Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Twenty-Nine

“Hey, you actually came,” I greeted as I opened the door. Matt smiled and walked in. He looked over his shoulder and raised an eyebrow.
“Why wouldn’t I come?” He asked as he plopped himself on the couch. I shut the door and smirked.
“I don’t know. It’s totally not because almost every time I invited you before you’d make up some excuse to see me.” I stated sarcastically, sending a mocking face to him before going to the fridge and picking out two beers. “I just can’t quite put my finger on why you wouldn’t come today.”
“Okay, Ms. Sass,” Matt chuckled, leaning more into the couch. He stretched his arm across the back of the couch and looked at me. I smiled innocently and he laughed. “I know I’ve ditched you a few times, but-“
“A few?” I scoffed, walking over to him. He grimaced and lightly shoved me. I snickered and he smiled again. I sat next to Matt and handed him his beer as I took a sip. He gulped down a drink before wiping his mouth and looking at me.
“Okay, a lot.” Matt restated, tilting his head childishly towards me. I set both of our beers on my coffee table before leaning back against him. He draped his arm over my shoulder and laid his head on my other shoulder. He was staring up at me, his hazel eyes glowing. “But we’re together now, so why would I miss a chance to be with my Kid?” As he continued speaking, his voice got quieter and he was inching his face towards mine. Just as he finished his sentence, his lips were brushing against mine. It immediately sent my mind into a fog and I kissed him.
Matt sat himself up and turned his body towards me, not breaking our kiss. I mimicked his actions and he pulled me closer. He wrapped his arms around my waist and traced my spine through my shirt. I shivered a little and deepened the kiss. He let out a small sigh and scooted closer to me.
“So where’s Emma?” Matt mumbled against my lips, his fingers playing with the bottom of my shirt. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck.
“Out with Johnny or something,” I answered, pulling myself as close as I could to him without being on his lap. Matt smiled widely and played with my lip ring.
“So we’re alone?” He whispered alluringly, grazing his teeth against my bottom lip. I light-headedly nodded and he growled in satisfaction against my lips. “Perfect.” He bit my lip and I whimpered. I deepened the kiss and his hands pushed my shirt up a little. He ran his fingers across my waist, and I jolted a little. Matt stopped kissing me and pulled away. He raised an eyebrow and I pursed my lips, trying not to smile. He touched my waist gently again and I jumped. “You’re ticklish?”
“If I say yes are you going to tickle me?” I questioned, scooting slightly back. A wicked smile crossed his face and he nodded a little. My eyes widened and I gulped. “Then no.”
“No, I know you’re lying now.” Matt muttered evilly, scooting closer to me. I moved away again and Matt lunged towards me. I screamed and dodged him, standing up. He smiled fiendishly and jumped up, his hands out towards me. Matt chased me around my living room, grabbing at my hips. I kept squealing and barely dodging him until he jump attacked me to the floor. I closed my eyes, waiting for him to tickle me. I gasped when he kissed me roughly, hovering himself over me. I immediately kissed him back and wrapped my arms around his neck. Matt’s hand went down to the bottom of my shirt again, and he inched it up. He ran his hand across my stomach as I played with his lip ring, which caused his arm to shake. He began pushing up my shirt a little bit more, his fingertips inching up my stomach. Just as his fingers brushed the rod of my bra, his phone went off. He pursed his lips and sat up, looking slightly pissed. He pulled out his phone and answered it with a blank face. “Hello?”
Matt, do you know where Kid is? I heard Zach say from the other line. I scooted towards Matt and put my ear next to the phone so I could hear. Matt threw me a look and licked his lips.
“Uh… why?” Matt questioned. I heard a desperate sigh come from the other line, and I began getting nervous.
I tried calling her like ten times but she didn’t answer. Zach nearly yelled.
“Shit.” I whispered quietly, standing up. I jogged into my bedroom and flopped onto the bed to grab my phone. I turned it on and my eyes widened. I looked back at the door and Matt was staring at me. “He was right on the money. Ten calls exactly.”
“So what do you need, Zach?” Matt asked as I walked back to him. I sat down and put my ear to the phone again.
Can I hang out with you today? All the other guys are busy and I’m freaking out right now. Matt gave me a look and pursed his lips.
“I’m kind of with Kid right now.” Matt mumbled, looking away from me.
Shit! Zach yelled loudly. Matt glanced back at me and I pouted. Whatever happened must have been big, because he sounded like he was going to have a heart-attack and it made me worried. Matt stared at my face and I looked sadly at him, my sister instincts kicking in. Matt sighed and pulled his gaze away from me.
“You can come over. We’re at Kid’s place.” Matt said almost reluctantly. I heard Zach thank him almost ten times before hanging up. Matt threw a look at me and I smiled widely. He chuckled and played with the neck of my shirt. “You’re lucky you’re adorable, you know?”
