Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Fifty-Five

*Matt POV*
“Hey baby, I’m home.” Gayle called from the front door. I stayed in my position on the couch, lacking the energy to greet Gayle. This girl just would not get angry with me. I will give her fucking silent treatments for days on end and she just takes it. Either she really wants to be with me or she’s really trying to fuck with Kid’s emotions. Gayle can’t do that now though, because Kid has Brian. Gayle walked into the room and I nodded at her, which made her smile. “I see you’re in your let’s-watch-TV-all-day position.”
“Yep.” I answered simply, popping the ‘p’. Gayle put the groceries away in the kitchen and I smirked to myself. Even though I was getting angry with Gayle being in my house all the time, I did enjoy how she’d do everything for me. She has successfully kept my house full of booze and food, finished all the laundry, and making me meals perfectly. Out of all things, I admired her cooking skills as well as her persistence.
“Matt,” Gayle began as she sat herself down on the couch next to me. I looked over at her and she sighed. “We need to talk.”
“About what?” I asked in a bored tone, my eyes not meeting hers. She grabbed my hand and I held myself from ripping it away from her. Gayle looked at me with sad eyes, which made me uncomfortable and hopeful. Maybe she was finally going to end it with me. Both of us knew though that, actually, there was nothing really to end. It was barely like we were dating; it was more like her suctioning herself onto me like a friggin leech.
“You’ve been acting like a real ass to me recently,” She stated, her face softening. I gave her an incredulous look, but she wasn’t fazed by it. This time I did pull my hand away from her and sat up from my slumped position.
“That’s because I don’t want to be with you.” I snapped bluntly. She knew how I felt about her, but yet she just wouldn’t leave. I couldn’t even tell if she still liked me or not.
“Then why did you say yes to getting back together?” Gayle asked, trying to act innocent. I scoffed and sent her a glare. Was she really acting this stupid?
“Because you talked me into it!” I yelled, standing up. She flinched a little bit and I let out a groan. I began pacing and I ran a hand through my hair. “When you came to my house and I refused to get back together with you, you told me if we did then Kid would get jealous and break up with Zach. But she wasn’t even with Zach in the first place!”
“Well now she’s with Brian, so why do you stay hung up on her?” Gayle asked, her voice soft. I looked at her, anger building in me.
“Because I still have hope that we can be together after all of this shit that you caused.” I told her. She raised her eyebrows and I chewed on my lip. “And because Jimmy told me that if me and you broke up, she’d ditch Brian.” Jimmy had talked to me a couple days ago, and I guess that slipped out. But I mean it made me happy, because if I could just drop Gayle then I could have Kid back. Gayle scoffed and shook her head.
“Do you think if he was being serious about it Brian would know about that?” Gayle asked. I just stared at her and she rolled her eyes. “You are all a close-knit circle of friends, if that were true, don’t you think Brian would know and break up with Kid for using him?”
“My point here is that you need to leave, Gayle.” I said, clenching my jaw. I knew that she was right, but I wasn’t going to show her that. But Jimmy wouldn’t lie to me, would he? I felt so conflicted at this moment.
“Matt, it’s over. You can’t get her back.” Gayle said bluntly. I let out a low growl and she stood up.
“I don’t even care anymore, I just want you gone.” I hissed. A sick smirk crossed her face and she walked over to me.
“Do you, Matt? Do you really?” She said quietly. I said nothing and she put a hand on the back of my neck. “Matt, look me straight in my eyes and tell me you have absolutely no feelings for me anymore, and I’ll leave.” It was silent as I looked at her eyes. I wanted to say it; I wanted to say it so badly. But I couldn’t. I fucking couldn’t… because she was right. I still had feelings for her. Her mouth twitched and I could see triumph in her eyes. “Exactly, Matt. You know that you still have feelings for me.”
“How could I not?” I whispered quietly, looking down. “We were together for three fucking years and then it ended so shitty.”
“We can fix that, Matt. If you just try.” Gayle muttered, grabbing my chin to make me look at her. She rubbed my face with her thumb and I flinched. “I know I really messed up ten years ago, and I want to apologize.”
“It’s too late for apologies, Gayle.” I sighed, pulling away from her. “I want Kid now.”
“I know you do. But she has Brian.” Gayle pointed out. I bit my lip and took a deep breath. She walked over to me and stroked my arm. “Matt, I can tell that she’s getting jealous over this. She’s trying to act like it doesn’t bother her, but I know it does.”
“Really?” I questioned, not looking at her.
“Really.” Gayle repeated. I looked over at her and she pursed her lips. “We just need to keep acting like this and sooner or later she’ll crack. If you want her back, you have to make her show you that she wants you back.”
“I can’t when you’re still here.” I spat. She nodded and pulled me closer to her.
“If she proves to you that she wants you back and she’d do anything to do it… I’ll go.” Gayle admitted quietly. I stared at her and she kept herself from looking at me.
“What’s the catch?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. She gave me a confused look and I scoffed. “C’mon, Gayle. I know your body language. I know there’s a catch.”
“Just… Just actually act like we’re together,” Gayle begged, looking up at me with sad eyes. I was about to shake my head when her grip tighten on my arm. “Matt, no one believes that we’re actually together, which is why Kid hasn’t seriously tried to get you back. If they believe that we’re seriously together, stuff might actually happen.”
“I don’t know, Gayle…” I said, looking away from her. I was angry and annoyed with Gayle right now, but of all things, I was scared. If I actually acted like we were together, it’d give her a chance to make one of us, if not both of us, resurface our feelings for each other. I didn’t want to resurface my feelings, but she had already made me. I didn’t want to take the chance, but if it meant that I could get Kid back, I’d do anything. I sighed and looked over at her. She was staring innocently and I squeezed my eyes shut before letting out a breath. “Fine.”
“Great,” She whispered. With that, she pulled me into a kiss, and instead of pulling away, I ended up kissing her back.
