Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Thirty-Eight

“Finally you answer your phone!” Gayle yelled into the phone. It’s been a week since I talked to her, since I was extremely pissed off at her. She had been trying to call me all day, and finally Brian couldn’t take the ringing of my phone and told me to answer it already, regardless of who it was. I was reluctant, since I really just wanted to punch Gayle in the face for ruining everything and slapping me across the face.

“It was silenced. Sorry.” I lied, my voice monotone.

“I haven’t talked to you since I dropped you off a week ago.” Gayle whined.

“It has been a week, hasn’t it?” I replied, rolling my eyes at her complaining. Like she really cared about me.

“Yeah. I want to see you so you can tell me what happened.” Gayle continued. I sighed. I really couldn’t give any less fucks about what she wanted, I really just wanted her to leave me alone. Of course, she couldn’t know that Matt would react that way, but if she would have fucking told me that her and Matt used to date when I first met her, I would have talked to him sooner about her.

“I’m with the guys right now.” I answered, examining my nails.

“What guys?” Gayle asked stupidly. I kept myself from making a noise.

“Brian, Jimmy, Zach, and Johnny.” I listed, looking at the guys around the living room. We were in Brian’s house, all hanging out together since we had nothing better to do. I was practically glued to Zach all week, Jimmy and Brian stayed together for the days that I went to be with them, and Emma was working today, so Johnny was with us too. No one had heard from Matt all week except for when Brian went to see him yesterday, and even though I was still hurt from him, it concerned me that he hadn’t continued to keep in touch with his friends. If it was because I was with them that Matt was being distant I’d have to go home soon because I didn’t want to be the bitch that made Avenged Sevenfold not as close as they were before.

“I tried getting to you through Emma and she said you weren’t there.” Gayle added. I wanted to yell at her for being stupid and flipping the topics repeatedly to redundant subjects, but I refrained myself since all of the guys were staring intently at me.

“That’s because I haven’t been home all week.” I informed her, smiling at all the guys. They smiled back and Johnny, who was the closest to me, wrapped his arm around my shoulder and gave me a side-hug.

“Don’t you think you’re spending a little bit too much time with the guys?” Gayle asked. I glared at the floor, angered by that comment.

“There is no such thing as spending too much time with Avenged Sevenfold.” I retorted, looking at the guys. They all smiled widely and I returned it, meaning what I said. I loved the guys like they were all my brothers and I couldn’t get enough of them. They were better than any of my old friends, besides Emma.

“I went to high school with them, yes there is.” Gayle remarked. I growled under my breath.

“That’s a matter of opinion, Gayle.” I snapped, angry that she was trying to tell me what to do.

“Whoa, someone’s on their period.” Gayle said, sounding defensive.

“What is it that you want? Because if you’re just going to tell me that I should stop hanging out with four amazing guys than you’ve done your job and you can go now.” I replied, kicking Jimmy’s leg playfully, even though I kicked kind of hard from my anger towards Gayle. All of their eyebrows shot upwards as they listened to me talk, and I could tell that Zach and Brian were pissed off about what I had just said.

“I already told you I wanted to hang out with you so you can tell me what happened, there’s no need to go bitch mode on me.” Gayle shot back. I rolled my eyes and sighed deeply.

“Well I already told you that I’m with the guys.” I retorted, leaning myself against the side of the couch.

“Which house?” Gayle questioned.

“Brian’s.” I answered simply, even though I felt immediate regret afterwards. She was probably going to come over and talk to me.

“Great. I’ll be there soon.” Gayle replied before hanging up. I groaned loudly and slid my phone across the floor in distress.

“What’s up?” Johnny asked, looking at me.

“Fucking Gayle is coming here to talk to me.” I moaned, throwing my head back. Everyone looked at me in shock, except for Brian, who looked angry.

“That bitch steps foot in my house I will cut her.” Brian threatened, cracking his knuckles. I looked at him and pursed my lips, trying not to smile. He gave me a weird look and I held back a laugh.

“You gon’ cut a bitch? That what you gon’ do?” I mocked, unable to hold back a giggle. Everyone laughed, including Brian. He pretended to flip his hair back and take out earrings.

“Ah hell nah, hold my shit girl. Ima cut a bitch.” Brian said loudly in a stereotypical black girl voice. Everyone laughed louder and I hit Brian’s leg playfully. We continued to joke about Gayle coming over when there was a knock at the door. I was about to stand up when the door opened. Gayle sauntered in like she owned the place, and I could tell that Brian was pissed that she just let herself in.

“Guys! You all look the exact same as you did in high school,” Gayle cooed, looking at the boys. They all just stared at her for a few minutes, the tension growing so thick you could swim in it.

“Gayle, you smell as slutty as you did in high school,” Brian retorted from his spot on the couch. I held back a laugh, but the other guys didn’t. Zach gave him a high five and Jimmy hid his face behind Johnny, who had a hand over his mouth. Gayle glared at Brian before giving him a fake smile.

“Brian, I see that you still have to put more makeup on than me to look good.” Gayle replied. Brian stood up and sent her a death glare, which just make her smile in triumph.

“At least people like looking at my face and don’t get sick when they see me.” Brian shot back. Once again everyone held back laughter and Gayle began to look pissed.

“You wanna go Bri?” Gayle growled walking up to him. Brian smirked and she pushed herself up again him. “Because I will take you.”

“I would, but I don’t want to catch slut from you.” Brian mused, spitting the word ‘slut’. Gayle smiled darkly and batted her eyelashes innocently.

