~Jimmy~

I kept glancing in the rearview mirror as we all sang along to the radio (well I stopped after a while, but Zack kept going along), paying close attention to one voice in particular. I had no idea there had been anything so beautiful...

“Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.

I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called "Yellow".

So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have done,
And it was all yellow…”

Everything about her. The way the melody flowed from her with ease… how her lips formed the words and the way they lingered there… the way she’d close her beautiful eyes, letting the feeling emit from the lyrics…

“I swam across,
I jumped across for you,
Oh what a thing to do.
'Cause you were all yellow,

I drew a line,
I drew a line for you,
Oh what a thing to do,
And it was all yellow…”

The way she looked at her daughter as she sang to her, and reached over to stroke her cheek… how she so openly accepted her daughter’s love…

“Your skin,
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into
Something beautiful,
And you know,
For you I'd bleed myself dry,
For you I'd bleed myself dry…”

She was so perfect to me, and I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her (Besides having to look back at the road to pay attention to where I was driving, of course). Finally, I joined back in for the remaining lyrics, and her eyes met mine. I couldn’t help but put forth every single emotion I had into it…

“Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And all the things that you do.”

And she smiled, making my heart flutter. She was so beautiful…

“Another one, Uncle Jimmy,” Amber squealed excitedly.
“Yeah,” Evelyn said, following suit.

Zack laughed and I stuck my tongue out at the girls while they made fishy faces at me in return, giggling like there was no tomorrow.
The girls sang along to Dreams by Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks while we made our way to the shore. It wasn’t a very long drive at all really, just the traffic was a bitch since everyone wanted to make sure that they got home before the rain started to pour, or so it seems.
Once the car was parked, Amber and Evelyn squealed loudly, making us all laugh at them. The girls ran after each other, and right into the water, with Zack chasing them.

“I’ll sit and wait for Abby over here,” Serenity said, choosing a place to sit in the sand.
I looked over at her, and began to admire her. She was now barefoot, her toe nails were painted white, and was wearing light blue shorts that were rolled at the bottoms with an off-white shirt that was a little too big, the straps to her light blue bikini showing. Her hair was down and flowing with the wind that picked up just a bit. I smirked when I noticed a blush tint her cheeks.
“What are you staring at,” she giggled.
“You,” I said with a grin. I sat next to her, placing my hand on her leg lightly. I wanted so badly to touch her right now, but…
“Well quit it,” she laughed, pushing her hair out of her face. “You’re creeping me out.”
“Fuckin’ liar,” I snorted, reluctantly pulling my hand back. “You like it.”
“Oh my gosh,” she said, rolling her eyes at me. Her cheeks turned a deeper shade of pink as she turned away from me.
“Why don’t you go swim,” I asked her. I just wanted her to take off her Goddamn shirt. (Sorry. Jesus, a man has needs!)
“Why don’t you go swim,” she shot back, her laughter ringing out over the calming sound of the ocean.
“Maybe because I’m waiting on you,” I said simply, my attention caught by Evelyn who was screaming while Zacky held her and Amber upside down in each of his arms over the water.

Serenity laughed again, making me want to hear more. “Well good luck with that,” she said looking over at me with a wide smile.
“I’ll get you over there one way or another,” I chuckled. “You better be willing to go on your own, or I’ll throw you in there.”
Serenity just shook her head and turned her face away from me again.
“What,” I asked, crawling closer to her so that I could stroke my nose against her neck.
“Nothing,” she said quietly, turning to me again. But her smile wasn’t as happy as it was before.
I kissed her lips softly, and stayed there for a bit, resting my forehead on hers.
“Tell me,” I pleaded, trying to keep it light so that she didn’t feel too pressured. Obviously something was bothering her and I didn’t want her to be uncomfortable.
Serenity sighed, and closed her eyes, not moving her face away from me. I could feel the heat emitting from her face where she was blushing harder.

“When I had Evelyn, I had to get a C-section,” she mumbled. “Most women’s stretch marks are what bothers them, but not me. That scar is terrible, and no matter what I do, it won’t go away.”
“Let me see it,” I told her, a little more sternly than I intended.
“What,” she said, the surprise in her voice almost made me laugh.
“Let me. See it,” I said, smiling at her. Her eyes were wide, and her cheeks were still super pink.
“Jimmy,” Serenity whined, holding the bottom of her shirt.
“Come on,” I laughed. “Just let me see. I won’t say anything. I promise.”

Serenity stared at me for a while, then looked down and slowly lifted her shirt.
At first, I saw nothing, which made me shift my eyes up to her and quirk my eyebrow at her. She rolled her eyes and sighed, laughing a little awkwardly. With one hand, she lowered the front of her shorts and there it was. A long, ropy scar that was almost a dark purple against her skin. I suppose I could see why she’d be a little embarrassed, but this isn’t just any scar. That was where one of the most beautiful people had been taken.
I reached up and stroked her skin just under her scar, my fingertips just barely rubbing against her, making her shiver. I looked up to her and met her eyes. She just stared at me, speechless.

“I don’t see anything wrong,” I said softly.
Serenity didn’t respond. She just stared at me, not breaking eye contact with me as I reached up and pulled her shirt over her head. I leaned forward and kissed her shoulder, before getting up to pull her to her feet.
“So are you coming, or not,” I asked her, grabbing her hand.
She looked over at the water where Abby had slipped past us and joined Zacky and the girls.
“Okay,” she said quietly, going to unzip her shorts so she could slip them off.

