Jacky’s POV
I was so happy that Arin really convinced Matt that we could leave together.
Brian was so confusing to me, the way he treated me after the sex and then him wanting to make it up to me?
But he just wanted more sex, right?
Damn...

When he put his hands on my cheek I nearly gave in to him, his touch was toxic for me, addictive, but he had fucked up, big time and I wasnt easy to sway.
He better think of something good, or I better stay away, this was doomed anyway, so why bother?
“I think we are here...” Arin voice roused my from my thoughts and I looked around.
“Yes, we are.” I was about to jump out of the car when Arin grabbed my arm again looking at me serious.
“Jacky, you gotta listen to me. I took a great risk in taking you here alone. So please, dont get yourself in danger and behave.” Arin grinned at the last part and I patted his cheek.
“I promise.”
“So what are we doing here? And where is that event?” Arin asked when we walked towards the entrance.

“This is a homeless shelter, we are preparing food for them and giving them some warm clothes, we try to make them feel a little better, care for them. I have been doing that for years now, I have a lot of friends in restaurants and shopping center, they sponsor food and other items they need.”
“So you are the main responsible person for all this, you are managing all this?” Arin asked and I didn’t hear disbelief in his voice just something like astonishment.
“I.. well yes... You know, my Mom was very...” I had to swallow thickly “My mom used to do a lot of social work and she took me with her sometime, I was still young but I liked to help, liked to spend time with my Mom and all these people so I took over the task when she died.” I whisked a tear away and Arin made a step towards me to comfort me but was interrupted from a voice.
“JACKY!” Dean’s voice sounded happy and he was coming towards us from the entrance.
I smiled widely, happy to finally see him again.

“Babe, you made it.” He lifted me up and swirled me around, kissing my cheek.
“Hmhm...” Arin coughed a little, making Dean set me back down.
“Don’t you want to introduce us?” Arin asked and I grinned.
“Arin, this is Dean, my best friend. Dean, this is Arin my little brother / bodyguard for the night.” I introduced them and the two men shook hands, but I saw Arin looking at me a little questioning, I knew that he would ask me some questions later on.
“Come on, let’s get inside. They are waiting for you to make the welcome speech.” Dean said and smiled, it felt so good to see him again.
He laid his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his body, I quickly grabbed Arin’s hand and pulled him inside with us.

Josephine’s POV
Finally I would get some grip back on my at this moment so messed up life, I was wearing the only suit I had with me, my hair was up in a tight bun, my business uniform was on, with matching attitude. It felt so good on one hand, it felt like I had control, I was back in my role of vice president again, back to what I knew, but on the other hand, this image I was wearing now, it seemed to feel foreign to me and that scared me. Even if I didn´t want to admit to it, these past few days gave me a weird sense of something else, a person I had shielded from the world ever since my mother died, the sense that there was something more than only work, only control and the man next to me, driving me to my company, was to thank for that.

Watching Matt drive gave a weird feeling of comfort, he was making small talk, but never ever took his eyes of the road. When we got in the car he told me to give him directions on how to drive over to the company the best way, he said he liked it better that way. I saw my office building appear before us
“Just turn right here, you can park in the parking garage, there will be space available there”
Matt nodded and turned the car in the direction I had pointed him. As soon as the car stood still, I wanted to get out, but he stopped me.
“Joe, I know you are the boss here, but you have to let me do my job. I don’t know if your office is safe, please promise me you’ll stay with me and do as I tell you to, without question. Please?”
He looked at me with purpose, his eyes almost begging me, I nodded and earned myself a dimpled smile with that. He got out and walked around the car to opened my door and in that little moment alone, I allowed myself a sigh, I couldn’t get rid of that feeling in my stomach, a feeling that was so unknown to me.
“Come on mrs. Vice President, let’s go and take back your kingdom” Matt smiled as he opened my door and helped me out.

I walked in the building and was greeted by our night guard
“Miss Thompkinson, good to see you”
“Hello Nick, how is the little one?” I smiled at him, he just became a dad three months ago and I saw his grin getting face wide.
“Very good, growing with the minute”
“Good, I need some things from my office, I won’t be long”
Matt and I walked into the elevator and I saw him watching me with a slight smile on his face.
“Who was that?”
“Nick, the night-“
“No, not him, you, that caring woman?”
I wanted to feel offended by the insinuation he was making, but somehow I didn’t know where I should get it from and that look at his face didn’t help either
“I’m good for my employees Matthew, interested in them, nothing wrong with that”
He chuckled and leaned against the wall, standing just a little too close to me, our hands almost touching as he leaned back, waiting for my floor to arrive.
It would be so easy to hold his hand, touch him again, but he made himself perfectly clear. It shouldn’t have happened, I wouldn’t happen again, but if I just could… one more time…

The ping of the elevator got me out of my daydream and I watched Matt walk out of the elevator. The floor was dark, but the lights went on as soon as he stepped out, he looked around as I walked after him.
“What did I ask you? I told you to wait” his voice sounded annoyed.
“The lights have movement sensors, if someone would have been here, the light would be on” I sighed, walking straight for my office, but Matt was faster, he grabbed my hand.
“Seriously Joe, why the hell aren’t you just listening to me?”
He walked with me to my office, staying right where he was, his big hand engulfing mine and I hated myself for loving this feeling so much. He let go of it way too fast as he walked in, motioning me to stay outside. Within seconds his voice sounded though, telling me it was safe to come in.

