Hostage

Alicia’s POV

“Maybe we should just let her sleep and call the police that we will be coming later?” Brad’s voice roused me from my sleep.
“You know, I need to go to work now, but I can call in that I will be coming later, babe.. I don’t want you two going there alone.” Brad said again.
I opened my eyes and saw Caroline in the doorway and Brad stood across from her.
“Don’t worry Brad.”Caroline laid her arms around her husband's neck and I had to close my eyes.

A phone rang and I opened my eyes trying to wake my lazy brain.
“I’ll get it.” Brad said and walked away.
“Alicia?” Caroline walked towards me.
“Hey.” I greeted her and tried to smile.
“Hey… how are you feeling?” Caroline asked softly.
“I’m okay.” I sat back up.
“Yes, I will ask her, but I think it’s a good idea. Just hold on for a second.” Brad walked into the room.
“Caro, it’s Zack, for you.” Brad handed the phone to Caroline and she walked out.

I got up and looked around for some clothes but remembered that I didn’t have any clothes with me.
Another thing I had to do today... I couldn’t stay at Caroline and Brad much longer. I needed to get my own life back together… somehow.
“Perfect. And.. thank you.”Caroline walked back in and hung up.
“We will meet Zack at the police station. That way Brad won’t be late for work and we have someone with us. Are you okay with that?” Caroline looked between me and Brad back and forth.
“Yes, I am good with that.” Brad nodded.
“I don’t know… I mean I don’t know this Zack guy… I just… damn Caro I don’t want you to make such a big deal from it.. you also have to go to work and Brad as well, don’t make so much trouble for me.”
“Are you fucking kidding me? You are my best friend… I want to be by your side while you are going through this…” Caroline started.
“Thank you.” I said softly and I wanted her there… with our without Zacky, I was just glad not to be alone.
“Later we will go to the doctor for the next tests and then back to your apartment get some clothes and then we will cook something nice together.” Caroline smiled.
“Here for now, take a few of my clothes and take a shower, we will be late for meeting Zack at the police station.”
She was talking again so fast that I couldn’t take everything in she was saying, but the word doctor and tests was burned inside my brain.
I wasn’t nervous about the police or going to my apartment, I was freaking out because of going to my doc for a talk and more tests…
“It will be fine, I will be there, you won’t be alone.” Caroline hugged me a final time and shoved some of her clothes into my arms.
“Go ahead, get ready.” Caroline motioned me to the shower.

Caroline parked near the police station and before the entrance stood Matt’s friend Zacky.
I had a little hope that maybe Matt showed up here as well, maybe Zack knew when he planned to be here.
I thought that it could have been easier to do this together, but as it seemed I had to do this alone.
Or at least without Matt…
“Hey Alicia, Caroline. Good to see you two again.” Zack hugged Caroline and they seemed pretty close actually.
Zack must be a good guy if Caroline called him a friend and Brad was also cool with him being around his wife after such short amount of time.
But again I didn’t know what happened during the time I was gone…
“Hey.” I smiled shyly and Zack just hugged me too.
“Should I wait outside or come inside?” Zack asked and I thought he was really sweet for considering this.
“Come inside.” I told him, maybe with both of them I had a little distraction during my statement.

Everything went faster than I thought, I made a statement and had to fill out some papers.
Caroline had a call and went outside during my statement but Zack was sitting silently with me.
When we had a small break I had whispered to him the question that had been on my mind all day.
“Do you know when Matt will be here?”
“No, sorry. I don’t, should I call him? I could…” Zack whispered back.
“No, don’t. I was just curious, I guess… I thought maybe I would meet him here…” I sighed a little.
“He was pretty exhausted yesterday, Brian kicked us out… Only Val, Brian and Chelle were there… I don’t know how long they’ve been talking and such… but maybe he had to organize a few things before going here… but still I can call him for you.”
“Oh Val, Brian and Chelle… that are…?” I asked slowly.
“Brian, you know, he was the tall one with me and Johnny when we got you out of the hotel. Chelle is his wife with the long now darker blonde hair… and her sister with the lighter blonde hair is Matt’s girlfriend.. or well I don’t really know how the actual relationship status is right now, so don’t let me say anything wrong.” Zack shrugged his shoulders.
Caroline came back inside a stressed look on her face.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her with a frown.
“Brad’s mom just called. Something is wrong with Jamie… I have to drive over to her and have a look at him, maybe he is getting ill… I’m sorry Alicia, she tried to calm him down, but he is crying all day long and…” Caroline’s eyes water and I felt guilt stabbing my heart.
“I’m so sorry, Caro.. Go to your son. Don’t worry about me. I will just call a cab and get to the doctor and my apartment. Don’t worry. I will stay there… there really is no need for you to…” Caroline eyes opened wide.
“NO! No, don’t say that. You know I couldn’t stand for you being alone and going alone to your doc, just give me an hour and I will have a look at Jamie.. I could drive you back home and we could-”
“I could bring you there, if you want? I think it’s not a good idea for you to be alone?” Zack said softly.
I looked at him and he smiled a little.
“Oh yes, that would be perfect. Just bring her to her apartment, let her get some things and bring her back to my house. I will be there later… We can postpone the appointment at the doc, we can go there together tomorrow… I mean… Alicia? What do you think?”
“I think that you should hurry and go to your son, Zack and I will manage. Thank you for everything.”
“Alright, sorry. I need to go now… We see us later at home, at my home. Promise?!” Caroline hugged me and I nodded.
“Yes, until later.” Caroline took her phone out of her pocket and walked out of the door.
I finished my statement and went outside with Zack.
“Why are you here, Zacky? I mean… don’t get me wrong… I am happy not to be alone, but we don’t know each other and… shouldn’t you be with your friend?” Zack walked together with me to his car and I climbed into the passenger seat.
Zacky sighed loudly “I don’t really know what I am doing here… I spent so much time with Caroline and Brad during the last weeks… She told me so much about you and I felt like… I wanted to be your friend as well. You seem like an amazing person and as far as I can tell, you are.”
I looked at him astonished and he had this boyish smile on his face.
“Alright, then thank you for being my friend, I guess.” I smiled at him and he started the engine.
“Where to go first?”
“My doctor… I need to finally know the truth.” Zacky nodded and we drove off.
