Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Thirty-Two

After Zach left I laid in bed for a few minutes just feeling nothing. Right as I woke up I was hit with a burst of emotions from last night, but now I felt absolutely nothing. I knew that sooner or later the emotions would come back to bite me in the ass, but I decided I wanted to take advantage of the strange lack of emotion I was experiencing. I crawled out of bed to realize that I was only in my underwear, and my dress was hung back up into the closet. I threw my hair into a ponytail and pulled out sweats and a plain black tank top before walking out into the living room. Emma was curled on the chair as usual, but she looked up in shock when she saw me.
“Hey.” I said, yawning. I trudged towards the kitchen, smirking slightly at her bewildered expression.
“Hey…” Emma replied hesitantly. I pulled out Raisin Bran and poured myself a bowl before sitting myself back down on the couch. Emma was still gawking at me, and I smirked.
“What?” I questioned, taking a bite of my cereal. Emma pursed her lips and shifted uncomfortably.
“Why aren’t you writhing on the floor in pain?” Emma asked bluntly. I flinched a little, but shook off the small pang of pain I felt.
“Hasn’t hit me quite yet, I guess.” I answered simply, shrugging. Emma continued to stare, and soon enough I became irritated. I sighed and she blinked. “Have you invited Johnny over yet?”
“Not yet.” She answered, once again hesitant. I pulled out my phone and pulled up Johnny’s contact and began calling him.
“I’ll call him for you.” I offered, although the phone was already to my cheek.
“Thanks.” Emma mumbled, awkwardly looking back at her laptop.
“If you don’t mind, I’m going to invite Jimmy over too.” I informed her, trying to make small talk as I waited for Johnny to answer. Emma glanced at me and raised her eyebrow. “There was this chick that was into him last night and I want to see how it went.”
“Okay.” Emma replied simply. The phone stopped ringing and I heard a click, telling me that Johnny had answered his phone.
“Hello?” Johnny asked, sounding as though he didn’t know it was me calling.
“My God, short shit; did you drink too much last night and delete my number or something?” I questioned, my voice light. Emma raised an eyebrow, but I chose to ignore her as I shoved another spoon of cereal into my mouth.
“Oh, Kid. No, I just didn’t know whether it’d be you or Emma calling me.” Johnny explained. I nodded and swallowed my bite.
“Are you with Jimmy by chance?” I inquired, playing with my spoon.
“He just left, actually. Sorry.” Johnny said.
“It’s fine. I just called to ask if you were coming over. I mean, you come over almost every day, so I don’t really need to ask anymore.” I babbled mindlessly, finishing up the last of my cereal.
“Yeah, you’re right.” Johnny chuckled. I smiled to myself and slurped up my milk before walking to the kitchen to put my bowl in the sink. “I’ll be there soon.”
“Okay. Bye Johnny.” I said, hanging up. I pulled up Jimmy’s contact and began calling him, walking back to the living room. Emma still looked rigid, and I tried to hide my annoyance. I knew that she had good reasons for being tense around me, considering what happened last night, but I was acting normal, so she had no reason to be worried. Or atleast, she had no reason to worry yet.
“Good morning, Kid.” Jimmy greeted happily as he picked up the phone. I smiled and plopped myself onto the couch, staring blankly at the wall.
“Good morning, Jimmy.” I replied, just as cheery. “You wanna come over today? I wanna know how it went with the cute girl chasing you.”
“Sure thing, I’ll be there in a bit.” Jimmy agreed. We said our goodbyes and hung up, leaving the room silent. I let out a breath and set my phone on the side table, stretching across the couch. The room stayed silent for a few minutes before I let out a deep breath, catching Emma’s attention.
“You’re waiting for me to go off, aren’t you?” I questioned, giving Emma a look.
“Yup.” She replied simply, staring at me. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest.
“It’s not going to happen for a while.” I informed her, which caused her to raise an eyebrow.
“Yeah? And how do you know exactly?” She asked, her voice slightly accusing.
“Because usually when I’m about to go off I have that heart crushing feeling,” I began, giving her a smug look. “And right now I feel nothing.”
“Nothing?” Emma repeated. I nodded calmly.
“Absolutely nothing.” I stated. She narrowed her eyes at me and we continued just to stare until the door open. We both tore our gaze from each other to watch Jimmy and Johnny walk in together, coincidentally getting here at the same time. Johnny walked over and picked Emma up so he could sit underneath her, and I moved my legs so Jimmy could sit next to me.
