Danger Line (re-write)

The Sky Is Falling

Hannah
I woke up this morning in Erin’s old room in the Avenged mansion, given that she’s Zack’s girlfriend now and they can barely keep their hands off of each other, they share his room now, leaving hers empty.

I don’t remember getting changed for bed last night, actually, I don’t even remember coming home with Erin and the guys, but the last couple of hours of Mr and Mrs Sanders’ party last night got pretty wild, and the last thing I remember doing, was holding back Coopers lovely blonde curls while I blew chunks down the toilet. Seeing my dress draped over the chair in the corner of the room, my bag and shoes beside it, I could only sigh with relief before realising I was wearing a tank top and shorts, Erin’s, of course.

I made my way out of the bedroom, across the top floor and down the large staircase while groaning inwardly and rubbing my temples with the tips of my fingers in attempt to ease the pounding in my head.

“I’m never drinking again,” I muttered to myself.

“How many times have you told yourself that?” The familiar voice of Brian Haner Jr. came from the other side of the kitchen when I walked in.

“Hey,” I smiled at him “What are you doing up so early?” I asked.

“Matt,” He groaned “He told us all last night when we got home that we have to be in a meeting in…” He trailed off and looked up at the clock on the wall “Twenty minutes,”

“This doesn’t involve me, does it?” I asked “That’s not why I crashed here last night?”

“No,” He laughed “You crashed here because you were so hammered and your dear best friend didn’t want to send you home alone, she checked on you at least twelve times before Zack finally got her to go to bed,”

“How badly did I embarrass myself last night?” I asked, already cringing.

“Let’s just say, you Hetfield kids sure know how to live up to your father’s name,” He laughed, stepping closer to me and wrapping his arms around me, resting his chin on the top of my head “You and your brother were dancing on the kitchen island singing your dads old music at the top of your lungs with empty beer bottles,”

“Dad’s old music,” I smiled with a slight sigh “Sometimes I wish they could all just be back in the band, you know? Like, that could have all just continued, they still all went on to get married and have us kids, but, they were just famous musicians,”

“Why?” He asked “Why do you wish that?”

“’Cause if they hadn’t formed the gang, they wouldn’t have been so hated and my… my mom would still be alive,”

“What’s this?” Someone laughed, coming into the kitchen, Brian and I pulled apart slowly and I turned around to see Johnny raiding the fridge and surfacing again with a beer “What?” He asked, noticing the way I was looking at him “The best way to avoid a hangover is to stay drunk,” He laughed.

“Whatever, dude.” I laughed “Enjoy liver failure,”

“Let’s go!” Matt shouted as he walked past the kitchen “Meeting,” There was a few moments of silence, save for his feet walking down one of the corridors towards the board room “NOW!”

I woke up this morning to Zack rushing out of our room, pulling his t-shirt over his head, I guess he was late for their meeting, I was told not to worry about it, it wasn’t anything that I needed to go to, and for once in my life in this gang, I wasn’t bothered in the slightest about not being involved in the plans. I was too tired and hung over for business today anyway, Zack could fill me in later.

I rolled out of bed and dressed myself in a plain white t-shirt and light grey sweats, tied my hair up in a ponytail and made my way downstairs, where I found Hannah, sprawled out on the sofa watching morning TV, wearing what I dressed her in for bed last night.

“I’m bored!” She groaned loudly, throwing the top half of her body over to back of the sofa and looked at me with big blue eyes before I even said anything, making me laugh.

“You wanna go listen in on the meeting?” I suggested mischievously.

“Yes!” She exclaimed excitedly, jumping over the back of the couch, grabbing me and taking off through the building, the sound of our bare feet padding on the floor barely reaching our ears.

When we stopped outside the meeting room, we heard Matt talking some shit about ‘expanding their horizons’ and we were instantly intrigued . We stood silently outside the door, barely breathing, our ears almost pressed against the wood of the door as we listened excitedly to the conversation going on inside. And here I had been thinking neither of us were interested in this meeting.

“So, I was talking to my dad last night, who was once in our position with his gang when they were out age,” Hannah and I looked at each other with a frown as Matt continued to speak “He told me that they weren’t taken seriously until he got married to my mom, but it was for business, not because they were in love, she married him, but she wasn’t exactly willing to begin with, but they eventually fell for each other just before she got pregnant with me,”

What the fuck? Gary and Kimberley seemed so perfect for each other, like they had always loved each other. I looked at Hannah, trying to see how comfortable she was listening to this conversation, I knew that marriage was always a touchy subject for her.