“Can I help you with something?” Matt asked as he was watching me collect stuff.
“No thank you, I will be done soon, I just need this pile of folders and my external hard drive. We don’t save this information on the server because it’s confidential, I am the only one having all the files, two others have both a part of the files, it might sound like overdoing it, but we need to be careful and with this hard drive I can also answer every little bit of information that is available on our company server.”
He nodded and smiled “You are really good at what you do, huh? Did you always wanted to do something like this?”
I continued gathering files and going through papers I would need, it made it more easy to tell him things.
“I always had a talent for this kind of work, never took any effort when I was studying, but when my mom died, my dad encouraged me to push a little harder, she never even knew I did this good”

Silence fell upon us, I never really talked about my mom, it hurt too much, but somehow I wanted him to know, even though I knew he wouldn’t be really interested. I turned around, bumping into Matt, I never even noticed he walked over.
“Joe…. “ His voice was soft en soothing as he looked down on me “I’m sure your mom would be very proud of you”.
His hand was on my cheek, his thumb softly stroking, for a moment I thought he was going to kiss me, but then he turned away, looking at the box I filled.
“Does… Does this need to come to the mansion?”
“Yeah, with all this and my access to the company server I have to be able to work fairly normal over at your place”
It looked like Matt wanted to say something, but then he just walked for the door
“Are you ready to go?”
I nodded and followed him, he confused me, why was he this nice to me, this interested, I was just a job, him giving me attention only made me more lost in all of this.

Arin’s POV
I watched Jacky do her thing, she was more like her sister than she was letting on. She was in business mode, but friendly and helpful.
I didn’t know why she wouldn’t want others to know that she was doing this.
It was a good thing and she could be proud of what she created here.

She was helping these poor people, she was doing all the jobs necessary, even the dirtier ones.
She wasn’t considering herself too good for any of it, she wasn’t the rich party girl everybody thought of her when you met her first.
I had seen through that right away, but it wouldn’t be easy for others.

I had asked Dean why he was doing this and he told me that it all began when he was a teen and did some bad so he got a few days of social work assigned to him. I knew about that since I made the back-up check on him. But he continued and said that was when he met Jacky for the first time helping out here, and he came back with her, becoming friends and this was where this all started.

Some moments Dean was kissing Jacky’s cheeks or hugging her close to his body, I didn’t really know what to think of that and would ask Jacky as soon as she had a quiet moment, I didn’t want to interfere with her work.
But I kept my eyes on her and all the people surrounding her, I was still also on a job and had to make sure of her safety, or not only Matt would rip my head off but I think Brian would react even worse.
I guess when we came home, the topic wouldn’t be done for me anyway...

Jacky walked towards me looking satisfied with herself and she could be.
“Is everything okay?” She asked me with a smile and I nodded.
“Yes, but Jack can I ask you something?” I asked reluctantly.
“Sure, what is it?” She looked at me with a concerned face.
“You and Dean... what... I mean...” Shit, which way to put it?
“Oh.. Dean and I are best friends, but we used to... well help each other out, if you know what I mean.” Jacky winked at me and wrinkled my nose, I didn’t want to hear all of this… not about her.
“Ieuw. But... I thought you and Brian, were... don’t let me say it.” I begged and she rolled her eyes at me.
“Brian is an ass. I don’t wanna talk about him.” She said stubbornly.
“What did he do now?” I asked and she sighed loudly but finally told me about her fight with Brian.
I had to admit that I could understand Brian’s reaction to some point, but he had gone way too far in calling her names like that.
“Have you thought about him being jealous? Maybe Brian is deeper into this then you thought? How would you react if he would be seeing another girl he used to... have sex with while he was with you?” I asked and saw the wheels turning in Jacky’s head.
“Okay, I’ll give you that. But this is nothing deeper for him, I mean... we said this was about fun, nothing more and he just doesn’t get that Dean and I are also friends... he is my closest friend. I need him, need to talk to him, Arin. Can you understand that?” I nodded and saw the desperation in her face, she needed at least some steady point from her old life, since everything else was taken away from her.
“I asked him to come over tomorrow, Arin. He is my friend, please don’t say no.” She begged and how could someone say no to this woman so I slowly nodded my head but knew this would lead to even more trouble tomorrow.
