Give the kid a chance

Arin’s POV
My day had been busy, with two bosses in the house my work had increased rapidly. Even though Josephine wasn’t technically my boss, I tried to help her where ever I can. These women had a enough rough time as it is and if I could make their life a little easier, I would certainly try. I had been busy all day to try and make an appointment for Josephine with one of her more important customers, she wanted to do it herself, but I was able to convince her that it was so much more professional when you had an assistant to do something for you. I think I had a breakthrough, but I didn’t want to tell her yet before I finally succeeded. All the work had got me hungry and I decided to get to the kitchen to make something to eat for myself.

As I headed for the kitchen I saw Jacky sneaking through the livingroom into the garden. She was wearing a leather jacket and had a backpack on her back. I frowned, what was she doing? I made a turn to the left to follow her and see for myself.
She headed for the pool house and I saw her looking around, she seemed to be looking for something, a way to get out? Why didn’t she tell me, I could have tried to help her. I walked up close to her and finally made myself known to her.

“Where do you think you are going?”

Jacky turned around to me quickly.
“Arin! You scared me half to death! You never saw me here, just turn around and walk away”
“You know I can’t do that”
“But you are my friend, my little brother, we do stuff like this for each other, I need to get out”
Her voice sounded pleading and I knew I had to be strong to not give in to her. I folded my arms over my chest and looked down on her.
“I’m waiting, why are you trying to escape again?”
“I need to be somewhere”
“Then ask Brian to take you there”
An angry look came over her face shortly, after which she regained herself.
“I don’t want him to come, we had a fight, I’m sick of him, I just don’t want to be around him anymore, and I have an appointment, people are counting on me.”
Her eyes were begging me to let her go, but I couldn’t.
“Jacky, you are in danger, if you want to go somewhere Brian can take you, he can keep you safe. If you don’t want to take Brian, I can see what I can do for you, but you have to let me in on what you are doing, where you were going, I will try to help you as much as possible?”

She started telling me where she was headed and my mouth fell open in surprise.
“I never knew you did that!” She looked at me with fire in her eyes
“I’m not a dumb, rich party girl like everyone else seems to think. I take my responsibilities. They are counting on me, I don’t want to let them down”
She looked down to her feet and I walked over to her to give her a hug, one she gladly accepted.
“What if I go with you? Would that be a solution?”
“YES! I would love that! I would really like for you to meet all of them!” A big smile came over her face and this was what I did it for, only two more obstacles to go… Matt and Brian…
“Okay, let me go and ask Matt and Brian”
She sighed “Brian will never agree”
“He has to if I convince Matt, so that will be our first stop”
I guided her back in and walked straight for Matt’s office.
“I will come with you” Jacky stepped forward, ready to head into the office.
“No, let me do this, okay? I will try my hardest and I know exactly which facts to present to convince Matt, I think it will be okay… Just give me a second, okay?”
She nodded and I put my hand on the door to knock “Thank you Arin”

Matt’s POV
I looked over my laptop to Joe, having my eyes on her like always when we were sitting here working.
Or in my case, like before, trying to work.
She was really distracting me, whenever we were in close proximity to each other.
She moved around her desk to the printer and my eyes followed her noticing every little movement, every little sway of her hair, did she notice that a small strand of her hair had slipped out of the business like bun she had on her head?

I pictured me losing her hair out of the bun again, did she know that I liked her hair down better, even though she was rockin the business look like no other.
She would want some of stuff from her home finally I knew that much, she wanted to get home and get some even before we arrived her, but I didn’t give in to her, maybe I should think about that again… after last night, she should get more of her clothing and her private stuff.

I guess she should also get into her office at some point, I haven’t really decided when, maybe I was waiting for her to ask me again, just so I had control of the situation, I could tell her when and where…
Sounding like a control freak, yeah, I know… but nothing is better than all the rains in my hands.

A knock on the door sounded and pulled me out of my thoughts I was about to say ‘come in’ but Joe was faster.
“Come in.” Her voice sounded formal and I narrowed my eyes on her.
“What? It’s my office as well.” She said and Arin put his head in looking with a smile at Joe and then over to me.
“Hey… can I? Do you… have a second?” He asked and I motioned him in.
“It is still my office, Josephine.” I had to clarify that and she just lifted an eyebrow at me and looked back towards her laptop beginning to type and not looking back up again.
“Alright. Sure, come in.” At least Arin had the right sense and waited at the door for me to ask him in.
“Thanks…” He looked a little unsure to Joe and then back at me.
But he seemed to make up his mind and stopped directly at my desk, sitting in one of the chairs.

