Carry On

My eyes drifted in and out into a regretful sleep.

"Darlin', you've been here all day, all night. I'm probably gonna be here this time tomorrow. Come back then"

"No, pop I'm not leaving"

"I'll stay Ren," Brian mentioned bending down to my height.

"Yeah, you're husband needs to stay for a drink with me"

"No, really, I don't want to leave"

"Listen to me Ren," Brian snapped. "It's half 11, Zack has Gracie still and he has no idea you're hear. There isn't any signal here, he doesn't know. Go stay with him, he's gonna be the best person for you right now"

"Listen to the kid, Ren" grandad moaned. "Go!"

I looked at them both equally and thought hard. "Alright," I tutted. "I'm coming here in the morning, alright? As soon as me and Gray are ready I'm here!"

"Ok," Brian kissed my cheek and brushed my hair away. "Get some sleep, don't stay up all night talking" the way he said that wasn't right. He suspected things. I had a feeling he was purposely setting me up in situations I didn't want to be in. What was with that?

"I won't," I frowned. "Night pop, don't get too drunk" I chuckled. "Take care of him Bri"

"I promise" they both said symmetrically.

"Love you!" I told them leaving the hospital room.

...

I quietly knocked on Zacks door and peaked through the window. He quickly opened topless, half asleep.

"Jesus, I was worried about you" he rubbed his eyes and adjusted them at me. His tired face turned into worry, and he soon pulled me in for a warm hug. "Is it him again?"

Zack made me us hot chocolate, and we both sat either end of the sofa with a warm blanket covering us. I explained to him, well, tried too - and he held my hand constantly.

"I never knew you were so close," he said quietly.

"Yeah, well. We were before he retired. I still keep constant contact with him. It was kinda sweet he never told me he was coming down, but I do wish he would have mentioned the blackouts" I sighed.

"I don't blame him. A man like that fends for himself. He doesn't want his family worrying for him"

"Yeah but, it's me"

"So.. is, that it then? Y'know, you're grandad"

"Yeah" I cried silently. "The doctors says he isn't coming out"

"Right," he nodded. "Oo, I know what will make you smile"

"Go on?"

"Here," Zack passed me an A3 sized drawing that I presume, Gracie did. It had everyone on it. Me, Brian, Zack, Jimmy, Johnny, mom and Matt badly drawn. "Cute huh?"

"Yeah" I smiled.

"See," he chuckled leaning in to kiss my cheek. "Well, Gracie is in bed in one of my tshirts. I presume you're stopping overnight too?" he laughed. "You want a tee to sleep in?"

"No, I'm alright" I shrugged.

"She's in the room next to the bathroom"

"Ok, thanks" I nodded. We walked up the stairs, him lacking behind me a little. I stopped outside of the room Gracie was in and watched as Zacky went into his room. "Zacks," I mentioned quietly.

"Yeah?"

"Can I sleep with you?"

"Course," he smiled briefly.

I nodded solemnly and quickly saw myself to Gracie. I kissed her head lightly and whispered goodnight. Zack was already tucked up in bed by the time I got in there. He gave me a smile before switching out his bedside lamp.

"Hey, Zacks" I whispered.

"Mmhm?"

"You're alright with me aren't you?" I asked. "Me and Brian moving on a little? I wouldn't live with myself if I'm constantly hurting you"

"I'm fine"

Zacks POV

How could I lie like that too her? I was ready to do anything for her and Brian to just stop everything. I know that she loved me, but as her friend. The only reason she was here was because I can support her, like I should has her bestfriend, I just don't know how longer I can take this.
