyes.
“You have green eyes too.” He said.
“Yup I sure do.” I replied as he lied back down, snuggling into my side again.
We continued watching the movie, laughing together at some of the funnier parts. His little laughter made me feel that warm tingly feeling they talk about in movies. I felt his breathing slowly start to change and I looked down to find him fast asleep on my chest, Ralphie still in his arm, and his thumb still in his mouth. I smiled and brushed his black hair from his face, kissing his forehead gently.
“Sleep well my son.”

oh man that was rough.
makes sense that Jake pays for part or most of the house. and i get that he doesnt want her to get hurt, but at the same time, its not really fair the way he is acting. like, he didnt abandon them for 3 years, he didnt even know. so there is nothing really to be mad at. i mean zacky is beyond out of line playing wingman with chloe there or not, but jake cant like dictate what she should do. so many conflicting emotions from everyone, but thats what makes stories good! i really hope he doesnt actually move out tho. that would be confusing and sad for jayden.