“Are you not worried about Zach?” I asked, taken back. Matt looked at me, shocked.
“No, no, I am worried. He sounds like he did in high school when he told us about his parental issues.” Matt protested, shaking his head. I stared in awe and Matt’s lips twitched. “I want to think it has something to do with his parents, but he hasn’t talked to either of them in a long time.” I nodded a little and leaned myself back on my arms. Matt looked at me with desire and slowly moved his hands toward me. He traced the lines of my bra and sighed, looking back up at me. “I think the universe is trying to tell me something.”
“One step at a time, son.” I chuckled, my gaze going to his fingertips. His fingers lightly brushed around the outline of my bra, his hand twitching on occasion. After a few minutes, he rested his hand on my chest, wrapping it around one of my breasts. Matt glanced at me, probably making sure it was okay for him to do that. I smirked at him in response and he returned it before looking back at his hand. This was one of those moments that was comfortably-awkward. It would have been slightly more enjoyable that Matt finally made it to second base after almost three months of knowing me, when he usually only has to wait the one minute it takes for every other girl to rip her panties off, if Zach weren’t going to be here any minute. Matt must have felt that too, because his hand kept twitching and he kept glancing at the door. After another minute of weird silence, Matt sighed and pulled his hand away.
“Damn it, Zach. Made getting to second base more awkward than satisfactory.” Matt mumbled. I chuckled and nodded, rubbing his shoulder. Matt smiled at me and laughed too. There was a knock at the door and Matt pursed his lips. “Well, the guest of honor is here.”
“Hey.” Zach mumbled, smiling weakly at Matt as he opened the door. Zach looked like absolute shit. His hair was in clumps and his face was pale. He had bags under his eyes and his eyes had that crazy-mental-patience glaze. I stared in shock as he pulled Matt into a hug. “Thanks for letting me come over, man.”
“No problem dude,” Matt replied, patting his back. Zach threw me a look and I half-smiled.
“Well, I was going to say good job for keeping Matt from getting to second base,” I began, standing up. Zach raised an eyebrow and I sighed sadly. “But obviously it was worth it. You look like shit.”
“It’s good seeing you too, Kid.” Zach sneered jokingly, walking over to me. He pulled me into a tight hug and sighed. “I haven’t seen you in like three weeks.”
“I know, dude. Where have you been?” I asked, flattening the back of his hair. I glanced at Matt and he was staring blankly at us. Atleast he didn’t look pissed.
“Home.” Zach chuckled, pulling away. I began running my fingers through his hair to get out the clumps, but Zach ducked away. He put his hands protectively over his hair and stared at me. “Don’t touch my hair.”
“Jesus, you’ve been around Bri a little too much.” Matt laughed, hitting Zach on the back. Matt sat down, and I followed him. Zach sat on our loveseat and I scrunched my nose. He gave me a weird look and I pursed my lips.
“That’s Emma’s and Johnny’s suck-face-and-have-sex chair.” I informed him. Zach made disgusted look and scooted to the very edge of the chair.
“That’s sick. Can’t they use the bedroom?” Zach questioned, gagging a little. I grimaced and Matt chuckled.
“I made a freaking sex bedroom for them, but they continue to defile my bed and chair.” I grumbled, glaring at the floor. Zach laughed and gave me a weird look. Oh right, he hasn’t seen the sex room yet. I pointed towards the spare room and Zach stood up. He went over and gasped loudly before walking back into the living room, still gawking at my masterpiece. Zach chuckled and looked at me.
“Hey, can I bring some girls over to use that room?” Zach asked jokingly.
“As long as they’re clean and you don’t ruin the comforter.” I replied, laughing a little. Zach’s smile faded once again and he looked down at the floor. I sighed and frowned, remembering that there was something seriously wrong with Zach and he wasn’t telling us. It was awkward for a few minutes as Zach stared between Matt and I. Soon enough, Matt let out a breath.
“So, Zach. What’s going on?” Matt asked, sitting up a little. I sat up, too, anxious to hear why Zach looked like he was terminally ill. Zach licked his lips and forced a smile.
“Nothing.” Zach lied, chuckling a little. “I just wanted to hang out with someone today.”
“Bullshit.” I snapped, getting impatient. Zach’s smile dropped and he looked at his feet. Matt leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees.
“Zach, tell us what’s up. You look sick and that’s unnerving.” Matt said softly, general concern covering his face. I looked at Matt in awe; this was probably one of the first times he’s been anything but angry towards Zach for the past couple months. Zach noticed that too, because he sighed sadly and ran a hand through his hair. He began going pale again, and he started breathing deeply. Zach looked at us, pure fear in his eyes.
“My dad called me today.” Zach stated. I was a little shocked that he could be freaking out over something so simple, but then I realized there was more. I ushered him to continue and Zach made a choking noise. “And he has a new girlfriend.”
