Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Sixty-Seven

“Hey Jessi,” Emma called to me. I looked up from my computer and gave her my attention, since I knew it’d probably be about hanging out with our friends. “Jimmy’s throwing a fall party or something and wants us to come.”
“Am I going to have to dress up?” I asked in a bored tone. I did want to go hang with the others, but I wasn’t in the mood to get dressed if it was like a Halloween party. I knew how Jimmy got with parties, and I would just be a party pooper if I had to dress up.
“Nah. It’s just all of us chilling in his back yard and eating his food.” Emma replied. I shot up and stared at her anxiously.
“Will he be making steak?” I questioned excitedly. Emma snickered and nodded and I nearly fell off the couch. “I’m in.”
“I knew you would be.” Emma mused as she closed her laptop. We both went into our room and began picking out clothes to wear for today. She decided to jump into the shower, but my hair was still clean enough to just throw into pigtails. I put on some light make up and changed into my clothes before going back into the living room and relaxing while I waited for Emma. I texted Zach as I waited, since I hadn’t hung out with him recently. We talked about making plans for the future, but we never made a set date.
“Emma, you almost ready?” I yelled as I pulled on my worn out toms. I wasn’t a huge fan of toms, but they were better than flip flops so I gave in and bought a pair.
“I don’t know what to do with my hair.” Emma complained as she came out with a towel in her hand. Her hair was still dripping and it was parting oddly. I shrugged and chewed on my lip.
“Blow dry and curl.” I suggested. She gave me a look and I shrugged again. “It’s probably going to be humid so if you straighten it your hair will just puff up again.”
“Good point. I’ll be out in ten minutes.” Emma stated. I waved to her and patiently waited the ten minutes for her to get her hair done. Once she finished curling her dark brown hair she put on light make up before telling Johnny we were on our way. She followed after me as I went down the stairs of our apartment and to my car. I started it up and headed off in the direction of Jimmy’s place.
“So is it going to be just the guys and us?” I wondered as I turned onto the road that led to everyone’s houses. The roads to get to everyone’s houses were becoming second nature to me; I didn’t even have to double-check the road names to know I was going the right way. I never thought I’d be so used to driving to a house owned by a member of Avenged Sevenfold.
“Most likely.” Emma shrugged. I nodded and it went silent for a second before I saw a smirk cross Emma’s face. “I saw Brian at Wal-Mart yesterday.”
“You did?” I laughed, looking over at her. She nodded and chuckled at the memory. “What was he there for?”
“He had like four cases of beer and a bunch of chips,” Emma explained.
“Oh, so he was grocery shopping for Johnny?” I snickered. She punched my shoulder lightly but chuckled along with me at my joke.
“Probably. But it was really awkward.” Emma announced. I raised an eyebrow and her face went pink. “I was there buying condoms for Johnny.”
“Oh my God!” I squealed. Her face darkened and I laughed. “You should have asked him to help pick them out.”
“No way dude!” Emma shook her head furiously and I let out a loud laugh before pulling into Jimmy’s driveway.
“He seriously should have!” I babbled as we got out. “I mean then you could be like ‘here baby, Brian picked these out for us.’ It would be so funny!”
“Johnny would have probably died though,” Emma giggled as we walked in. We heard loud noises coming from the back and leisurely made our way there as we continued to talk about yesterday. Emma elbowed me and wiggled her eyebrows playfully. “Brian was looking for you.”
“He was?” I asked, appalled.
“Yup. I told him you weren’t with me and he got embarrassed.” Emma gossiped. I laughed a little and looked away. Yesterday I told Emma I was going shopping for a little bit when really I was with Matt all day. I really felt bad for hanging out with him because the others had a guy’s night and I pulled him from that, but he told me it was fine and they’d get over it. We walked outside and everyone looked over at us and smiled.
“Well look, if it isn’t our two favorite girls.” Jimmy called as he looked up from his fruity looking drink.
“Ah, our one favorite Jimmy. Hello.” I replied happily. He giggled childishly and beckoned me over, so I happily skipped to his seat and slid myself onto his lap. Emma slid on to Johnny’s lap and whispered something in his ear that made his face go red. Probably what we just talked about.
“Hey. Beer boy,” I said to Matt, who was sitting closest to the cooler. “Get me a drink.”
“And why should I?” Matt countered as a sexy smirk crossed his face. I narrowed my eyes a little and sat up properly.
