Sweet Things

Hearse

Hannah
Jimmy and I were sitting on the towels while Zack and Erin spoke, I made sure Jimmy was distracting me so that I wasn’t listening in and reading minds.

“So, you think we’re almost done with the song?” He asked.

“I’m pretty sure, I just gotta get the last verse perfect and then we’re good to go,” I smiled up at him.

“Some of our best work, is that what you wanna do?” He asked.

“What do you mean?” I asked him, furrowing my eyebrows a little at him.

“As a career, when we’re done with school, do you want to be as lyricist?”

“I’ve never really thought about it,” I admitted “I haven’t ever really wanted to be anything other than normal,” My smile was soft and a little sad, but Jimmy tilted my face up so that I looked back at him, I hadn’t realised I was staring at my hands, playing with the sand until he did. Then, he was leaning in to kiss me, but before our lips could touch, I noticed Zack and Erin hugging.

Erin pulled away from Zack and my instant reaction was to jump to my feet, in case I needed to run over there and protect her. Her hand was pressed against her forehead and she was swaying a little. She looked at Zack with terror in her eyes, and then to Jimmy and I. I tried to take a deep breath, but I couldn’t, it felt as though some force was wrapping itself around my neck and squeezing, but only for a minute until Zack started shouting.

“Hannah, help!” He yelled and I managed to take a deep breath, like a gasp, before I started running down the beach to where Zack was standing with an unconscious Erin leaning against him.

“What do we do?” Jimmy asked, coming up behind me.

“Get her in my car,” I ordered “Lay her down in the back and get in with her, support her head, something happened here, she saw something, wed gotta go!” I was yelling and already running back up the beach, grabbing the towels and bags while I gave my orders to Zack.

We’d gotten into my car and I drove away from the beach as fast as I could, heading in the opposite direction of home, something was telling me that whatever Erin had just saw had something to do with the reason she wasn’t sleeping, she was keeping it from me… And a knot formed in my stomach when I thought that maybe it was also something involving whatever came into my room the other night.

I’d succumbed to the tears and the fear while speeding down a long, empty road and pulled into a layby at the side of the road. Dropping my head onto the steering wheel and let the sobs rack my body.

I let Jimmy rub soothing circles on my back and rest is forehead on the side of my head and whisper soothing words in my ear until I stopped crying, sat up straight, wiped my eyes and took a few deep, calming breaths.

“There’s something she isn’t telling me,” I finally said, looking at my unconscious cousin in the back seat with her head resting on Zack’s lap.

“You know how to wake her up, right?” Zack asked, worry lacing his tone.

“I’ve never had to before,” I groaned “She’s never been out for this long before, not around me anyway,”

“Then what the fuck do we do?” He asked impatiently.

“You can shut up, that would fucking help,” I snapped at him before turning back around and staring out the front window and into the distance, along the long and empty road “We need to go home,” I whispered.

“Why?” Jimmy asked softly “What’s the matter?” He asked, noticing the look on my face.

“My uncle is still out of town for a couple more days, I need to get her back to her place, she has more books than I do and notes on everything, I can wake her up if she hasn’t woken up by the time we get there,”

I started the car again and sped off, turning us around and heading in the direction of home.

“It’s too fucking quiet,” Zack complained “Can we get some music on in here to stop me from slitting my own throat?” I looked at Jimmy who was already looking at me and nodded, giving him the OK to put something on.

“You got any CD’s?” He asked, digging through the clove compartment.

“They’re all in my house,” I told him “When my car goes to the shop I take everything out of it, find something on the radio,” He said nothing else, only started flicking through the radio stations, but every station was static.

“What the…” He trailed off, pressing buttons “I never took you for the type of person who wouldn’t have a functioning stereo,”

“Fuck that,” I scoffed “It’s the one thing in this car that works properly,”
It was weird that every station Jimmy tried to put on was static, even the popular ones, and we weren’t in the middle of nowhere, I’ve been further out than this and the radio still worked. Something was definitely wrong.

“Speed it up,” Zack said suddenly “She’s getting restless, something’s happening,” I glanced in the rear view mirror and saw Erin’s face twist with something close to pain as she wriggled around.

