Say You'll Haunt Me *ON HOLD*

I Found You Here, Now Please Just Stay For A While

Emilia’s POV

A week had passed since the BBQ at Zacky’s and I hadn’t seen much of the girls, especially Veronika. I had spoken with Tash and Selena and they told me that Veronika had barely left her room. I knew something was wrong so I decided to take her out to lunch today and have a chat. She was my best friend and I’ve known her the longest, so when she’s upset, I know that it’s serious.

Slipping on my heels, I grabbed handbag and keys and left the house. I climbed into my car and headed off toward Roni, Tash, and Selena’s house. Once I arrived, I walked inside to no movement. Veronika’s car was the only one in the driveway so I knew the other wouldn’t be here. Reaching Roni’s room, I barged in without saying anything and jumped on the bed. “Roni, wake up, shithead!” I muttered, hitting lump underneath the blankets.

“Emilia, fuck off,” she groaned.

I rolled my eyes and ripped the blankets off her head. “Get your ass out of bed sweetie. I’m taking you out for a girls’ day. I haven’t seen or spoken to you all week so I know something’s wrong and you’re going to tell me.”

Knowing she wouldn’t win the argument, she grumbled underneath her breath and climbed out of bed, walking into her bathroom and slamming the door.

Yeah, something had really pissed her off.

While she showered, I picked out an outfit for her that I’d knew she’d liked. 10 minutes later, she was out and dressed in her underwear and panties. She saw the shirt I grabbed from the closet and picked it up and threw it to the side.

Well…now I know that it obviously had something to do with Zacky.

Soon she was dressed and we were on our way to the mall. She didn’t really say one word to me but I knew that once I got some coffee in her, she’ll be less grumpy. Finally, we were situated in a corner of Starbucks, coffees in hand, chatting. “So what’s going on? Obviously, it’s got something to do with Baker, considering you threw aside the Vengeance University shirt I picked out.”

Veronika let out a sigh and took a sip of her latte. “Yeah, well as you know I stayed over Zack’s place last week because he was drunk off his ass and had me worried.”

“Right, go on.”

“Well, when he woke up the next morning, he told me why he had been hitting the bottle harder than usual and well I kind of kissed him.”

She just had to say that as I was drinking my coffee didn’t she?

“What?! Are you fucking serious?!” I choked out, once I had finally finished choking.

She nodded and kept quiet. I sighed and looked at her. “What happened after you kissed him?”

“I grabbed my clothes and ran…Evie came to pick me up.”

“Have you spoken to him since?”

She shook her head. “No, I mean he’s messaged me and called me but I haven’t bothered to reply.”

“Why not?”

“I’m scared Lia. I like him but I’m scared to let him in. I’ve built these walls up and I don’t want to tear them down. You know all my relationships in the past have failed. I don’t know what to do, I really don’t.”

“Why don’t you go out with Zacky to dinner?” I asked “Only as friends and see where it goes,” I added watching her facial expression change.

She slid down further into her chair and started nibbling on her bottom lip. I knew that meant she was thinking hard. If she kept it up, I knew she’d start to have an anxiety attack.

“Look all I’m saying is think about it, Roni. You deserve to be happy, sweetie. You know that I know that, everyone knows that. Now, take a deep breath and calm yourself down. No panic attacks.”

She nodded and took a deep breath, slowly letting it out. “C’mon, let’s go spend some money,” I said with a smile.

And off we went to have some much needed retail therapy.

“So tour’s coming up, are you excited?” Veronika asked as we drove along the main street.

I nodded. “Yeah, I’m super excited. Just wish it was already here. Are you excited?”
“Not as excited as I was before.”

“Because of Baker?”

“Yep,” she replied with a sigh.

I reached over and squeezed her hand lightly, giving her a small smile. “It’ll be okay Veronika. I honestly think everything will work out. He’s a great guy. You two would make a great couple.”

She shrugged and didn’t reply. I knew she wanted to drop the subject so I left it at that. “Wanna have a movie session at my place?” I asked. “We can watch your favorite.”

“Return of the Living Dead?” She asked, with a smile.

“Of course honey.”

She clapped her hands together like she was a 5-year-old in a candy store. “Awesome but first let’s stop at Walmart. I want to have some wine and popcorn.”

I nodded in return and took a left turn toward Walmart. I loved Veronika, and I would do anything to make sure she was happy, even if it was watching her all-time favorite movie for the billionth time.

Later that day, Veronika had passed out from all the wine she had and it was upsetting to see her resorting to that. I let out a sigh and was about to wake her drunk ass up to go sleep it off in one of the guest rooms when I heard the doorbell ring. Leaving Veronika in the lounge room, I walked to the front door and opened it to find Zacky himself standing there with a worried expression on his face. “Hey Emilia,” He spoke, giving me a sad smile.

“Hey Baker, what are you doing here?”

“Um…I was wondering if you knew where Veronika was? I went to her place but she wasn’t there and she hasn’t replied to any of my texts for the last week. I’m kind of worried about her.”

