Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Thirteen

I huffed as I pushed my car door shut with my hip. I put the bag of food on my car hood for a second so I could put my keys in my pocket before picking it up again. I situated the paper bag so it wouldn’t fall out of my arms before walking up Matt’s driveway towards his door. I balanced the bag in one arm as I swung the door open and walked in. Matt looked up at me from his position on the couch and smiled. I smiled back and kicked the door shut before walking towards the kitchen.
“Hey, Kid.” Matt greeted, watching me as I put the bag of food on his counter. “What are you doing here?”
“I haven’t seen you in a while so I decided I’d come by and make us some spaghetti for lunch.” I answered, taking out the ingredients I had bought to make lunch. He smiled wider and I returned it. “Oh, and I don’t like sauce, so if you don’t either you get free vegetables.”
“Sounds wonderful,” Matt complimented, not moving from his spot on the couch. “And I love sauce.”
“With peppers and tomato slices in it?” I questioned, pulling the peppers out of the plastic bag. Matt nodded and I smiled before grabbing out a cutting board and knife. I pulled out a pot and filled it water to boil before beginning to cut the peppers. It stayed silent for a few minutes, the only noise being the sound of cutting and the conversation on the TV. I cleared my throat but didn’t look up at Matt as I tried to start conversation. “So you got the guys to leave finally?”
“Yeah, thankfully.” Matt laughed, sitting himself up a little on the couch. I chuckled and glanced at him through my eyelashes.
“Where’d they go?” I asked, trying to stay focused on the peppers.
“Brian and Jimmy went back to Brian’s for a bit, Johnny is probably having sex with Emma for the millionth time, and Za-“
“Wait, they’ve had sex?” I questioned, dropping my knife and looking at him. He laughed at my reaction and shrugged. “They’ve been dating for like three weeks!”
“Well, I don’t actually know if they are,” Matt began, smiling. He stood up and stretched, his shirt going up just enough to show his stomach. I stared for a second before snapping out of it and going back to the peppers. He ran a hand through his hair before walking towards me. “But I mean, Emma’s a huge fan and she’s dating Johnny Christ. Given her personality, I bet you she would have had sex with him the first night they met if we weren’t all drunk and in the same room.”
“Well I’m a huge fan, you’re M. freaking Shadows, and we haven’t had sex yet,” I stated jokingly. He smiled lustfully and wrapped an arm around my waist.
“You wanna change that?” Matt whispered alluringly in my ear, wrapping his other arm around my waist. I shuddered and he chuckled darkly. He kissed the back of my neck, causing me to shiver. I turned my head to look at him, and I stared at him with puppy dog eyes.
“Don’t do that to me, I’m trying to cook,” I whined. He smirked seductively and turned me around. He came close to me and wrapped his arms tightly around my waist, causing our bodies to touch. He leaned down and kissed my jaw line, making me lose my breath. He chuckled again and looked at me, want evident in his eyes. He stepped away and smiled darkly. I punched him in the stomach and he laughed. “You are a fucking tease.”
“It’s what I do,” Matt replied innocently. I hit him again and he gave me a goofy smile. I went back to cutting and he walked over to the stove and looked back at me. “The water’s beginning to boil, want me to start the noodles.”
“That’d be wonderful, actually.” I answered, smiling at him. I handed him the noodles and he put them in the water and began stirring. I finished cutting the vegetables, so I took out another pan and poured the sauce and vegetables in it. I went back to the grocery bag and pulled out a small bottle of dill and began shaking it into the sauce. Matt gave me a weird look and I raised my eyebrows. “What?”
“You seriously bought a whole bottle of dill for one serving of sauce?” Matt asked incredulously. I shrugged and he continued to stare at me. “I have dill!”
“Well I didn’t know that, Mr. Sassy-Pants.” I retorted, sticking my tongue out at him. He grabbed it with his fingers and I whimpered. “Ay thounge!”
“That is adorable.” Matt cooed, not letting go of my tongue. I whimpered again and he laughed before letting go. I pouted and he smiled widely before pulling me into a hug. He tightened his grip around my shoulders and I snuggled my head into his chest. “Thank you for making me lunch, Kid. It’s very sweet of you.”
“No prob, Matty-Bear.” I replied, smiling into his chest. He let go and continued to stir the noodles before pulling on out and tasting it. “It’s pretty soft. Do you care if the noodles are slightly hard?”
“No.” I answered, smiling at him. He returned the smile before pulling out a strainer and pouring the noodles slowly into it. I finished up the sauce before pulling out two plates and a couple forks for us and set them on the counter. He finished straining the noodles and took out spoon to get them out of the strainer, and we served ourselves. He led me to a small table I had never seen him use before and pulled my chair out. He ran back to the kitchen and got us both a soda before sitting down. I swirled noodles onto my fork and took a big bite before realizing that Matt was staring at me weirdly. “What?”
“You don’t put anything on your spaghetti?” He asked, crinkling his face. I threw my fork on my plate and stood up, causing the chair to fall onto the floor.
“Oh my God, Matt! Can you not question my ways of life for one damn minute!” I screamed loudly. He stared at me, fear crossing his face. I threw my hands up in frustration before looking at him and winking. He widened his eyes before smiling and laughing.
“My God, Kid. You are horrifying.” He laughed, clapping at my performance. I bowed before sitting the chair back up and beginning to eat again.
“I try,” I mumbled, my mouth full of food. He smiled and I swallowed before returning it.
“This is really good.” Matt moaned as he shoved a large bite in his mouth.
“Thanks.” I said, smiling widely. I took a drink and reached over the table to grab his hand. He met me in the middle and smiled as he laced his fingers in mine. He was about to say something when the door opened.
“I smell spaghetti, Matt, are you- Oh, hey Kid.” Jimmy said loudly, interrupting our lunch. I pursed my lips and looked at Matt. He sighed and put his head down. He groaned and looked at Jimmy.
“You know there’s this thing called calling before you come over, Jimbo.” Matt explained, looking both entertained and slightly irritated. Jimmy just smiled widely and walked to the kitchen.
“I know. But that’s not as fun.” Jimmy answered, pulling out a plate. As Jimmy got a plate of spaghetti, Brian and Zach walked through the door, laughing about something one of them had said.
“Oh hey guys. Smells good in here.” Brian complimented as he walked to the kitchen to get himself some. Zach followed and smiled at us before getting in line behind Brian for spaghetti. I looked back at Matt and smirked.
“It’s the thought that counts,” I laughed. Matt smiled and nodded.
“It was nice being alone with you for a little bit.” Matt added. I nodded and he smiled wider. We pulled our hands away and began eating again, talking with the guys while we did so.