“I’m not going any faster than the speed limit,” I told him “One more ticket and my dad will have my keys,”

“Come on,” He pleaded “There’s no one on the road,”

I looked in the mirror again and saw a car coming up behind me.

“Check again,” I told him “Could be the cops, and this is a car full of teenagers, we’re bound to get pulled over any way,” I laughed a little, I always hated being pulled over, it made me nervous, but being a young girl driving around in a Chevy Impala, they were bound to think I was smoking something.

“Hannah?” Jimmy asked, his voice sounding worried.

“Huh?” I glanced over at him and saw him looking in the wing mirror “Jimmy, what’s wrong?” I asked.

“That car is coming up pretty fast…” He trailed off, I looked over my shoulder and saw that the car was really gaining on me “For a hearse,”

With each passing second the vehicle got closer to mine, and the closer it got the more details I could work out. Panic started to set in and I got lead foot, slamming down on the accelerator and trying to get as much speed as I could, the speed the hearse was going was certainly unnerving and I didn’t like it one bit.

The hearse was black with a blacked out windshield, the curtains drawn at the back and it was dirty, looked like it hadn’t been washed in forever. The end of the licence plate caught my eye though, every time I looked back at it through the mirror, it jumped out at me; LUCI4

“Lucifer?” I whispered to myself, furrowing my eyebrows. I was staring at the road ahead of me, trying desperately to ignore the car that was now almost right up my ass.

“HANNAH!” Zack yelled, just a millisecond before the back end of my car was rammed by the asshole behind me and the radio turned on although there was no one touching it.

Witchcraft started to play at full volume, and no matter how much Jimmy tried, it wouldn't turn down or turn off.

“Fuck!” I squealed, catching the car as it started to spin a little from the force of the hit “Go around me you jackass!” I yelled, looking at the car in my mirror again, waving my hand out the window, signalling for this person to drive around me, but I was only rammed again “Fuck off!”

The hearse was beeping really loud over the already too loud music, the horn was a horrifying sound. He was swerving from side to side as though trying to get around me - although there was enough space for him to do so – and then pulling back in right behind me and bashing the back of my car. I was petrified.

“Slow down and let him fucking pass you!” Zack yelled.

“I’m trying!” I screamed back.

"JIMMY!" Zack roared "Turn off the fucking music!"

“Pull up!” Jimmy yelled over my yelling and Zack’s yelling and the music, but his voice sounded terrified “Please, Hannah, just pull the car over and let this guy past,”

I did as he asked and swerved to the side of the road quickly, but with the speed the hearse was driving at, it hit the side of the back of the car and spun the car so we were facing the wrong way, the music cut off suddenly while the hearse sped off.

“What the fuck was that?” Zack asked.

“The vehicle choice for assholes and serial killers,” I breathed heavily and attempted to laugh “I swear to fucking Christ, if my car needs to go back to the shop again, I’m going to find that asshole and smash his fucking lights in,” I was shaking as I turned the car and drove off again.

We finally got back to Erin’s house and Zack carried her inside while I went down to the basement where her dad made her keep all of her craft things that would take up too much room in her bedroom. Jimmy came with me to help me carry the stuff I needed back upstairs.

“You sure we have everything?” He asked jokingly as I looked over all of the items that he was struggling to carry in his arms.

“I think so,” I nodded once, picking up the box of some other things that might help and carrying them upstairs, Jimmy followed.

“What is all this stuff for?” He asked, sounding genuinely interested. I was pleasantly surprised that he was getting into this, of course it was going to be scary for him sometimes, but he seemed to be taking an interest.

“I need her as calm as possible, so I’m gonna light a few candles, say a few things, make the room smell nice and then read her mind, find out at least some of the stuff she’s been keeping to herself,” I told him, quickly as we reached the top of the stairs.

“Hey,” Jimmy whispered, making me stop in my tracks and turn to face him “Thanks for telling me everything,” He smiled softly.

“Of course,” I smiled back.

“And for dumbing it down when you do, but if you wouldn’t mind… I was wondering, since you’re just starting to really get into this and open up to what you can do, I’d like to learn with you, help you work out just how amazing you really are,”

Erin’s room looked like some kind of… alter room or something once Hannah was done lighting all sorts of different candles and incense and turned out all of the lights.

