Secret Surprise

Brian’s POV
“Alright, are you guys ready? Got all your stuff? We need to move if we want to be there before the girls arrive.” Matt looked at us and I checked my pockets and bag for the third time now.
“Are you okay, Brian?” Arin asked behind me.
“Shit, where is the box? Where is the-” I patted my jacket.
“Chill out, dude. I got it.” Zack replied beside me.
I sighed in relief, damn. I would be a nervous wreck by the time we would arrive.
We went over to the Van waiting outside, loaded our stuff in and drove over to the Hard Rock Café Amsterdam. It’s been a while since we have been here, never even played here before, but I liked the thought to make this mine for a special occasion.
It was something different then all the other had done.
Johnny was the first one to propose Nessa on a vacation, we got the picture messages from them, showing us the proposal ring on her finger and him showing his thumbs up.
Silly couple.
I know since Matt had to ask Kim twice, he had done it both time without an audience.
Arin had asked Rye at a family meeting, lucky ass that she hadn’t said no.
And Zack had done it also in a quiet moment, but he was the only sneaky bastard not telling us what he had planned.
They had been backstage, after one of our shows in Meike’s home town, he arranged for us to play there and after the show was done he went down on one knee asking her.
But it wasn’t my style, I needed the big announcement I guess, but now that I thought about it maybe it would have been better only us two.
“We are here.” Matt announced and we all climbed out and were ushered through the back entrance to prepare ourselves.
“Ah man, Amsterdam. I love it. No wonder you and Kim are having a house here.” Johnny announced looking around.
“Yeah, perfect second home.” Matt nodded and I tried to concentrate on their conversation but always my thoughts returned to Leyla.
What was she doing now? Was she having fun with her friends?
Does she have a clue what was going on?
Could the girl’s keep this secret?

We prepared the stage ourselves, it felt pretty much like the early days, good thing was that it was still pretty empty inside and since there was no announcement that we would be playing here no one really seemed to care or know us.
I tried to pull out my mic and with my sweaty hands I nearly dropped it.
Damn it, what was wrong with me? I was never nervous and especially not on stage, or well even if I was I never let it show.
Someone clapped me on the bag and I saw Matt’s tall frame standing beside me.
“Bro, what’s wrong with you? Stage fright?” Matt grinned, he really enjoyed this, right?!
“No, thank you. I just need my guitar on stage and I will be fine.” I shrugged off his arm and put the mic back on its place.
“You look a little green, Gates. You sure you wanna do this?” Zack asked also a grin on his face.
“Fuck off. Alright?”
“Oh wait… guys we need to get into the back. I just received a message from Mei, they arrived and will be coming inside in a few minutes.” Zack announced looking at his phone.
“Damn, it’s so late already?” I looked around and saw that I was standing alone on stage and the other had left already.
The front door opened and I quickly ran off the stage, to not ruin the complete effect of the surprise.
“That’s was close Gates.” Johnny stood beside me and all the other guys came towards as holding the curtain of the stage to the side so we could watch the girl’s walk in.
“Damn, look at my wife. She looks wonderful.” Johnny grinned.
“I can’t look at your because mine is stealing all the attention.” Matt replied with an even sillier grin.
Arin made a step forward, “Back off, kid. You will get to your finance soon enough. First the work, later hopefully the celebration.” Matt announced.
I couldn’t really concentrate on the words they were speaking when my eyes finally found the red haired beauty in a fantastic new dress that I haven’t seen on her before.
She thought I didn’t pay attention to her outfits, but that wasn’t true, she just looked phenomenal in each and every one of them, maybe I should have told her that more often?
“Brian? BRIAN?” Matt roused me from my thoughts and pulled me away from the side of the stage.
“What?”
“Stop the daydreaming, here some of the staff showed us a room adjoining to the one where the girls will be going to, they will surprise her with a cake.” Matt pulled me behind him.
I saw Zack, Arin and Johnny already looking through the window on the other side of the room.
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to youuu, Happy Birthday our dear Leyla….” All the girls were standing around Leyla singing.
I smiled looking at them, Meike was holding the cake towards her.
“Hella made this one especially for you, she was very sad she couldn’t be here, but she will call you later today.” Meike announced and I saw Leyla smiling even more.

