Banned in a book

Sam’s POV

I looked at Brian’s sleeping form when we were back in our hotel room. It had been a weird evening or rather night.
Everything had been going more then good, we had fun, were having drinks and Brian really remembered something.
He could remember an actual scene from his past and it had been amazing, seeing the realization on his face, he looked so happy so relaxed that finally something new was coming to him.

And then from one second to the other, he suddenly sank down on the bar next to Jimmy, he was clearly in pain but I didn’t know why…
I hadn’t really seen what happened so I was more then concerned seeing him in pain like that, but it was over as quick as it came and Brian couldn’t describe what happened, or he didn’t want to.
I wasn’t too sure on both parts.

When it was way past midnight we slowly broke up our nightly adventure and went back to our hotel, Brian still looked pretty happy and was actually a little drunk.
I went to the bathroom and got ready for sleep, brushing my teeth and putting my pj on. When I came back to the bedroom Brian was already in bed, snoring softly, still wearing his clothes and I helped him get at least rid of his shoes and pants.

I pulled the blanket over him and sighed, it was good for him, this must have been a good first day, even thought the pain attack made me a little nervous.
He never had something like that before, so what was that?!

I turned onto my side and slowly closed my eyes and hoped that I could finally stop the thinking and could catch some sleep at least.

“I know that you don’t know who I am, but that is okay… just listen to what I have to say.” A female voice said in my head but there was no body, no image to it… nothing, only blackness.

Weird, I often dreamed, but when I dreamed there were pictures to it. I never just had one scene or only heard a voice in my head.

“Sam? You are Sam, right?” The voice asked and I frowned, who was that and why was she knowing my name?

“Yes, that’s me… and you are?” I asked and felt really uncomfortable to talk into the darkness in my head, this was actually scarer then probably having a body to talk to.

“Don’t be afraid, Sam. I just want to talk to you, is that okay?” The voice asked and well, I didn’t have much of a choice, did I?

“No, you don’t.” The voice chuckled and I was about to fucking freak out, did she just read my thoughts?
What the hell was going on here?

“Wh-what do you want to talk about?” I finally asked and knowing no way out of it, maybe if I pinched myself, but since I didn’t see anything, how could I pinch me, somehow it felt like just my brain was around and the rest of my body was absent as well… all in blackness.

“I want to talk about your feelings Sam… and about a certain someone that came into your life.” The voice said and I frowned, I knew she was talking about Brian, but that wasn’t any of her business, I mean… whoever she was.

“I see you are still skeptical, are you not? Let me tell you something, my dear. I am the reason Brian is in the book…” She said and I couldn’t believe what I just heard!
“YOU!? WHY?!” I yelled and wanted to do something, strangle her, or grab her or punch her or do everything at once, but I couldn’t.

“Let’s just say I had my reasons… but I can see how Brian has changed, during the time he spend in the book and finally with you. He remembers and he is open to his friends, what really is incredible is that his friends begin to remember him, that wasn’t supposed to happen. It wasn’t supposed to happen that he would remember anything at all, so this is really a situation I didn’t expect… But Sam… you, my dear can be the key to setting him free.”

“What?” I asked dumbfounded “I am the key?” I repeated and she chuckled again “Listen closely, Sammy. You CAN be the key. But I don’t really know if this is the right way… Did Brian learn enough, I just can’t decide yet… I want you to know something. He got a task from me and I know he wants to succeed, he wants to get out of this situation and would do anything and everything for it. I am really keen on knowing how he will execute it and what you will think of it…”

What the hell was she talking about now?

“Can we get back to me being a key…?” I asked I wanted to help Brian so bad, I couldn’t even describe it. “I know Sam, I know and that’s why you are the key. You can help him, but I don’t know if it’s the way you or he expects. The key to freedom is not always the key to a happy end, my dear…
I will visit you again, and then we will discuss this further… The time is running out… 4 Days… I will let you sleep now and think about the little hints I gave you… but keep in mind, be careful around Brian… he is banned to the book for a reason.”

The voice was gone and left me alone in the dark.

Brian’s POV

I woke up with a jolt, was someone in our room, I heard a voice but when I turned around I saw that Sam was trashing and turning again, her eyes moving quickly behind her eyelids and her voice was softly heard.

“Darkness… so dark… what should I do?” Sam murmured and I softly touched her shoulder and she sucked in a heavy breath.

“Ssshhhh… “ She sat up and nearly bumped into me with her head “Sam, it’s me… you just had a bad dream… it’s okay.” I soothed her and she looked at me, her eyes were unfocused and she needed a moment, her hand then rubbed over her eyes hiding them.

“I can’t… a dream?” She whispered and I nodded “Just a dream… are you okay? It’s still dark outside… we still have some time to sleep.” I pulled her into my side and she nodded.
“I guess so… I can’t really remember what this was about… it was weird… and black…” She said and buried her face in my neck, her warm breath ran over me and I suppressed a shiver.

“You don’t remember more then darkness?” I asked and rubbed a hand down her back.
“No well.. no.. not really” I couldn’t make out Sam’s features so I didn’t know if she was lying or telling the truth.

“Are you excited about tomorrow?” Sam asked and changed the topic, I chuckled, really she wanted to do small talk now?
“Well.. since I don’t really know what we will be doing in the morning, I am excited, but so should you, since you will be coming along.” I said and Sam lifted her head up looking into my face and I could only see some outlines in the darkness.

“I thought the guys wanted to take you alone…” Sam frowned and then her mouth opened and we both answered “But you/ I can’t leave my/your side” I grinned and she nodded.

“I haven’t thought about that” Sam admitted and I kissed her temple “I didn’t either, it felt kinda natural to tell Jimmy I would be going with him, I don’t know why, but I could bet he was the closest friend to me.” I said musing and Sam nodded.

“I would bet that too.” Sam said “And now I think we both should get some more sleep, maybe Jimmy will have some adventures planned for us?” Sam grinned and I had to imagine what Jimmy could have planned, I mean… he said something about him managing it… whatever that meant… and afterwards I had the date thing planned, I just hoped Jimmy could set everything up and I would pull everything of as I planned.

Because if not, the time was slipping through my hands and I didn’t know if I could really try again, tomorrow I had to make it right, had to tell her what I felt and hope that she would reply, if not… my chances of freedom were gone…