“So that’s the plan,” He continued “I’m going to get married,”

There was silence, before the guys all burst out laughing, Hannah and I let out a small laugh, too.

“Yeah, right, Shads. Where the fuck are you going to find someone to marry you?” Jimmy asked, still laughing loudly.

“She’s right here, in this house,” My eyes widened and Hannah looked at me with a shocked expression.

“Fuck no!” Zack yelled “You’re not marrying my girl, just because you can’t keep one of your own,”

“Not her,” Matt chuckled “Hannah, she’s here today, and today, I’m going to get engaged to her,”

My head was spinning. Matt was going to do what?! I was too busy replaying what I had just heard over and over again in my head, that I didn’t notice Hannah opening the doors and entering the room until she started yelling.

“YOU’RE GOING TO DO WHAT!?” She roared, I followed her in and she was already in his face, steam practically coming out of her ears, her face burning bright red with anger, but he hadn’t flinched or moved, he just smirked down at her.

“Hannah, darling,” His smirk turned to a smile, flashing her those dimples of his.

“You’re going to marry me?” She asked slowly and quietly, which was more worrying than when she yelled “I’ll die before that happens,”

“Baby,” Matt cooed “Don’t be like that, you’re going to be my wife, you’ll be the new Mrs Sanders, and there’s nothing you can do about it,”

“I can say ‘no’!” She demanded “I’m not just one of your whores who does whatever the fuck you want her to, Matt!”

“Just…” He trailed off and reached into his back pocket “Take a look at the ring?” He asked, holding out a small black box, popping the lid open to reveal a gorgeous engagement ring, she looked at in in awe for a second before snapping out of it and screaming at
him.

“NO!” She roared “I will never marry you!” She yelled before her fist collided with his jaw, and as soon as it had, he wrapped his hand around her neck and slammed her against the wall, ignoring all of us yelling at him to stop as she started to go purple.

“You will marry me, Hannah.” He told her, his voice low “You may not be willing, but it will happen, you fit the role of my wife…
perfectly,” He smirked.

“Matt!” I yelled, rushing over to them “She’s not breathing!” I shoved him out of the way and he let her go, she dropped to the floor in a heap, gasping for breath, her colour returning to her face.

I got on the floor beside her and pulled her into my lap, soothing her as she started to cry a little. Matt came down to our level and slid the ring onto her finger before dropping her hand into her lap again.

“Perfect,” He smiled, standing back up and walking away.

“Way to win over a girl’s heart, Sanders,” Hannah choked after him, her voice weak from his grip on her neck minutes before.

“I know,” He laughed “You have the next three days to have all of your stuff moved over here and into my room, if you don’t do it yourself, I’ll have it done for you,”

With that, he left the room and Hannah allowed the sobs to take over her body. The other guys left the room, leaving the two of us on the floor while she cried into my neck.

Her first wedding, she left to make her groom happy, and her second wedding, it’s going to have to be the groom who leaves so that she can be happy.

I’d driven myself back to my apartment, let myself in, fed Jack – My Doberman – and took a shower in a daze before dressing myself in something comfortable and falling asleep on the sofa.

I was awakened by the sound of someone sighing, followed by the movement of someone sitting beside me on the sofa. I opened my eyes and saw my dad sitting at the end of the couch, looking over at me. I moved so that my head was in his lap and my feet dangled off the arm of the couch where my head had just been. Dad started to play with my hair and hum one of his songs to me. I looked up and met his eyes, which looked just as sad as mine. I smiled weakly at him.

“Daddy?” I whispered, instantly regretting it as my throat begged me not to speak again. My hand instinctively rose to my throat, which felt tender under the pressure of my long fingers, without looking at it, I already knew that it was bruised, the bruise being in the form of Matt’s hand. “Why?” I asked “Why is this happening to me?” I started to cry, dad pulled me up onto his lap where I curled up like I used to do as a child, and cried into his chest.

“It’s business baby,” He whispered “And I’ve been trying all day, but there isn’t anything I can do to get you out of this one,” His voice was breaking, and I didn’t even have to look up to know that he was crying, but I jumped out of his arms and stood before him, looking at him in disbelief.