“It’s about time. We should get on stage and then… let the show begin.” Matt announced.
I looked over at Zack, my nervousness came back full force now and I really hoped I wouldn’t swallow my tongue or fall on stage or something.
“You really want us to play these songs?” Arin asked again. I knew he wasn’t too comfortable playing the City of Evil Album, but I knew that Leyla loved them and since we didn’t play them too often nowadays I just wanted to give her a little treat.
“Yeah, kiddo. Keep up with the old one’s this one time.” Zack grinned at him.
“Zack you got the-” I turned towards him.
“Yes, I got it, don’t worry.” Zack patted the side of his jacket and I nodded, then I tried to calm my nerves by breathing deeply in and out and whisked my sweaty hands on my pants.
“LETS GO!” Matt yelled suddenly and went on stage.
We followed him and without any announcement we started to play our first song.
I tried not to look at the table with the girls, or I would totally lose all control and ability to play the songs right.
I looked over at my band mates, Zack was winking exactly into the direction I tried not to look, Matt smiled even wider during his singing and Johnny, well Johnny… I shook my head and tried to keep up with the tempo of the song and not thing too much of what was about to come…

Leyla’s POV
The drive over to the Hard Rock cafe, the welcome with the amazing cake, this night couldn’t have been any better, well, except if Brian had been here. But to be honest, the girls had gone out of their way to give me my special night. It was just unbelievable to see how special these girls had become to me. I just wished that if things would ever go wrong with Brian, I would be able to stay in touch with them. It would be weird though, if Brian’s new girl would join the group.

I shook my head, what the hell was I doing? I was already broken up with Brian in my head and as far as I know we hadn’t even reached that point yet. Why was I ruining this for myself? I looked around my group of friends. I loved them for this and I loved my party day, it had been the best!

After the cake we got to a table and I saw a set up at a stage a little ahead. Ah, there would be some live music, nice. I took my seat, it was with its back to the stage, but I guess I could always turn around if the band was any good. I joined the conversation that was already full on at our table, when I heard the first notes of “The Wicked End”.
Kim and Meike looked at each other with smiles on their faces
“Was this your big surprise for the night? Us walking into an Avenged Sevenfold tribute night? The guys don’t even play this live” I said with a smile on my face already half way turned around to see the band.
“They do tonight” Kim replied staring past me, looking at the stage, a big grin on her face.
I quickly turned around to be caught in Brian’s stare immediately, I gasped “Brian”
I felt a hand on each of my shoulders, one from Kim and one from Meike “Surprise!”

Brian looked at me and a slight smile came over his face, before he turned away his gaze to look at his playing hands again, he was blushing, I could see it, all the way from here and I was just wondering why he studied his fingers this much, normally he would just play, he didn’t need to watch. They started another song in the meantime and I was so preoccupied by everything that was happening around me,that I couldn’t even make out which song it was.
Matt was winking at us, or better said, at Kim, those two were just ... it was almost to intimate to look at, same goes for Meike and Zack. I guess having a kid, or being pregnant of one, didn’t change anything in the lust department. Johnny was making funny faces at Nessa, just like he always was and I saw Arin to concentrated on the drums to notice the glowing Rye. These songs must be hard for him, I know he didn’t really like to play them.

