Brian’s POV
“Yo Zack, grab me a sandwich!” I called over to Zack, who was lying in a chair, playing with his phone at the other end of the room.
“Fuck you” Zack gave me the finger and continued what he was doing.
“Did you see short shit? Maybe he can make me a sandwich” I asked, thinking of a way not to have to do it myself.
“I saw him heading for his ‘lab’, he had a large package delivered, some new gadgets I guess”
I sighed, damn, that wasn’t any good either. Matt was in his office and Arin was walking around the house with his headset on, answering calls as he went. We all gave him crap about the headset at first, but Arin soon proved its value when he was able to help more of us at the same time when we got into trouble again.
Arin had been our go to guy from the beginning and he proved very capable, he was our helpline when we were on jobs. How the guy knew so much was a complete miracle to me, but he always had my back and that was damn good to know. I looked out of the big windows at the back of the house and looked at the large garden, our gardener was mowing the lawn and the pool was being cleaned too. It soon would be done for summer.
We bought this after our first year of business, we had some high profile cases and earned a lot of money, buying a house for all of us seemed like the logical next step. It was more convenient to be together, for jobs, training, business and fun. Because even though we were in business together, we were friends in the first place. The house had all the comforts all of us needed, large rooms for all of us, with separate bathrooms, a large kitchen, a movie theater, training space, living room, game room, a swimming pool and so on and so on. There was an office for Matt, who had been the president of the company since the beginning, he was a natural born leader and the only one of us who could be completely business, next to the hard asses we had to be most of the time.
There was also a large room for Johnny, as he was our gadget man, he needed the room for inventing and testing. He usually ordered standard cameras, mics, electronic listening devices and everything else you could imagine and then made it so much better by adding all this very useful modifications. We could never do a job without Johnny’s help. He provided everything we needed next to our own god given force. Come to think of it… this wasn’t a house anymore, it was more like a mansion.
“Damn, that new stuff that got delivered sure got some potential” Johnny came walking into the room and let himself fall down on the couch next to me.
“But that will have to wait till after our holiday. I mean, I can’t even think of the simplest and easiest thing to modify all of it, I need time off”
“You can say that again” Arin said as he threw down his headset and sat down in one of the recliners “Where are you and Zack going?” Arin looked from me to Zack and back again
“Why do you think we are going on our holiday together?” Arin raised his brows “Well? Aren’t you?”
I shrugged, Zack and I would definitely be going on a holiday together, we always were. We had always been the duo within the company and we didn’t mind. He was a damn good wingman.
Zack and I were the special forces of the company. Now the company had expanded to the size it was at this moment, Matt had withdrawn us from the daily tasks, we had employees for that. We were only sent in when it was a real important job, when he trusted nobody else to do it.
But not now… Now we would finally have a holiday… After all that time of hard work, we would finally have a three week holiday. Nothing but sun, beach, drinks and beautiful women, I would keep myself entertained those few weeks. I looked at Zack who had gotten out of his chair and looked at me with an angry face.
“Damn you, your talking about food has gotten me fucking hungry. I’m making a sandwich”
“Good, make me one too” I grinned. He flipped me off, but I knew he would come back with something to eat for me.
“What are you two doing?” Johnny told us about his plan and just as Arin was about to tell us what had planned his phone rang again.
“Fuck, that this is never quiet, believe me, I will turn it off as soon as Matt declares the holiday!” He growled, but quickly put the small headset in his ear
“Secured Sevenfold, tell me what you need”
That was us… Secured Sevenfold…. For all your security issues.
Matt’s POV
I sat in my office and knew that I had to talk to the guys soon. I had to tell them about the job. I couldn’t lose any more time.
I received the message from Joe this morning that he talked to his daughters yesterday and they weren’t too happy about the news so we had to do some convincing.
I still had some open questions so I decided to call him before talking to the guys.
I dialed Josephs number and waited for him to pick up.
“Matthew?” I heard Joe’s voice.
“Yes, how are you?” I asked him and heard that he was running around, maybe even packing his stuff.
“Well… I’m packing my stuff. Did you talk to your boys?” He asked and sounded serious again.
“Not yet, but I give you my word that I will manage it, Joe. Don’t worry, your girls will be safe.” I had to make sure I kept my word.
I didn’t get a reply from Joe, I sighed. “I promise, Joe it’s a family matter.”