“What’s going on kid? You look concerned” I asked him and he squirmed a little in his seat.
“It’s about… well.. it’s a little complicated and I know you won’t like to hear it right away… but let me explain, okay?” Arin asked and again turned around to Joe, she set her headphones on, as a sign she wasn’t listening, but I knew she could still hear us.
“Alright, try me, kid.” I said and was curious what would get Arin into this situation.
“Okay, it’s about Jacky.” I lifted my eyebrows at that.
“Jacky? Really?” I asked and Arin nodded then his brows drew together “It’s not that, if you think that.” He quickly reassured and I chuckled.
“Okay, now tell me what you want to tell me.” Arin nodded and breathed deeply in and out.
“Okay, there is this important event for Jacky. She doesn’t want everyone to know, but she trusted me with this… she needs to go there this evening and… well… I wanted to know if she could go.” I frowned, he was trying to hide something I knew it, but couldn’t put my finger on it.

I saw Joe looking at us, when our eyes met, she quickly looked down on her laptop.
I tried to hide the smirk but wasn’t really succeeding. “If she needs to go anywhere she has to take Brian with her.”That was easy solved but Arin shook his head.
“No, she doesn’t want that. She doesn’t want to go with him.” Arin said and I lifted my eyebrows, no fight, huh Gates? Doesn’t sound like that to me now.
“Then I am sorry, Arin, but she cannot leave.” I turned away again but Arin didn’t move so I turn back to him.
“Matt, it’s important for her. Please, can we not, find another solution, something without Brian?” Arin asked and suddenly the door flew open again.

“What do you think you are doing here? Jacky is my assignment, since when do you think you have to right to meddle in jobs?! Where does she even want to go? She didn’t say anything to me?” Brian stood in the office, looking more than pissed at Arin who didn’t really acknowledge him.
“She asked me to go with her, Matt.” Arin said and looked pointedly at me. “She trusts me more than anybody else here. I will go with her and protect her.” Arin said and I had to admit that Arin was doing a fine job in convincing here with me.

Brian stepped forward nearly getting into Arin’s face. “YOU KID, can’t protect her. You are not a bodyguard. Forget that right away, this is just stupid.” Brian let out a small laugh and I had to admit that on one side Brian was right, Arin wasn’t into the bodyguard role, like Zack or Brian, but on the other hand, it was also a trust thing, if Arin was sure, that Jacky would listen to him that was an easier task.

“Matt, tell the kid that he better get back to his phone and concentrate on his work and not on my responsibilities. If Jacky wants to leave, I will go with her or she stays here, easy as that” Brian stepped towards my desk looking at me straight, only waiting for my confirmation.
“She trusts me, I will take the full responsibility tonight. She will listen to me and behave, I will make ground rules with her, if a situation will be too dangerous we will leave and I will call for back-up. I swear to god.” Arin said and fine, I would give the kid a chance, he deserved that much.

“Fine, Arin. I will trust you and your judgment. You take the full responsibility for her and you are in contact with me, if anything happens and you give me an hourly update, I want it all, got it?” I said and Arin eyes widened then he nodded.
“Got it. Thanks, I will.” With that Arin jumped up and left my office and Brian stood before my desk, his mouthing hanging open.
“What the fuck? Are you freaking insane?” Brian asked finally after regained his speech. He seemed furious.
“What? You got an evening off, what do you want? Arin will manage that, don’t be so distrustful in that kid.”
“But she is mine… I mean she is my responsibility, you cannot take her away from me. That is too dangerous, what if something happens? I will go with them, I will not allow that. What is so important that she has to go there and won’t talk to me? What did he say to that?” Brian asked and I frowned.
“Are you questioning my decision? He said it is important for her work. I will take his word for that Brian, sometimes I gotta trust my friends words, as I do with your decision, Arin earns the same trust."
“But not when you put her in danger... She didn’t tell me anything about her work, this is not right...” Brian kept on discussion, not realizing that I have already seen Arin and Jacky leave on the security cameras.

Arin even send me the address they were headed to if there would be any emergency and we had to send someone in.
“Maybe Arin is right, and she doesn’t tell you everything...” I heard a snort from Joe’s directions, she no longer had her headphones on her head and I knew she would listen in as soon as she heard the mentioning of her sisters name.
Brian’s face got even redder and he cursed some more.
“Fuck, I will go to her right now and clear this up.”
"They are already gone for quite a while, Brian... Trust Arin to keep her safe or is something else beneath all this?" I asked him and Brian’s eyes snapped up to mine, he muttered another curse then left my office, the door slamming shut behind him.

And my eyes wandered over to Joe’s waiting for her comment to all of this.
