Out of Left Field

Summary

The night was warm, humidly so. And for the last week the team had been practising in the same heat, with no cross breeze for a reprieve from it. The team had had a few causalities during the training days, some of them not drinking enough sport juice to keep them hydrated and a few with minor bumps and sprains. They knew it was going to be tough. Knew it wouldn’t be a quick, easy game like the others. No tonight they were playing Shelbyville, Golden Eagles versus Falcons. It was the game of the season, the game which will determine which district goes to the play offs.

The team was warming up various body parts as the stadium lights flooded the baseball field and the excited chatter from the supporters could now be heard over the chart music the cheerleaders insisted on dancing to. The Reed boys – all three of them stopped warming up in favour of watching the half naked cheer squad shake it out on the field. It was the perk of being on the team. They didn’t usually have the cheer squad to entertain the crowd but with it being the crucial game between enemies Coach Baker had pulled a few strings with the football coach. And the Reed boys certainly took advantage of it.

The fourth Reed however was stood in the corner of the locker room, forehead resting against the cool tiled wall trying not to throw up the contents of dinner. The worn leather mitt and slightly off white ball lay at her feet and the baseball cap dangled from a shaking hand. She didn’t know how long she had been stood there in the quietness of the locker room nor did she care. The only thing she cared about was not vomiting or passing out. Fear had seeped into her veins, fear that something bad would happen when she stepped out onto the field; like it had almost three years ago.

The familiar slow, uneven gait was heard over the rapid breathing and erratic heartbeat and it would have earn a smile if the fear hadn’t of taken its hold on her. But she knew that he would be the only one who would calm her down, who would be able to make her see sense and more importantly who could make her fear evaporate. And lord did she need it now.

“I can’t do it, Mister Baker.” Scarlett Reed muttered with a slight quiver to her voice, her head still braced against the cool tiles. She was on verge of tears and they both knew it.

Zack pulled her small, shaking frame into his muscular, warm body and was comforted when she turned in his arms and clung to him like he was her life raft. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to find her and for her to accept who he was, even though he hadn’t accepted it himself. And Zack knew that she needed comforting and boy did he have a few suggestions but that would have to wait, wait until after the game. But right now it pulled at his heartstrings that Scarlett was hurting, blaming herself for what happened a few years ago. He hated seeing her like this so full of fear.

“Shh baby.” Zack hushed her as his large tattooed hands rubbed slowly up and down her back soothingly. “It’s alright.” He cooed. Scarlett raised her beautiful brown eyes to his, tears already pooled there. He couldn’t stand to see her cry.

“Zack I can’t.” Was all she managed before the tears began cascading down her cheeks. Zack quickly brushed them away with both thumbs his eyes never leaving hers. He saw all the pain in her eyes like he had done before and he hated it the first time but now it almost killed him.

“Scar, if you don’t want to play. Baby you don’t have to.” Zack spoke with sincerity. He could care less if she played or not – all he cared about was how she felt.

“But –“ Zack cut her off.

“Listen baby, I love you whether you play or not and if I’m honest it’s really not worth you getting upset about.” Those words were all it took for Scarlett to stop crying making him sigh in relief.

“I love you too, Mr Baker.” She knew he loved it when she called him that; Scarlett also knew it made hard and tonight was no different. With a smirk Zack brushed his plump lips against hers in what was meant to be a brief kiss but she gripped the back of his head forcing him closer, forcing his mouth wider as she fed him long, hard strokes of her tongue. Tasting, sucking and biting. God if that didn’t almost make him want to combust in his Wranglers!

As the locker room door slammed open Coach and student jumped apart seconds before Rory Reed appeared. “Y’all the game is almost startin’ and we need our star pitcher!” with that said Rory stormed back out of the room not noticing the blush on his cousins cheeks or the way they were both panting slightly.

Zack and Scarlett smiled at each other at her cousins’ obliviousness. But it was a close call of their secret relationship being unmasked, something neither of them could afford to happen.

“So are you ready Scar?” Zack asked wrapping his muscular, tattooed arms around her once again. Doubt clouded Scarlett’s eyes and if he hadn’t have been looking he would have missed it. He was thankful when she didn’t shy away from his stare, like she used to. And he was most thankful that she no longer hid anything from him.

“I want to play for you.” She admitted quietly, something which she had never spoke of before and Zack couldn’t be any happier. “I want you to be proud of me.” The last part came out in a whisper before her teeth worried her succulent bottom lip.

“Hey I’m already proud of you, so don’t think otherwise.” That made Scarlett smile and blush all at the same time, much to Zack’s delight. God he didn’t think he’d ever get tired of seeing her blush.

“I love you so much.” Scarlett whispered a moment before she brushed her lips against his. But before they got carried away Scarlett pulled back a smile dancing on her lips.

“I love you more than words can say.” Zack beamed, his lips rings glinting in the fluorescent lights. They looked deeply into each other’s eyes for what felt like hours but were just a few minutes and as they heard the chart music stop and the crowd cheer the pair blinked at one another.

“Come on Mr Baker, I’ve got a game to play.” She continued clasping his hand in hers as they began the slow walk through the locker room.

The crowd’s cheers grew louder as they walked slowly through the player’s tunnel in pitch darkness but the floodlights helped them trace the oh-so familiar steps out to the field. Scarlett was no longer shaking, no longer letting the fear take its hold and Zack couldn’t be any prouder than he was right now. He also knew the three other Reed’s would play the best game of the season thanks to little Scarlett – his little Scarlett.

“Let’s kick some ass!” with that Scarlett grabbed her mitt and ball off of Coach Baker before joining the team out on the field leaving him to readjust his aching cock before entering the players pit to watch Sunnyville High and his seventeen year old girlfriend play the crucial baseball game of the school’s season.

For the love of Vengence please please please update soon! This story is one of the most descriptive, all enveloping stories I have found. It just sucks me in, like I'm actually there, and I love it! I may not comment all the time, due to technical issues, but rest assured that I am reading. So please update! I adore this story! And honestly due to the fact that you are only using names and somewhat desciptions of the guys in the band I think if you finish it you should look into getting it published! Yes it is that good. I'm very picky about grammar and spelling and all that and this is by far one of the best I have had the joy of reading!
