Death and All His Friends

Brian hugged me close and put a hand on my stomach.
"thank you," Brian cried, tears forming in his eyes, "for savoring a piece of my brother."
The Haners and I spent the rest of the night talking and planning. I had a doctor's appointment early tomorrow, so I showered and headed to bed. The next morning I felt stirring in my stomach, so I grabbed my phone. I pulled up my shirt and saw the slight movement in my abdomen. I started recording it and stopped it when it finished.
I pulled into the doctor's office at 9 am and got prepped for my ultrasound.
"Is your husband at work?" Dr. Jenkins asked.
"um no, he passed away three months ago."
"I'm sorry, dear,"
I just nodded and laid back on the chair. She rubbed the cold gel all over my bump and started to use the probe on it. I relaxed into the feeling. Soon, a thumping sound echoed in my ears and I smiled and tears rolled down my cheeks, seeing the last reminant of my husband on the screen.
"She's a very tall, healthy baby with a strong heartbeat mommy,"
"She?" I asked.
"Yes, you're having a baby girl, Mrs. Sullivan."
Wiping the tears away, I listened to her instructions about eating, my health, and some suggestions for good prenatal vitamins. The doctor have me twelve copies of the ultrasound, one for me, one for the rest of the guys and their parents, one for Jimmy's parents, and two separate ones for his sisters.
I headed towards Jimmy's childhood home and knocked on the door. Barbara opened the door eagerly, pulling me into her embrace.
"I have a surprise," I laughed, kissing her cheek.
"Really now?" Joe asked, laughing.
"Yep," I handed them an envelope with the ultrasound.
Tears flooded Barbara's eyes and she hugged me close, "is it Jimmy's,"
I nodded and felt the tears collect in my own eyes, Joe joining in our hug.
"It's a girl, Jamie Olivia Sullivan,"
"I love that name,"
"Jimmy always told me he wanted a child named after him, so I tried to get it as close as I could,"
"we love you, darling. Please don't stay away during this,"
"I won't, I love you guys,"
"We love you and Jamie as well!"
I gave them a copy to give Katie and Kelly. Now on to see the guys after Bri broke the news...