And in the midst of all that love of my friends and their better halves, was my man, the one I loved so dearly. I could hardly believe he was here. We fought so hard over it, and now he was just here! Was it all part of the plan? To surprise me? I looked at him, all concentrated on playing, hardly looking over to the audience, or me, at all. That all changed the minute they started playing “Seize the day” and Brian looked up to me, just before he started his solo. His eyes were full of love and I felt my cheeks heat up. This look was only meant for me, and it seemed like we were the only two in the room. He played the solo perfectly, like he always did, and beside all the love he was sending my way, I saw the hurt in his eyes, the hurt that was always there when he played this one, the hurt that was caused by Jimmy dying. I waited for him to get his full attention back to me, when I mouthed “I love you”. A beautiful smile graced the handsome face.

The song was ended and Matt started talking “I hope you all liked this surprise mini show, we always love to come to Amsterdam, to the Hard Rock cafe, but as much as we love it here, we didn’t come here without a good reason. All our wives are in the audience”
The crowd cheered and looked at our table immediately, Matt continued
“And it’s the birthday of one of those special ladies, dear Leyla, congrats sweetie!” He pulled out his dimpled smile as he spoke directly to me. I heard Kim inhale deeply next to me.
“I hope you had the best of days and I hope we arranged to make it a little better by playing your favourite songs, but we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t have one last surprise up our sleeves. Brian, would you please do the honours?” Matt waited for Brian to take the centre stage, but he wasn’t moving. Zack walked over to him and pushed him to the middle. Meike giggled lightly next to me.
“Brian? Come on!” Matt encouraged him and the crowd was applauding when Brian decided to finally take the mic from Matt.

“Leyla, I know you were mad at me for missing your birthday, but I guess I made that up to you, by showing up anyway” Brian started with a little joke, the audience chuckled lightly.
“I really wanted to surprise you today, because you are really special to me. From the minute you started refusing to go on a date with me, I knew I needed to have you. Lucky for me you decided I was good enough for you and I was able to call you mine.” He was only talking to me and I just couldn’t believe he was here, taking the stage, what the hell was happening.
“Baby, could you please come a little closer?”
I got up from my chair and walked over to the stage, finding a spotlight pointed at me. Brian got off the stage and walked towards me, leaving the microphone with Matt.
“Sweetheart, I have loved you from the moment you made me fuck up that solo. I like your passionate Brazilian roots and the way you use those roots to fight with me, but most of all, love me. Your love for music was what got us together and will be the bond that binds us. But most importantly, I love you like I never loved anything in the world and I never want to be without you again. These other fuckers have already labelled their women and I think it’s about time I tell the world that you are mine and no one else’s” Zack handed Brian a little purple velvet box. Was this what I thought it was?! Was he really?

Brian got down on one knee and grabbed my hand, holding the little box in the other
“Leyla, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me and you would make me so so happy if you would be my wife”
I heard the girls behind me hold their breaths and it was only then that I noticed I was doing the same. I saw Brian looking up at me with an expectant look “Well, would you?” he asked again impatiently.
I loved this man, more than anything in the world. There was only one answer possible, one right answer

“Yes! I will!”

Brian put the ring on my finger and then jumped up to swirl me around in his arms. The audience was clapping and cheering and in my twirl around the room I saw all the guys holding on to their significant others. Everyone was smiling and looking happy.

When Brian had finally put me down, he pushed away a strain of my hair out of my face and cupped my face before he pulled me into a mind-blowing kiss. “I love you so much, I’m sorry for putting you through this” Brian whispered
“I thought you were cheating, you ass” I pushed against his shoulder playfully.
“I wasn’t! I’m so sorry, I was so heartbroken the past few days! I wanted to run to you last night, you were so close and I couldn’t see you, it was killing me.”
I looked at the handsome face of the man that was my complete life “You are so cute”
“And sexy I might hope”
I giggled “That too”
“You wanna go out of here?” I nodded
“My hotel is right across the street” I said to him
“Let’s go then!” he grabbed my hand and wanted to drag me outside
“Let’s say goodbye to the others first” we walked back to our table and received congratulations from all of them. Brian started tugging my arm already and I actually agreed with him.

I couldn’t believe I was finally saying what I was about to say
“My fiancé and I are leaving, see you all tomorrow!”