I bit my bottom lip, debating whether to let him inside or not but in the end, I stepped aside and motioned for him to come inside.

He smiled and stepped in, stopping in the foyer just behind me. “What’s going on Zack?” I asked, shutting the door.

He shrugged his shoulders and let out a sigh. “I don’t know Emilia. That’s why I’m over here. She stayed over after the night at my house and she kissed me before grabbing her clothes and racing out of the house.”

“Look I like you Zacky, I really do. You’re an amazing guy and you and Veronika would be amazing together but her love life hasn’t been the best. She’s either had the guy cheat on her or they leave her because she wasn’t good enough. I’ve known her since pre-school and I will do anything for her. She’s built a huge wall up and has become very guarded, she’s really scared to let you in. Take it easy with her, ease into it, ok?”

Zacky nodded, nibbling on his bottom lip. “Yeah, that’s good advice. Thanks, Emilia.”

I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. “Good, also I’m quite glad you’re here too by the way.”

“And why’s that?” He asked, pulling away from me.

“Because…you can help me with Veronika. She’s passed out in the lounge room, too much wine. She’s been feeling a little down in the dumps since the kiss.”

Zacky nodded. I started to follow him into the lounge room when the doorbell rang once more.

“Go ahead,” Zacky spoke. “I’ll get Veronika and look after her. It’s the least I could do.”

I smiled. “Thanks, Zack, the first guest room is the first door on the right upstairs.”

He nodded and walked off to the lounge room to grab Veronika. I opened the front door and found Brian standing there with a bottle of wine in one hand and a bag of food in the other. “Hey honey,” he spoke with a grin.

“Hey, come on in,” I replied, stepping aside to let him in.

“I hope you don’t mind me dropping by but I bought some beer and I wanted to cook some food for you so I bought everything to make Italian.”

“Sounds good. Kitchen’s just through there.”

Brian kicked off his shoes and walked down the hallway to the kitchen. A huge thump could be heard from upstairs and I let out a giggle. “What the hell was that?” Brian asked, looking up at the ceiling.

“That would be Zacky and Veronika. Veronika had a bit too much wine so Zacky’s looking after her.”

Brian nodded, unpacking the bag. “Well, so he should after the other night.”

“Yeah, well what happened the morning after is the reason Roni’s passed out drunk tonight.”

He looked up and raised his eyebrows at me. “Yeah, I know. I spoke to Zacky about it. He came over the other day, practically crying, thinking he had done something for Roni to ignore his calls and texts.”

“Yeah, well I hope they get it sorted soon.”

Brian nodded in agreement and began to cut the eggplants. I opened the wine and poured us both a glass before jumping up on the kitchen counter and watching him work. “It’s rude to stare y’know,” he murmured with a smirk, looking up at me.

I giggled and sipped on my wine. “Well, it’s hard when you have a tall muscular man covered in tattoos, cooking your dinner. I’m struggling to not drool as it is.”

Ducking his head in amusement, he shook his head and continued to cut up the rest of the vegetables. After a few more minutes of just watching him cook, I hopped off the counter and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I’m gonna get a movie ready. Any specific requests?”

Brian shook his head. “Whatever you want baby,” he replied with a smile.

I grinned and walked off to the lounge room. I knew exactly what I wanted to watch so Brian better not complain. I picked the movie off the shelf and slipped it into the DVD player. Arms wrapped around my waist which made me scream. “Johnny. H fucking Christ Brian, I will kill you if you do that to me again!”

He chuckled and pressed a kiss behind my ear. “What movie did you pick beautiful?”

Spinning around and wrapping my arms around his neck, I smiled up at him. “I picked Batman. 1989 version.”

I swear his eyebrows went up to his hair line when I said that. “What?” I questioned.

“Emilia, look we might as well skip the first date and go straight to the wedding day because I’m gonna marry you.”

I snorted and fell against Brian’s chest in hysterics. “Are you serious?” I asked, once I had finally composed myself enough to talk.

He nodded and smiled. “Yep. The 1989 version of Batman is my absolute favorite.”

“Okay then. I guess we better start planning the wedding,” I teased.

He pulled me against his chest and caressed my cheek. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered.

I blushed and ducked my head which only made Brian lift my head and smile down at me. “Emilia, don’t you hide from me,” he whispered, pressing a swift kiss on my cheek.

Smiling, I pulled away and collapsed on the couch, slipping my shoes off in the process. A ding went off in the kitchen and a few minutes later, Brian was back with two plates of Eggplant Parmigiana. Man, did it look amazing. “Mm, looks so good. Thanks, Bri,” I said, with a grin.
He smiled in return and took a seat beside me. I honestly didn’t see any problem with eating in the lounge room just this once. Normally I hated not eating at a table but right now I couldn’t be screwed setting the dining table, I was just too tired and curling up on the sofa with Brian didn’t seem like such a bad idea.
