The Middle

*Sarah P.O.V.*

Finally the day was over. To be honest it wasn’t really an easy job to protect the people every day in Huntington Beach but I really loved my job as police officer. There was never a time when I really wanted to do anything else than this one. And you had to admit that men loved to see a women in a uniform, especially Brian had its kinky fetishes. Finally I could close that chapter really soon and could announce my new boyfriend.

I’ve cheated for the last three months and he really didn’t notice that. He loved the music so much that he could forget everything around him, even the world could go down next to him and he probably would figure it out when no one is giving feedback to his guitar solos. As much as I loved to hear him play I really couldn’t stand his little bitchy behaviour towards people that didn’t like them at all. He became all furious, which scared some people off already.

That’s why I kept lying to him at the end. I was waiting for a better moment to end the relationship. Something where I really wouldn’t look like a bitch or a whore.

I just left the building when I got a text message by … Brian. Why was he just texting me right now?! What was the matter?! I opened the text message and just stopped walking towards to my car. I had to read it twice to make sure that I was right what I saw.

Roxy?! There was no other Roxy I knew but how could he know that we both knew each other?! Except Roxy revealed our whole plan. It wouldn’t help when I just stay here staring at my mobile phone and read the message over and over again.
I had to go to Roxy’s house as fast as I could. They just could really pray to God that they wouldn’t be at her house anymore. I didn’t know no boundaries when it was coming to the point when people attacked one of my best friends.

Only 10 minutes later I arrived her house. There was no car that I could make out as Zacky’s or Brian’s. So that would mean they were gone. Good for them. It might save them now, but it wouldn’t help them later anyway.

The door was still open and I pushed it a bit wider and see if there was Roxy anywhere. Slowly I walked along her corridor looking first in her kitchen and then going straight to the living room where she was blind-folded tied-up on a chair. That means revenge, guys. You want it on the hard way … You will get the hard way.
I didn’t waste any time and rescued her from the cord that they used to tie her up.

“Is everything ok, Roxy?” I kneeled down looking straight to her eyes that focused a point far away somewhere behind me.

“These guys are some freaks and need to be punished for that.”

“What actually happened? How do they know about our connection?”

“I was at the bar where Zacky seemed to wait already for me. I was right about my assumption – he heard our call and told me to stay away from Brian when I really didn’t want to face his other side. Well Brian listened to all that but he stayed on his side. Then everything went so fast” she rubbed her temples.

“It’s probably not the best plan I’ve ever had but what do you think when I just call Brian, invite him to the beach for a talk and bury the hatchet. He is still in love with me, so I just use some of my charm and he will be wrapped around my little finger again.”

“You really think that this will work out after they know about our plan?” she still seemed to have doubts while I was really sure about my victory.

“Of course! Brian has some weakness and this is me. He might play the bad boy now, but just wait and see.”

I pulled out my mobile phone from the jacket and dialled his number. I only waited three seconds until he picked it up already.

“I’m sure you already have seen your little present we left for you” I heard him giggling and Zacky’s voice wasn’t far away either.

“I did Brian, but well I really didn’t call you to go on our dirty game. I actually want to talk to you, alone, tonight at the pier. The place where you asked me that question if I want to marry you. That is no joke or trick behind that. I really want to apologise in a really special way.”

He stayed quiet. I was taking this as a good sign and waited for him to answer finally to my question. I glanced at Roxy who was sitting quite close to me to follow the call.

“Ok I will be there in an hour. No tricks, Sarah. Otherwise this would be then the last time we see each other.”

“No tricks” I said with a warm tone until I hang up "You better hurry up. We need to be at the pier in one hour.”

“Haven’t you said to Brian he should be alone? I assume he expects the same from you, Sarah.”

“He won’t be alone, neither will be me. You will be hiding closely and when I will be giving you the sign you will come out and just follow my instructions, ok?”

That was too damn easy for me. I expected some long discussion on the phone. Neither he was expecting what I have planned or just followed blind all the things I’m asking him for.

Almost one hour later I was waiting at the pier, dressed up still in my uniform because I knew that he would love the view. Roxy was waiting some metres away. Even though the weather was really good we were the only persons right here. Good then. So there wouldn’t be any witnesses.

“Wow still that sexy officer, huh?” Brian was smiling from ear to ear.

“There are people that can’t go on tour the whole time. They have work to do, but that’s not the reason we are here I guess.”

“Nope you wanted to tell me something” he put his hands in his pockets.

“The game I was playing was really childish, I know that. But you really should know that I was jealous about you and Zacky. You’ve spent more time with each other than you spent with your fiancé, which is me. I only want you for myself, is that so stupid?” I was coming closer but saw him taking the same steps back as I was walking towards to him.

“Well it is stupid to force me to spend time with you while I can’t make my own decisions. It makes more fun when I feel free like a bird and not stay in the cage the whole time. You set far too many boundaries in our relationship.”

“You don’t want me back?” I was confused about this outcome.

“No Sarah it is over. I just came here to hear your words, not to go back to our miserablerelationship. Let’s be honest the last months were really boring for both of us.”

“Well” I put the hands on my waist “I also said you should come alone” I pointed at Zacky.

“If you already set rules, you need to follow them as well” he winked at Roxy that was already coming closer.

“I set the rules and I decide how this ends” I pulled out the gun that I was still carrying around with me.

The target was Zacky that had raised up his hands looking completely shocked about the gun in my hand. Well you both really didn’t expect that, neither was me, but that was my plan B.

“Do you have anything to say to Zacky before he will be killed in front of everyone here?”

“Have you lost your mind?” Brian was just standing there gesturing with his hands.

“That’s my little revenge of what you both have done to Roxy” I pulled the trigger but saw Brian trying to cover Zacky completely while the bullet didn’t hit the target, it hit Brian’s shoulder.

“You bitch” Zacky stood up, running to me but I pulled up the gun again.

“There is still one last bullet. You better watch yourself Mr. Vengeance” I looked at Zacky with one eye, while the other one was focused on Brian that was curled up in pain.