“Good morning, girls.” Johnny said happily. I smiled and nodded at him, but Emma remained silent, staring at me. I shook her off and looked at the guys, who were both looking curiously between Emma and I.
“So how was your guys’ night last night?” I questioned lightly, genuinely curious about how the night went without Matt and I.
“Mine was good.” Johnny answered first, making me turn my attention to him. “It was just like any normal trip to the bar with the guys, but I still enjoyed it. That club has a good taste in music, and Jimmy even got all of us on the dance floor.”
“Well I’m glad you enjoyed it.” I commented, smiling at him. He returned it and I turned towards Jimmy. “What about you?”
“It was fun.” Jimmy replied, smiling. “After you left, I got to know the cupcake girl.”
“Really? What’d you learn about her?” I asked, shifting so I was faced towards him more.
“Her name is Jamie Lee, she’s from Florida, ew,” Jimmy began, pretending to shiver in disgust at the fact she was from Florida. I punched him lightly and he laughed before clearing his throat. “She’s here for work and she’ll be here for a year, and she’s single.”
“She is or she was?” I questioned, raising an eyebrow. Jimmy mimicked me and I smirked, rolling my eyes at him.
“She is.” Jimmy stated. I gave him a look and he sighed. “She’s was cute and really funny, but the Rev is enjoying being a lone wolf.”
“Oh, I’m totally sure that’s true.” I joked, shoving him with my foot. He karate chopped my shin and I laughed, shoving him again. I looked towards Johnny and Emma to see that they were whispering to each other, constantly sending glances to me. Typical.
“So how was your night?” Johnny asked, pulling away from Emma. I smiled lightly and shrugged.
“It was fine. Liquid is a huge club,” I commented, continuing to smile. “I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if you could see it from space it’s so bright.”
“The look on your face was priceless when the bartender almost called security on you, by the way.” Johnny added, snickering. I grimaced at the thought and looked at Jimmy, who looked entertained and also curious.
“I saw you and Matt leave Liquid early, where’d you guys go?” Jimmy questioned. Ah, the question I’ve been waiting for; and apparently, the question Emma was waiting for too. She sat up a little on Johnny’s lap and shut her laptop before setting it on the coffee table.
“Well I took him to the restaurant named ‘The Window’ in French,” I began, chuckling to myself at how someone seriously named a restaurant something so stupid. “And then I took him up to a cliff for us to stargaze.”
“Why’d you do that?” Jimmy persisted, raising an eyebrow. I smiled at him, ignoring the numb feeling in my heart.
“It was just an extra special ‘thanks’ to him for stopping the guy at the concert from raping me.” I informed him, shrugging. He nodded and it looked like he was about to drop it when Emma leaned a little towards my direction.
“You came home drunk and in tears, though.” Emma said quietly, her eyes full of confusion and sadness. Johnny and Jimmy looked at me in shock and I shrugged again.
“While we were at the cliff Matt flipped shit on me and said he was done with me.” I replied flatly. Everyone’s eyes widened and I prepared myself for the millions of questions I was about to receive.
“Wh-why?” Johnny stuttered. I sighed and looked between all of them.
“I’ll start at the beginning,” I informed them. They all stared in anticipation and I focused on our patio door, beginning to stare into space. “I invited Zach over earlier yesterday because I wanted to take Matt out on a special date, and together we created the perfect date. I had Zach help me pick out my outfit and plan everything else up to taking Matt to a cliff over-looking the city that Zach had shown me when I first got here. So I went along with the date and soon we ended at the cliff and the question appeared. How did I find the cliff. I began telling him that Zach brought me up there, and Matt totally flipped out, accusing me of having Zach plan the whole date and I just went along with it. After that he said he was done with me and drove away, leaving me on the cliff. Luckily Zach picked me up and here I am.”
“Why aren’t you a huge mess after that?” Jimmy questioned bluntly, reminding me of Emma. Once again I sighed and shrugged.
“I don’t know. I felt pain this morning right when I woke up, but after a few minutes I just felt nothing. And I still feel nothing. But I know that sooner or later today I’m going to burst into tears and curl into a big ball of pain, so I’m soaking up the time I have before I become crippled.” I explained. Jimmy just nodded and pulled out my Xbox controllers and handing me one.
“Well then, let us take advantage of this time.” Jimmy stated, starting up Call of Duty. I nodded and smiled before turning towards the screen and focusing on the game.