Because I’m a lady,” I recited, mimicking the voice of Marie from Aristocats. The boys laughed and Matt tried not to smile as he went inside Jimmy’s house. I scrunched my eyebrows together and looked at Brian and Zach in disbelief. “Did he just completely disregard what I said?”
Men. Pft.” Zach scoffed as he stuck his nose up. I laughed a little and kicked him lightly before stealing a drink from Jimmy’s cup.
“So Jimbo, why do you have girly drinks?” I questioned as I stared at the fancy pink cup with orange slushy-like liquid in it. “I mean, it’s got the little pineapple slice and umbrella in it as well. That’s full on fruity girl drink.”
“It’s my famous fall drink.” Jimmy retorted with pride. I raised my eyebrow and looked at all the other guys, who were all holding fruity drinks as well. I gave them all weird looks and Brian shrugged.
“The man makes a mean fruity drink.” Brian commented. I pursed my lips and turned my attention to Matt, who was walking back outside with a fruity drink in hand. He handed it to me and I smiled kindly at him, my insides tingling when our hands touched.
“Thanks.” I whispered. He smiled and nodded before sitting back down and grabbing up his fruity drink. I giggled a little and took out my phone, pulling up the camera. I set my drink down to get a picture of Matt drinking from a pink cup, and then I turned my phone sideways so I could get Brian and Zach in as well. Brian and Zach both put their thumbs up, but Matt just smirked and sipped on his straw as I took a picture.
“That’s a real nice picture.” Jimmy addressed as I looked back at the picture with the three of them. I smiled and nodded before pressing the button to make it my background. I went out of my photo album and showed Jimmy, who smiled widely.
“And now it’s my background.” I proclaimed. He snickered and I looked at him before turning on the camera again and taking a picture of Jimmy and I together. I pulled it up and showed him, which made his smile bigger.
“That’s a keeper.” Jimmy told me.
“That it is.” I agreed as I side-hugged him.

We had been here for a few hours and it was around three PM when Gayle suddenly showed up out of nowhere. Matt never spoke of her coming here, and it looked like even he was surprised when she arrived. She gave us a shy smile and we all reluctantly waved to her. She pulled up a chair next to Matt and we all stared at her as she settled herself. She noticed our staring and her cheeks reddened a little.
“Sorry I’m a little late,” she apologized. All of us exchanged glances and she sunk in her chair a little. “I had a doctor’s appointment.” I felt kind of bad for her in a way. Whether we liked it or not—and we really didn’t—she was still technically part of the Avenged family. She was just that one cousin that everyone doesn’t like. I sighed and smiled softly at her.
“At least you’re here now.” I said softly. Gayle gave me a shocked look and I smiled a little more at her. Everyone was giving me weird looks but I ignored them as I tried to make Gayle feel welcome. “How was your doctor’s appointment?”
“Oh, uh, I’m healthy.” Gayle told me. I smiled a little more and blinked.
“That’s good.” I acknowledged. She smiled softly at me and relaxed a little.
“Thanks.” Gayle replied gratefully. I nodded and stood up, grabbing Jimmy’s empty cup as well as my own.
“Do you want a drink?” I asked. She nodded and I returned it before walking in. I put the dirty cups in the sink and rinsed them out a little before opening the fridge and grabbing out three new cups.
“What was that about?” Someone questioned from behind me. I turned around and saw Zach staring at me with wonder in his eyes and I smiled.
“Whether we choose to admit it or not she’s Matt’s girlfriend which means she’s part of the family,” I announced to him. He looked shocked and I sighed. “I know, you’d never thought that’d come out of my mouth.”
“You’re telling me.” Zach scoffed, a smile threatening to show.
“Yeah. But I feel bad, you know? Like she’s done some real bad shit but she’s actually been trying to be nice recently.” I sympathized. “I mean I know we’re supposed to be running her out but just how scared and sad she looked outside when we were all practically glaring at her made me have a change of heart.”
“You’re too sweet for your own good, you know that Kid?” Zach questioned. I laughed a little and nodded before handing him one of the drinks for him to carry out. He grabbed one for himself before following me back out there. I handed Gayle her drink and she thanked me softly before taking a sip of it.
“This is really good.” Gayle complimented as I sat down in my seat next to Jimmy. Jimmy smiled a little and nodded before drinking his own drink, looking taken back. We all began a conversation when my phone buzzed, informing me that I had a text.
That was real sweet of you. Make an excuse to get out of sight so I can thank you.-M
I looked over at Matt, who was stealing glances at me when he was able to. I gave him a questioning look and he nodded towards the side of Jimmy’s house. I chewed on my lip a little, confused on how I was to do so. My phone buzzed again and I looked down, hoping he had an idea.
