(Love) Contract

Brian’s POV

It was late at night or early morning, whichever way you wanted to put it, when we arrived at our first destination.
The drive there had been quiet, we drank some beers and caught up with some story’s. Tara was sitting beside me the entire time, she didn’t say much and I knew she was still worried about the whole situation.
I think our talk had eased her mind a little, even if I didn’t know if we would keep it that way, I still agreed to her.
She didn’t want to let it come too far, being close to someone always meant feelings could get involved, on my part I knew there weren’t any more feeling then lust and friendship, but maybe she was afraid there would be more.

But something else made me a little suspicious, to be honest…
Matt was talking to Tara and I could see by the look in his eyes, that we was checking her out. I didn’t say anything because, hell… she was nice to look at, but since we are acting here on his wish to be a couple he should better keep his eyes and hands to himself.
Was he interested in Tara in any way? Or was it just because she was here?
I should keep an eye on him, because… and this wasn’t the first time I had this feeling.

“Alright, everybody get out. Grab your bags and let’s sign into the hotel.” Jason announced and the door of the bus opened. He held is hand out and helped Tara climb outside, I was the second last, Matt behind me.
Maybe I should just see what Matt would say when I would talk to him about Tara, just confront him.
See how he would react, and on his reaction I could see why he really acted that way.

“Jason, will you show Tara to our room? I will be coming a moment later, got a couple of things to discuss with Matt for the show tomorrow?” I asked when we all had our bags in hand.
“Sure, come, sweetie. You must be tired?” Jason laid his arm around Tara but I saw her turning around and looking at me quizzically, I gave her a smile and a nod and she went with Jason towards the entrance.
“You want to ask something?” Matt turned towards me.

I waited until all the others were gone into the hotel and stayed with Matt outside.
“What’s going on between you and my girl?” I asked straight without showing him any feelings.
“What? What do you mean?” Matt looked confused.
“You and Tara, what’s going on there?” I asked again and Matt narrowed his eyes.
“Nothing, why would you ask?”
“I just got this feeling that you are eyeing my girlfriend a little too much, Matt.” I told him and waited for his reaction.
“What are you talking about, Brian? First she is not your…” He turned around looking if somebody is listening “She is not your real girlfriend. Second, I am not eyeing her. I was just talking to her, what is wrong with you, Gates?” He seemed offended.
“Nothing is wrong with me, but it’s your plan. I don’t want to fucking risk the plan because you are lusting after my girl. And you should remember that she is my girl, officially or not.. so keep your hands and eyes to yourself.”
Matt sighed “I don’t know what you are implying here? I am not risking anything, if you are not interesting and caring enough to talk to your ‘girlfriend’ that is not my fault. And you can’t freaking forbid anyone to look or talk to her, you are behaving like this is real…” Matt stopped and looked at me his head held a little to the side.

Matt’s POV

“Do you have feelings for her? Did you… and her…?” I asked Brian and felt a little insecure if I really wanted to know the answer.
Maybe I should try and get a chance to also hear what Tara was thinking about it, fuck this was getting worse then I expected.
“No, we are friends. Or well.. don’t turn everything around. We are good together and it’s my job to act as her boyfriend but I cannot do that if you are getting in the way, Matt. You are always getting in the way, so stop fucking around and keep your distance!” Brian yelled the end and sounded pissed.
What is wrong with him now?
“What are you even talking about? Fine, I think Tara is attractive, there I said it, you wanted to hear that? We had this talk before. I will not risk the plan and I will not do anything about it, okay? Is that what you wanted to hear? Why are you so nervous about this all of a sudden?” I asked him and knew I was lying to my best friend right now, because could I really keep my hands of Tara if I had the chance?
She was like a magnet which pulled me towards her without even noticing myself.
“It’s not only me, Jimmy knows something is going on. Fuck, this was a stupid idea. We shouldn’t have taken her along. Jimmy already asked me about everything… Just… fuck off.”
“You are being an asshole. Maybe its best we head to bed, you are not thinking clearly.” I told him and thought the same about myself, about both being and asshole and not thinking clearly.
Why didn’t I tell him that Tara and I had… well something at least going on… maybe because I was afraid to hear he would say the same?
Maybe because I didn’t like the thought that in the end he would be now sleeping in her bed and she wouldn’t resist his advances?!
Maybe because I would like to be the one, going to her bedroom now, convincing her of my benefits.
Losing myself in her bed and body, damn I wished I had more time with her…
Was Brian really falling for her and that’s why he acted that way or was it something different?
I knew Jimmy was suspicious but I hadn’t done anything during this trip to make anyone notice that I had a thing for her, so why was Brian this way and what did he mean with getting in the way?

Brian had stormed off and I got slowly in behind him, didn’t really wanted to have another awkward moment with him in the elevator, maybe he was just pissed because Tara had rejected him?
That made me smile a little, but I knew Brian better than that, he wouldn’t accept a no from a woman.

I grabbed my keycard at the reception and went to my room, out in the corridor I saw Brian opening his door, our eyes met and he turned away.
“Good night, Brian!”
“Yeah..” Was his only reply before disappearing in his and Tara’s room and closing the door.
I sighed, Brian was complicated, that was nothing new… I just hoped these small festivals wouldn’t be too much for everyone in this situation.
But Brian was behaving a lot better since Tara was at his side, so it was the right idea… maybe I should really talk to Tara and ask if Brian made any hints or talked to her about something that I needed to know?

On the other hand, if I would take a moment and talk to Tara alone and Brian would see that he would assume something else was going on…
Fuck…
Or should I ask Jason to talk to Tara, I mean everybody already knew or thought Jason and Tara were friends so that wouldn’t rouse any new problems.
I called Jason to check the situation with him.
“Matt? I want to sleep…” I heard Jason groan.
“I know, I got a question for you.” I asked and I heard even breathing from the other line.
“JASON!” I yelled
“What?” Jason sounded shocked “Don’t do that! I nearly got a heart attack!”
I chuckled, “You fell asleep, ass.”
“Talk fast or it will happen again.” Jason replied annoyed and I grinned.
“Fine, I need you to talk to Tara tomorrow, we can go through the details before that, but I wanted to ask you this ahead.”
“So this is not really a question, I assume?” Jason asked.
“Not really, but let’s pretend it is, will you?” I heard Jason sigh.
“About? And will you let me sleep when I agree?” Jason asked and I grinned.
“Yes… her and Brian. I want to know if there are feelings involved, but we can talk tomorrow again, get some rest and thanks man.”
“Yeah yeah… good night.” I hung up and went to my bed I didn’t bother unpacking my things, we wouldn’t stay here long anyway.
