Life According To Amber Lynn Haner

The Principal Hates Me

*Amber's POV*

The next morning was when Dad was going into the school to meet with the principal, Mr. Baxter. Nervous, was an understatement to how I felt. I wouldn't eat breakfast for fear that I might puke it back up, and I never turn down food. That was the old me, the me that was neglected by my aunt.

"Relax, Amber, you're over-stressing yourself to the point where I'm really worried about you, and you're going to give yourself another panic attack. Just calm down and breathe." Dad and I were sitting in the car in the school parking lot at half past eight in the morning, and I was freaking out like hell, whereas he was totally fine with everything.

"But he hates me enough as it is, maybe we should just forget it ever happened, and let it slide." I said quickly, as my nerves cause me to speak a million miles an hour.

"No way, I'm going in to talk to him. I arranged it with the secretary when we were at the hospital yesterday over the phone, so he knows we're coming. If he hates you then that's his problem, but I'm not letting you get beat up at school and saying nothing. Not a hope in hell."

"But.."

"No buts. This's being sorted out today, end of story. Now just keep breathing, you're starting to turn purple." I began to breathe a bit better, but my heart was still racing like crazy. I had the shakes too, and all I needed was sugar. Luckily, I keep a bag of Haribos in the glovebox for whenever I get hungry or just for whatever reason, so I sat there munching them to stop the shaking. It worked, luckily.

-----

Mr. Baxter drove in at 8:45am, and then I began freaking out all over again. It had gotten to the point where I took a panic attack, and I was also in floods of tears. I've never been this scared to go into school, and I really don't like this feeling.

Being the shaky mess that I was, my knees had turned into jelly, and I couldn't even stand up straight. I probably looked extremely drunk, but I was 100% sober, I swear. I refused to go into the school, resulting in Dad grabbing me by the hand and bringing me in there. My nerves had hit a fever-pitch, and I held his hand so tight that I thought I'd break my wrist.

We met the secretary at the doorway, and he brought us into the principal's office, and even offered us tea. If it's one thing I've learned since I started living at Dad's place, is that you never turn down free tea and/or coffee. If somebody offers to make you a hot, caffeine-induced drink, why should you refuse. We gladly accepted the free tea.

"What's the problem now, Mr. Haner?" The principal asked, taking off his glasses and setting them down on his desk.

"What seems to be the problem? Are you blind? Have you seen my daughter's face, and the fact that she had to get two sets of stitches done yesterday because one of your students decided to punch her?!." Dad got all defensive, and I gripped his hand tighter. I had to chew my lip to stop myself from crying.

"I see it, and I see that she's right as rain now, yes? I don't see why you're coming to me now, as it happened yesterday."

"No, she's not "right as rain". And the fact that you're just going to let this go is appalling. She got beat up, and for standing up for a friend. There's a kid here that's giving people a hard time, and I think you should do something about it."

"Mr. Haner, since your daughter has started here, you've visited me three times already. If you're not happy with how things run around here, I think you should transfer your daughter to a different school."

"Hold on a second, I've come in to speak to you for good reasons. The first reason was that Amber was given a detention that she didn't even deserve, the second was that the levels for some of the classes she was in weren't right for her, and the third reason was that a particular teacher was giving her a hard time. If you don't like the fact that I want what's good and right for my daughter then I suggest you take it up with me personally. She doesn't have to suffer for no reason, that's ridiculous."

"Look, the most I can do is give the student a month's worth of detention, as it's not a serious case. Will that satisfy?"

"No, it won't. He busted her face, and you think that's not serious? That's at least a suspension, if not expulsion."

"I can't suspend or expel a student for this minor case, that's out of the question."

"Whats out of the question is that you're not taking this seriously. What if one of your kids got beaten up at school? I know you'd be like a bullet sorting it out as fast as you could, so why can't you do the same for my daughter?" Dad was really pissed off at this stage, and I was still a nervous wreck. The free tea didn't help.

"I can extend the punishment to a two month in/school suspension for the offending student, but that's about all I can give." Mr. Baxter sighed, and then he told the secretary to send Buck down to the office. As soon as Buck came to the office, and once he saw that Dad was here, he went all stiff and scared senseless. "Mr. Casadee, I see you had a bit of an issue with Ms. Haner here, and because of that, you have a two month in-school suspension, understood?"

"Yes, sir." Buck groaned, and muttered a few swears under his breath. We could all leave then, but I wasn't going to school. The doctor told me to take two days off so that my stitches set in properly, so I just get to go home.

"Im warning you kid, touch my daughter again, or do anything that hurts her, and I'll deal with you myself. Got it?" Dad said lowly and sternly to Buck once we were out of ear shot. Buck gulped and nodded, before nearly running away to his locker. "Alright, Monkey, we're off to Walmart. We're out of chocolate milk, and that there is a disaster in itself."

"Oh my gosh, you're right, that's a disaster and a half! We literally NEED chocolate milk, it's a necessity." I gasped, and we headed out to the car.

-----

When we came home from Walmart and put the shopping as way, it was only noon, so we ended up going over to see. pop, Nana and McKenna for a while. Dad was still seething with anger at Mr. Baxter, and once Pops, Nana and McKenna found out, they were too.

"I mean, who does he think he is?" Nana said, making what must've been the fifth round of tea.

"That's what I was thinking! He isn't the same principal that was there when I was, so I don't know what this other guy's actually like, apart from what you've told us. What an absolute douche, is all I can say." McKenna muttered, and I agreed silently. I've been quiet, just silently listening.

"You're awful quiet, Princess. Is everything ok?" Pops asked me, and I nodded and yawned slightly. I was extremely tired.

"She's exhausted, because all she did this morning was worry, and she had two panic attacks. It's tired her out, and she slept on the way over here." Dad stated, and I smiled slightly. He wasn't wrong.

"You shouldn't worry yourself so much, dear. It's not healthy." Nana sighed, handing me a mug of tea. I nodded once again, drinking my tea so I could stay awake. I was falling asleep again.

Needless to say, I slept for a bit while we were at Pops's place, and even slept on the way home. I was in a bad state, and you could see it clear as day.

Noooooo you can't restart. I love this fic just the way it is. ;~; you're an amazing writer. Don't think differently. Everyone has their insecurities. I'm insecure about my writing as well, but you're amazing at writing and 100 times better than any other people whose fics I read.