The trash.-M
I peeked at the trashcan outside from my peripheral vision and noticed that it was in fact pretty full, which gave me a good excuse. I cleared my throat and leaned over towards Jimmy, poking him to get his attention.
“I’m going to take out the trash.” I offered. Jimmy gave me a weird look and glanced at his trash can.
“Why?” Jimmy whispered. I shrugged.
“I can’t be nice?” I accused. Jimmy put his hands up and motioned for me to do as I pleased. I kissed his cheek and smiled before getting up and going to the trashcan. I pulled it out and turned to the others with the bag opened wide. “Perfectionist in the house. Throw away your trash before I go.” Some of the guys shot their trash into the bag and I tied it before walking towards the side of Jimmy’s house where his trashcans were, hoping that Matt would be quick about meeting with me.
*Jimmy’s POV*
It was kind of odd that Kid wanted to take my trash out. I mean, Kid was a strange girl in general, but just randomly asking to take my trash out was just plain odd, even for her. I watched her in confusion as she dragged my trash out of sight to my trash bins on the side of my house, trying to process what just happened. Maybe she was being nice?
“I’m gonna go get a smoke.” Matt declared as he stood up from his seat. Okay, now that was weirder than Kid wanting to take my trash out.
“I thought you quit smoking.” Zach chimed in, verbalizing what I was thinking. Matt shrugged.
“I only do it every once in a while, you know?” Matt shrugged. Everyone else shrugged as well and went on with their business, but I was intrigued.
“Grab me one, eh?” Brian asked. Matt nodded and went in the same direction that Kid went to go to his car. Wait a second… what? I looked at the others, but none of them seems confused by this. Emma and Johnny continued talking their little love talk, Gayle sat quietly playing on her phone, and Brian and Zach talked about guitars or something along those lines. How am I the only one that caught that? I stood up and walked in the direction they went, and no one questioned me or even noticed. I tried to think of reasonable answers for this when I rounded the corner and was stopped, shocked by what I saw.
*Kid POV*
I waited near the corner of the house until Matt showed up beaming with pride that he got away with his little white lie. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me further down the side of Jimmy’s house until we were a good distance from the backyard.
“Getting a smoke, eh?” I mocked, pinching Matt’s chin. He shrugged and I laughed a little. “I can’t believe you said that.”
“Hey, a guy’s gotta have a smoke every once in a while.” Matt stated. I snickered and rolled my eyes.
“So do you really have smokes in your car?” I questioned. He shook his head and I raised my eyebrows. “How are you going to get past that?”
“I’ll just say I ran out.” Matt whispered alluringly as he wrapped his arms around my waist. “Now hush, I need to thank you for being so nice to Gayle.” I blushed a little and he smiled crookedly before kissing me gently. His hand went to my cheek as he deepened the kiss, and I smiled against his mouth as he licked my bottom lip. The tip of our tongues just barely touched when we heard someone stop right next to the house. We pulled away quickly and looked over to see Jimmy staring at us with wide eyes.
“Fuck.” I cursed under my breath. I shared a scared glance with Matt before looking at Jimmy, who was frozen where he was. I waved a little and his face went straight as he walked over to us.
“Do you have smokes?” Jimmy asked flatly. Matt’s face was a deep red as he shook his head, and Jimmy took out a box that was in his pocket. He slid two out and gave them to Matt, who thanked him and quickly left.
“You smoke too?” I questioned, trying to lighten the mood.
“Every once in a while.” Jimmy replied, shrugging a little. I smiled and raised my eyebrows at him, and he pursed his lips.
“Don’t you have a heart condition?” I continued, tapping gently on his chest. Jimmy beamed and nodded.
“That’s why I only have them once in a while.” Jimmy grinned. I laughed a little before my smile dropped, my face paling as I realized what happened. Jimmy had caught us, and now everyone would probably know. Jimmy’s smile faltered a little as he grabbed my hand.
“Why don’t you sleep over tonight so we can talk about what just happened?” Jimmy said quietly, his voice soft. I nodded a little before he squeezed my hand and walked me back to the others, who were too caught up in other things to notice how long Jimmy and I had been gone.

Notes

Okay, please don't kill me because I made Kid be nice to Gayle. That is legitimately one of my many personality problems: I will be nice to people I hate with a fire-y passion if I feel bad for them. It's a bad habit, I know. ~Jessi