“Oh hunny, you don’t need to catch it from me. Judging from the amount of girlfriends you had in high school, you caught it before I even had the chance.” Gayle purred, reaching up to straighten out a piece of Brian’s hair. Brian’s expression darkened and he grabbed Gayle by the wrist.

Don’t touch me.” Brian growled. Gayle just smiled and gave him a look as though he just admitted she was right. Brian glared at her and his lip twitched. “I’m not afraid to hit you, Gayle.”

“Do it. I dare you.” Gayle challenged. I could see that Brian was about to lose it, so I cleared my throat. Gayle looked at me, but Brian continued to choke Gayle with his eyes.

“Gayle, you’re almost a foot shorter than Bri. I wouldn’t let your cockiness get you into a shitload of trouble.” I warned her, secretly hoping Brian would punch her. I felt somewhat bad for being so cold to Gayle, but she ruined the friendship we had. She kept secrets about being with Matt, fed me bullshit, hit me, and made things between Matt and me worse. If she would have just told me about her and Matt in the beginning, maybe things wouldn’t be this way.

“Then call your dog back so we can talk like I had originally came here from.” Gayle answered, shooting a glare back at Brian. I sighed and stood up, walking over to them. I put my hand on Brian’s arm and he looked at me. I squeezed his arm a little and he gave me a look before sitting down next to Zach. I turned towards Gayle and she smirked.

“So what do you want to know?” I questioned, hoping this would be quick. But, knowing Gayle, it most likely wouldn’t be.

“What happened with Matt?” Gayle asked, anticipation crossing her face.

“He apologized for flipping shit on me about the date.” I answered simply, crossing my arms over my chest. My heart burned a little, but I pushed back the feelings of what happened with Matt so I could focus on my feelings towards Gayle.

“So are you guys back together?” Gayle asked, smiling widely. I shook my head and her face dropped. “Why? Didn’t you just say he apologized?”

“He did apologize. But he wasn’t very forgiving when he found out who dropped me off.” I continued. Her face fell even more and she gave me a baffled look.

“He got mad that I dropped you off?” She questioned. I shook my head.

“Not just that you dropped me off. He was angry that I was friends with you without telling him and the fact that I almost believed the bullshit story you gave me about you and him.” I spat. She was about to say something when I cut her off. “He told me what really happened. That was a shit thing of you to do to him, and it was a shit thing of you to lie to me about it. Why did you lie?”

“Kid, I was drunk.” Gayle pointed out, even though you could tell she was bluffing. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.

“You looked pretty sober when you were commenting that Matt was a good kisser.” I retorted, trying to hide a small cringe as I remembered kissing Matt. That seemed like months ago, but it’s only been two weeks.

“Regardless, he really freaked out that we were friends?” Gayle continued, rolling her eyes as well. I nodded and she made a noise. “Of course. He’s a fucking baby.”

“Watch it.” Zach snapped. Gayle smiled at him and Zach just glared.

“Does this have anything to do with you guys?” Gayle hissed, shooting a glance at all the guys.

“Yes it does. Because Matt and Kid are our friends and you fucked everything up.” Johnny spoke up. I didn’t know whether he was in high school with them since he was a few years younger than everyone, but I guess Gayle noticed him being there.

“Of all people, you should stay out of it.” Gayle growled. Everyone tensed up and I could tell shit was about to go down.

“Since you think none of them should be involved, quit involving them and keep your insults about Matt to a minimum.” I interjected, pulling everyone’s attention back to me. Gayle sighed and I shifted my weight. “Anyway, he freaked out because I didn’t tell him we were friends.”

“Why didn’t you?” Gayle persisted, smugness covering her face.

“I didn’t tell him we were friends because it was never brought up between us, but he was mostly upset that I was still friends even though you guys dated before.” I explained, getting irritated with her attitude.

“That’s your fault, not mine.” Gayle said simply. That was it. Before I could process what I was doing, my hand collided with her face and she stepped back in shock, holding her face.

“Neither of you told me that you guys dated!” I shrieked, going completely over the edge. Everyone stared in shock as anger and upset bubbled over me. “The only person that ever brought up the relationship was Johnny, and he just told me it was a three year relationship!”

“How the hell is that my fault?” Gayle yelled, her cheek going red under her hand. I growled and took a step towards her, causing her to step back.

“I noticed from the first day I met you that there was something up whenever I said Matt’s name. If you would have told me you guys dated from the very beginning, things would have been different.” I said through clenched teeth. Gayle just stared at me for a minute.

“So you’re going to drop our friendship because of a boy?” Gayle asked incredulously. I shook my head slowly.

“I’m not the one that ruined our friendship, Gayle.” I replied quietly. She stared at me and I sighed. “If you would have just come clean the first time we met, things wouldn’t have turned out that way.”

“So is that it, then?” Gayle questioned. I shrugged and she bit her lip. She looked up at me with hard eyes and let out a deep breath. “Fine. I understand. But if and when these guys do something to you, you know my number.” With that she walked out of Brian’s house, slamming the door behind her. We all stared in shock for a few minutes, the tension in the air still thick. I stayed still in my position until I heard a chuckle. I glanced at Jimmy, who was smiling. I gave him a look and he pursed his lips.

“I think you left a handprint on her face.” Jimmy said, pursing his lips. I laughed a little, and so did the rest of the guys. We all loosened our stances and I sat down between Zach and Brian, smiling to myself.

“I owed her a slap in the face. Now we’re even.” I whispered, laughing to myself.

Notes

Just a note here, don’t get mad at me if the chapters are all spread out now. I know that I used to update every day, but that was when I had the next twenty chapters all written up. But now I’ve been busy because I’m moving and shit, so I only have like the next two or three ready, so don’t you dare get angry if they’re three days apart. Thanks <3