We walked hand in hand to the water, where I stopped so she could hop onto my back.
“Damn girl,” Zacky said laughing, winking at Serenity.
“Shut your whore mouth, Baker,” I laughed.
“I don’t know why you’re saying anything, Sullivan,” Abby snickered, blowing a kiss to Serenity who was just laughing. “That’s my woman you’re carrying.”
“Not anymore,” I yelled, starting to prance around after Evelyn and Amber.
“Oh no,” Amber screamed, pulling Evelyn with her, trying to run in the water. “We have to go Lyn-Lyn! Jimmy’s gonna get us!”
Evelyn let out a high pitched squeal and started to run with her.
After a while, Serenity got off of my back and started to chase the girls with Abby, splashing each other with water, then putting them on their shoulders and going out into the deep while Zack and I watched.

“I saw you two,” Zack said, looking at me through the corner of his eye.
“I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, Vengeance,” I said back, staring at Serenity.
“Don’t play dumb, bitch,” Zack chuckled, nudging me with his elbow. “You guys need to sort some things out.”
I rolled my eyes at him and shook my head, ignoring his stupid hints.
“Well, you lovebirds are going to have to figure something out anyway,” he laughed. “I already told the girls that Abby and I are taking them out for ice cream while Mommy and Daddy get their shit together.”
I threw my head back and laughed loudly. “Oh my God,” I snorted, holding my stomach. “This is why we’re friends, you dirty bastard!”
“You know it,” Zack cheered in a dumb voice.
Just as I opened my mouth to speak, a big, fat, rain drop fell in front of me and lightning streaked across the sky. Evelyn screamed and wrapped her arms onto Serenity the best that she could, given their position.

“Let’s go girls,” I yelled, while Zack got out saying he was going to grab the ‘shitty ass umbrella’ from the car.
We were barely out of the water when the rain started pouring, Zack got to the girls and escorted Abby, Evelyn and Amber to Abby’s car, while I pulled Serenity to mine, grabbing her stuff on the way.
“I love you baby girl,” Serenity called to Evelyn, trying to be louder than the waves and thunder. “Be good, and be safe. I love you guys!”
“We love you too,” Abby yelled back. “You two be careful, also!”
I helped Serenity into my car, then went around to get in, throwing our towels and her clothes into the back seat.
“Jimmy, your seats are leather,” Serenity said. “I’m soaked, I’m going to ruin them.”
I turned to face her, looking her over slowly, and smiled. “They’re just seats, silly,” I told her, turning on the car and putting the heater on so that she didn’t get cold.

Serenity smiled as I started to drive and reached for my hand. I sighed when I felt her fingers intertwine with mine.
“So what now,” Serenity asked me, tilting her head a little.
“Whatever you want to do,” I said smiling at her. I’m pretty sure I looked like a dumb ass because of how excited I felt, but there was absolutely no way I could help myself.
“Why don’t we just go home,” she suggested. “Besides, our clothes are all wet.”
I nodded at her, but instead of turning around to go the direction of her house, I kept going straight so that we were headed to mine. I’m pretty sure I had some shorts she could borrow.

We didn’t say much along the way. We sat in a comfortable silence as I held and rubbed small circles on the back of her hand. I took an occasional glance at her as I drove, she leaned her head back on the headrest of the seat, her eyes were closed and there was a faint smile on her lips. It wasn’t long until I finally pulled into my driveway and turned off the ignition when she looked around with a confused look on her face.
“Jimmy, we’re at your house,” she said, making me chuckle.
“I know,” I chuckled, bracing myself for the cold rain. “Wait there.”

I got out of my car with our stuff and ran to my front door through the pouring rain, cursing myself for not getting a house with a proper porch that had a little roof over it. I unlocked the door and threw our things to the side, then turned to head back to the car. I got to the passenger side and opened the door for Serenity, who squealed just as some of the rain got inside.
I grabbed her hand and pulled her out. Instead of running to the house, she stood there and stared at me while I reached in and locked the doors, and came out, slamming the door shut and squinted at her through the rain. Her hair had grown long within the weeks, and was soaked and now flowing a little past her shoulders, the overcast was giving her pale skin a glow that I couldn’t help but admire. Her lips were a very subtle tint of red, her cheeks were a soft pink color, probably from the cold rain that was coming down on us, the droplets catching on her eyelashes and falling down her cheeks as she blinked.
“What are you looking at, weirdo,” I asked her, poking her shoulder.
Serenity laughed at me, and wrapped her arms around my waist. I kissed the top of her head, making her look up to me.
“You’re silly, Jimmy,” she said, smiling sweetly.
I leaned down and kissed her lips, holding her close to me. She wrapped her arms around my neck, slipping her tongue into my mouth, deepening our kiss. I sighed and pulled her closer to me.

As we stood there in our bliss, the rain started to come down harder, making us both laugh.
I pushed Serenity against the car gently and kissed her again, making my want clear to her. I deepened our kiss, my heart soaring at her sigh. I ran my hands up her sides, and she brought hers around to the back of my neck, pulling me closer to her.

I broke our kiss and pressed my forehead against hers. “We should probably go inside,” I said breathlessly.
Serenity laughed and nodded at me, grabbing my hand and walking ahead of me.
We had barely gotten through the front door before starting another make out session, not even paying attention to all the water we were trailing behind us. I’m surprised I even remembered to kick the door closed.
With my lips locked on hers, I guided her towards my bedroom. She laughed lightly as I pushed her onto the fluffy blankets. I held my weight on one arm as I laid over her.

Just as I opened my mouth to speak, Serenity shushed me.
“Wait,” she said quietly. “Just be quiet for a moment.”
I waited as her eyes studied my face, a small smile on her lips. I reached up to stroke her skin. My touch raising goose bumps wherever they went.
“Serenity,” I said softly, letting her name linger on my lips.
“Yes,” she asked me, her fingers caressing my cheek.
“Do you want to build a snoooow maaaaan!!”