“No!” I cried, using my voice as loudly as I could “You don’t get to tell me that, dad!” I cried “I can take ‘the sky is falling’ from everyone else, but not you!”

I walked away from him, through my bedroom and locked myself in the bathroom.

Dad had followed me and was standing outside the door, apologizing profusely for not being able to get me out of this, that I had to go through with it but he was sorry about that, but I was doing my best to ignore him.

I gripped the sides of the sink and looked at myself in the mirror, the bruise around my neck was horrible, but it was obviously Matt’s hand, and I wasn’t going to do a thing to try and hide it, I was going to make it clear to everyone we met that he did this to me.

“I have to be alone,” I called to my dad through the door “Can you be out of my room when I get out of here, please?”

“Why?”

“I have to change,” I snapped. He muttered something but left my room.

I came out of the bathroom and changed into a tight black v neck t-shirt, dark grey skinny jeans and biker boots. I let my hair out of the messy bun and let the waves fall over my shoulders. I quickly applied some eyeliner and shrugged into my leather jacket and left the bedroom, slipping my phone into my pocket.

“I’m going out,” I told my dad as I walked to the door “Don’t be here when I get back, you have no reason for being here,”

An hour later, I found myself at Johnny’s Bar, our usual drinking spot, but tonight, I wasn’t drinking to celebrate, I was drinking my sorrows away over my new relationship status.

“Another drink, sweetheart?” Johnny asked, it was my lucky night tonight, the owner was tending… my favourite guy in the world.

“Please,” I nodded, sliding my empty glass over to him “Y’know Johnny, you’re the only bar tender who won’t tell me when I’ve had too much to drink and send me home, until I’m passed out on the bar, throwing everything up into your toilets or crying on your shoulder,” I slurred, making him laugh as he passed my drink over to me “Thanks,” I raised my glass and he nodded to me.

Are you going to tell me what’s up now, Hannah?” He asked, tossing the rag over his shoulder and leaning his elbows on the bar
“Lending an ear is part of the job, you know,” I smiled at him weakly.

“You remember how I got into this mess?” I asked.

“You left the love of your life at the altar, to save his life, resulting in you working for your father and Avenged, yeah,” He nodded.

“Yeah, well, I swore, that the only man I would ever marry would be Sam, the only man I’ve ever loved, and when I didn’t do that, I swore that I would never get married,” He nodded along as I spoke “Well, now I guess I’m planning my second wedding, one I’m going to have to go through with,” I held my hand up, flashing him the ring.

“Well fuck me sideways,” He chuckled, slipping his glasses onto his face and taking my hand in his, pulling it closer to his face for a better look “Would you look at the size of that rock!”

“I’ve been looking at it since he put in on my finger,” I laughed.

“’He’ wouldn’t be the leader of a young gang going by the name Avenged Sevenfold, would he?” He asked and I nodded, making him sigh and place my hand back on the bar before taking his glasses off of his wrinkled face and into his white hair “I thought you guys were a couple, anyway?” He asked and I scoffed.

“Hell no!” I laughed “We’ve kissed a few times in a drunken fit of passion, but there’s been nothing more than that,” I threw back the last of my drink “And now, we’re getting married apparently,” I looked at the ring one more time “This isn’t how I imagined my life,” I sighed.

“Another?” Johnny asked, taking my empty glass again.

“Nah,” I held my hand up “I’m drunk enough, I think I’m gonna go over there, take the rest of my anger out on Matt,” I shrugged my jacket on again and checked my pockets for my keys and phone, which was vibrating with Erin’s name on the screen “He has some explaining to do,” I chuckled.

“See you later, Hannah!” Johnny called after me “Drive safe!” Of course, Johnny would be the one bar owner to let me get hammered and then drive home, hey, the mansion isn’t too far from here.

“Hey, E.” I said into the phone as I held it against my ear with my shoulder as I climbed into my car.

“Where are you?” She asked, sounding worried “Matt went over to your place and you weren’t home, he’s been going fucking ape shit because he doesn’t know where you are, the guys won’t let him come looking for you,”

“I’m coming over,” I told her “Just, calm him the fuck down,” I laughed.

“How do you expect us to do that?” She asked over Matt yelling in the background.

“Tell him I’ll beat the shit out of him if he’s angry when I get there,” I ended the call and dropped the phone into the passenger seat and pulled out of the parking lot, headed for Avenged’s mansion.
