Hostage

Matt’s POV

“You wanna head over to the police? I can bring you?!” Brian suggested but I shook my head.
“Nah, thanks. But could you just bring me home, so I can get my car and you know… change into my clothes… I don’t wanna sound ungrateful, but your shirts don’t fit me and I don’t wanna run around with a belly top.”
“Haha.. yeah, alright. Come on, I’ll bring you home. Oh by the way, Zack, Johnny and Arin called.
They wanted to know when they could come over… or if you’ll give them a call back.”Brian said and I sighed.
“Yeah.. I might need a new phone first, but just tell them I’ll be busy for at least the next two days to get everything back in order and after that they’ll can come over or call.. or whatever.” Brian nodded and we drove over to my house.
I realized that I didn’t even have my keys… shit, I couldn’t get into my own house.
“Searching for these?” Brian held my keys out to me.
“Yeah, where do you get them from?” I asked with a frown.
“The guy from the gym you always went to found them under one of the training tools and Zack picked them up. Must have lost them during your abduction?!” Brian shrugged.
“Right.” I nodded, I never even thought about that… I knew they took my cell phone, cause they contacted Brian and the others but haven’t thought about this.

We arrived at my house and I opened the door, “Should I come with you?” Brian asked and looked at me expectantly.
“Nah, thanks. I’ll give you a call if I need anything.” I told him and Brian nodded a little uncertain.
“Alright, will you… come over later, for dinner or something? I think Chelle would be happy, we could call Val as well…?” Brian suggested and I thought about that for a moment.
“I think I need to talk to Val alone first… I don’t think that this would be a good idea…” I started but Brian shook his head.
“I will tell Chelle to cook something, or better order something for us. And you just give me a call to invite Val or not… but as soon as Val knows you will be there, she will be there, just so you know. They are still sisters.” Brian grinned.
“I know.. alright invite her.. I guess I won’t have time to see her before that anyway.” I gave in.
“Alright. See you later.”

Alone again, I walked into my house… Everything was as I remembered and left it… a few of my flowers didn’t look so well, but that was the least of my problems.
I grabbed the phone and called my parents.
“Hi Mom. It’s me.”
“Matthew Charles Sanders! How dare you give us such a shock, your Dad nearly had a heart attack when Val called us and told us what happened.” My mom yelled.
“I’m sorry I guess.” I chuckled a little.
“Are you alright, honey?” My mom sobbed and I sighed.
“I’m okay. I will visit you later today, is that okay, then you can see for yourself that I am whole.”
“Yes, please. We love you Matty.”
“I love you, too. See you later, Mom.”
“Bye.”
I hung up, alright that was done so far. I walked over to my phone and thought about listening to all the messages, but that would be something for later.
First I would change clothes and drive to the police, still with a little hope that Alicia would be there as well.

Alicia’s POV

I knew this situation must be bad for Zack, he doesn’t really know me and now I dragged him even into the patience room with me.
The problem was, I needed a friend right now.
I just needed someone to hold on to.
We walked into the room and I sat down in the chair before the desk and Zack took the chair far in the back, next to the door.
We were quiet and I didn’t dare turn around and see the pitting look in his eyes.

The door opened and my doctor walked in, “Mrs. Davis, how are you feeling? We heard you have a lot of trouble lately? Oh and hello Mr.?”
I felt so sorry for Zacky… I shouldn’t have made him come with me.
“Baker. I’m a friend.” Zack introduced himself with a handshake.
“I’m okay… I mean honestly I am afraid.” I told my doctor and he sat down on his desk looking into my folder.
I rubbed my hands together and looked down, I was afraid what was coming now but suddenly I felt some hands on my shoulders and looked up.
Zacky stood behind my chair, his hands on my shoulder and smiling at me. I looked into his green eyes and felt a little calmer.
I really needed someone to hold on to right now.
“Mrs. Davis… We did these test with you the last time, the problem is, we are not quite sure about the outcome. They didn’t give us all the information we need to be 100 % sure, that’s why we wanted to sign you to the hospital and to redo some of the test.”
I couldn’t breathe, as soon as I heard the word hospital my stomach clenched and I couldn’t get air into my lungs.
What meant not 100 % sure? That the cancer is back?
“Breathe, Alicia… Breathe. That doesn’t mean it is back, listen to me… It doesn’t say anything, yet. They need some more tests, right?” Zack’s face was in front of mine, he kneeled down beside my chair, making me look into his face and finally I could get air into my lungs again.
I breathed deeply in and out and kept staring at him.
“That’s right. I don’t want to scare you Mrs. Davis, but before we will make a final decision it is better to make some new test with the hospital. I can sign you there as soon as you can, just tell me when it would fit into your schedule, next week?”
“Tomorrow” I whispered. The sooner the better.
“Good. I will prepare the papers, but this will take some time at the hospital, so be prepared not to make any appointments afterwards.” With that my doc got up and left me and Zacky alone.

I buried my face in my hands, how embarrassing was this… I really shouldn’t have asked him to come with me. If I broke down and froze in front of Caroline or even Brad, that was fine… but Zack, some stranger…
Who didn’t feel like stranger anymore, was still really awful from my side…

“Alicia? Are you okay?” Zacks hand on my knee made me aware that he was still crouching down in front of me.
“Sorry… I am so so sorry. I don’t even know what to say.”
“Sorry for what?” I opened my fingers to look between them at Zack’s face and he was frowning a little but when he saw me peeking at him, he smiled.
“For...” I started but looked away again.
“For being afraid?” Zack asked and I looked back at him.
“I guess so… I don’t know what’s happening with me… as soon as I hear the words hospital and my name in one sentence I freak out.”
“There is nothing to be ashamed about… Believe me! I’m afraid, too… I might even tell you one of my fears later on… but you gotta promise not to tell anyone… That would be our secret, right?”
Zack took my hand and I stood up, we walked out of the doctor’s office like that and I even had to smile a little.