“Alright, I take your word.” Joe sighed heavily. “Thank you.”
“The meeting will take place today around 8, right?” I asked him, I just had to convince my friends.
“Right, I told my girls about it. As you might imagine, they weren’t too happy about it. But they will agree to it, I will make sure of that.” Joe said and I thought about my next questions.
“How much information do your daughters have?”
“Nothing.” Joe barked and I rolled my eyes.
“Joe, I need to know how much we can tell them and how my boys should handle them.” I tried to explain but I knew this would be a tough act.
“The less they know the better. They will think I am on a business trip for a longer time, I tell them I won’t be reachable for them. Don’t tell them, what this really about. I don’t want them to know…”
“But how will we explain that we have to be with them 24/7?” I asked and knew that this wouldn’t be an easy task.
“I talked to them, they know that I am protective of them and that when I am not available, I always want someone to look out for them, they will question that a little, but just tell them I ordered you and you are doing your job. That’s about it.” I sighed.
“Alright, I don’t like the idea of leaving them in the dark, Joe… And no matter what you say I have to tell my men how serious the situation is, they need to know what they are up against.” I wouldn’t back down from that.
“Fine, but keep my girls out of this. They are everything I have, Matt… Keep them safe.” With that Joe hung up and I sighed now was the time to finally talk to the boys and tell them about our new job.
Brian’s POV
I saw Matt walking towards us, he had a serious expression on his face, not like someone who was excited about the holiday that was just around the corner.
“Cheer up, Matt. Vacation time is near!” Johnny yelled but Matt didn’t even react.
I shrugged and wouldn’t care about that anymore, soon I would be out of here.
“Guys, I have to tell you something, would you all come to my office… and tell Zack to be there as well.” Matt announced.
“Why? You want an official goodbye ceremony before we head to our more than earned vacation?!” I joked but Matt didn’t react, which made me suspicious something was wrong.
Arin and Johnny already followed Matt to his office while I walked to the kitchen area trying to find Zack.
“YO ZACK? In big boss office! NOW!” I yelled and waited for a reply.
“ZACK!” I yelled again.
“Coming.” Zack walked towards me and I laid my arm around his shoulders, walking towards Matt’s office.
He sat in his chair, Laptop open and typing, not looking up. Johnny and Arin already sat in their chairs and Zack and I took the last empty seats in the corner.
“I have to tell you something, it’s serious and you won’t like it.” Matt looked at each one of us with a stern look.
“Spill it.” I told him and he nodded, closing his laptop.
“We have a new job, it’s something serious and it will need your full attention.” Matt looked at me and Zack pointedly.
“Sounds good, so after the vacation… when do we start?” Zack asked and Matt shook his head, looking regretful.
“Tonight.”
“Come again” I replied, sure he didn’t just say what I thought I heard him say.
“The first meeting with the client is tonight at 8. You and Zack need to be there and at your best manners. You will meet the client and the persons to protect.” Matt said and I stood up.
“NO, no way.”
“Brian, this is serious, I couldn’t say no.”
“I don’t care…” I replied narrowing my eyes at him.
“Don’t give me that look, Gates. I wouldn’t have said yes if it wasn’t serious. You remember Joseph Thompkins? He is an old family friend, you remember him right?” I remembered him only vaguely, but knew that Matt’s and his family were close.
I nodded and the others did the same. “He made a mistake… I don’t have too much information, but it sounds more than serious. He needs us to protect his daughters.” Matt said and I rolled my eyes.
“Are you kidding me? Not really? We are a security company, for gods damns sake, Matt…” I was pissed, I should postpone or rather forget about my vacation because some girls couldn’t look out for themselves? For real?!
“Not babysitters.” Zacky joined in on my complain.
“Are you not listening to me?” Matt suddenly stood up and anger on his face.
“I am not asking you. I am ordering you! Quit the fucking bullshit, this is serious. I need you to move in with these girls and protect them. THIS IS FAMILY! ARE WE CLEAR?” Matt yelled and I knew that we might have crossed a line, normally we never questioned a job or anything, but this was just ridiculous.
“Who are the girls? I don’t remember them?” Johnny asked and Arin nodded.
“Here.” Matt opened his laptop showing us pictures of two women.
“These are his daughters?” I asked a little confused, they looked so different… hot, no question about that, but these were the girls they had to give up their vacation for… these were the girls they have to move in with?