“This is some creepy looking stuff…” Zack trailed off, pacing around the room, he sounded terrified, but I thought it was so cool.

“Would you calm down?” Hannah asked “I need everything and everyone in here to be as calm as possible for this, one little fuck up and… I don’t know what might happen,” She admitted.
Hannah reached into her back pocket, pulling out a necklace with what I believed to be a pentagram on the end of the chain, it was silver with a green jewel in the middle of the star.

“Why do you need that?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Zack butted in “Isn’t that some… evil shit?”

“No,” She laughed softly “Everyone seems to think that it is, because of all these fucking hipster douchebags, but really, it’s for protection,” She secured it around her neck and fiddled with it on her chest a little “Although I’ve never really used it, and never actually wanted to, I charge it with the power of the moon every time the moon is full, it gives me more protection when I wear it and it gives any… spells more power,”

Zack sat on the floor beside me, his back against the wall like mine and brought his knees up to his chest, while I sat with my legs crossed and relaxed, he looked like a nervous wreck. But we were both taking in everything Hannah was telling us.

“Alright,” She exhaled “Can I just ask you guys not to say anything, not to… do anything, just sit there and be completely silent,”

We both nodded.

She lit the final two candles she had, the two gold candles, and placed them on either side of Erin’s bed, closer to her head, poured some sea salt into her hands, cupped them together and whispered something into her hands before pouring it in a circle on the floor around the bed – anyone could tell you that was for protection – and then she closed her eyes and tilted her head back, pacing her hand over the pentagram.

“Magical power is here this hour; illness is gone; there shall be none,”

As soon as the words left her mouth, the pressed her hands to Erin’s forehead, furrowed her eyebrows with concentration and took a deep breath and her body stiffened.

After a few minutes of neither Erin or Hannah moving, it was starting to get unnerving, but just as I was about to get up and do something, Erin sat up in her bed and took a huge gasp of air at the exact moment Hannah went flying across the room, crashed into the wall and fell to the ground, screaming and writhing in pain.

“Hannah?!” Erin’s voice sounded terrified as she jumped out of bed, reaching Hannah at the same time I did “Hannah, what’s happening?”

“It burns!” She cried.

“What burns, baby? What burns?” I asked.

“My back,” She whimpered.

“Hannah, honey, I need to take your shirt off, okay?” Erin asked. I stiffened a little bit, I hadn’t seen her without a shirt yet, she kept the loose fitting t-shirt that she had on now, on at the beach today and I hadn’t thought anything of it. But she nodded and allowed Erin to pull the shirt from her skinny frame, revealing her bikini clad torso “Holy shit,” Erin whispered, her hand reaching out and grazing Hannah’s back, only causing more screams of pain to erupt from her mouth as she clawed at my t-shirt, pulling me to her and burying her face in my chest.

“What is that?” Zack asked, stepping closer. I took the chance and looked over Hannah’s head to see her back, only to see four slashes, seemingly caused by some kind of animal, covering almost her entire back.

“Did she just get these?” I asked, but Erin shook her head.

“She’s had them since last week, she thinks something was in her room the night before the party, her stuff was everywhere and she had these, but neither of us are experienced enough in other supernatural beings to know what could have caused it,” She gestured for me to move her to the bed and asked Zack to go downstairs and get her two glasses of water “I already tried to take it away, but the marks won’t budge, we have to let them heal on their own,” She told me
“Hannah, do you have the cream with you that I made for you?”

“It’s in my bag,” She groaned into Erin’s pillow. Erin called down to Zack to bring up Hannah’s bag. A moment later, he returned with everything she had asked him to bring. She downed one glass of water and gave the other to Hannah before applying the green paste-like substance to the wounds.

“Hannah?” Erin whispered.

“Hm?”

“Do you know who… Sebastian is?” Hannah stiffened at the words under my gentle touch and then sat up, reached down to the floor and into her bag, coming back out with a picture.

“No, but this was in the wreckage in my room the other morning,” She handed over the photograph.

“Our moms faces are burned out…” Erin whispered, trailing her fingers over the burned marks where their mothers faces should be “Was this picture always like this?” Hannah shook her head.

“Just when I found it on the floor in the morning,” She told her.

“I’m getting something from the picture…” Erin trailed off, running her fingers over the burned areas of the picture again “Whoever Sebastian is, he has some supernatural pet and he sent it to sniff around your room the other night, he’s the voice I’ve been hearing and it was him on the way home today,”

“Why did you keep that from me?” Hannah asked “About the voice? I told you about something being in my room the morning after, you needed to know,” Hannah looked sad, betrayed.

“You didn’t need to know about the voice, not yet at least,”

“Why?” Hannah laughed sarcastically “Because you could handle it on your own?” Erin just looked down at her lap “That’s what I thought,” Hannah stood from the bed and slipped her t-shirt back on and tucked it into her high waisted shorts.

“Hannah-“

“If either of you need a ride home, come with me now,” Hannah said to Zack and I, cutting Erin off. Hannah picked up her bag, took the picture back from Erin and calmly left the house, I followed her and Zack stayed with Erin, who had an extremely guilty look on her face when I glanced back.

Not very much was said in the car on the way to Jimmy’s house from Erin’s. I was pissed off and Jimmy could tell, and I was grateful that he wasn’t asking questions and pushing me, because I don’t think I could answer him if he asked me anything, because I didn’t know what to do or think.

When I pulled up outside Jimmy’s house I cut off the engine and sat back in the seat, tilting my head back to look at the roof for a second before rolling my head and looking at Jimmy, who was already looking at me.

“What are you thinking?” I asked, a small smile tugging at my lips.

“Are you going to be alright?” He asked “Going home alone, I mean,”

“Hey,” I smiled softly, almost weakly “My dad will be there and… I’ll text you, alright?” He nodded and lifted his hand to my cheek, brushing his thumb along my cheekbone before leaning in and gently pressing his lips against mine in a somewhat passionate kiss.

I could get used to this, although I don’t think that I ever will, but every time Jimmy touches me, especially when he kisses me, my whole body comes to life, and I feel like I’m on fire… I’d have to be careful with that.

“I’ll see you later,” He whispered against my mouth “Let me know that you get home safe,” I nodded silently and let him get out of the car.

I would tell you that I wasn’t worried I’d put his life in danger, but I’d be lying… and we all know I’m a terrible liar.

I pulled into the driveway beside dad’s car, just as some flashy red car pulled away from the curb outside.

“Who was that?!” I called to dad who was standing on the steps outside the house as I pulled myself and my bag out of the car.

“Darla,” He smiled at me when I reached him. When I saw him under the light above the door, I noticed the messy hair, the lazy smile and the fact he was wearing his robe.

“Eugh,” I gagged “Please tell me you two kept it in your bedroom and that the kitchen is still safe to eat in as well as the sofa still suitable to sit on,” I shoved past him and inside.

“What’s the matter with you?” He asked. I could hear the frown in his voice as he followed me inside and shut the door “Did something happen today?”

“No,” I answered a little too quickly.

“Hannah, you have to tell me,” He said, placing a hand on my shoulder without forcing me to face him “If something is getting out of control again, you have to tell me so that we can get you help again,”

“Why?!” I snapped, whipping around to face him “Why have you always tried to suppress what I am?” I asked “You never let me embrace it, you made me scared of it, not mom dying and not me… it was you!”

“What are you talking about?” He asked “I did nothing of the sort,”

“You weren’t exactly happy about mom being a witch, and I understand that you didn’t realise it would be passed onto your children, but you loved both of us and despite that you didn’t like mom teaching me to use what I had, you let her do it so that she was happy, and then when she died, you didn’t let me continue lessons with Erin, you didn’t let me do it for myself,”

“You went off the rails!” He snapped, his face turning red “You burned everything in your path, you’re lucky you weren’t locked away in a padded cell!” My jaw dropped, and as soon as it did, his face softened again “Hannah-“

“You’re not the only one who lost them!” I screamed “I lost my aunt, my mom and my baby brother!”

“You don’t think I know that?” He asked softly “My wife and her sister died and I never got to meet my son, he was never born...”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying not to cry or lose control.

“There’s something you’re not telling me, you know something that I don’t… but you’re going to tell me sooner or later,” I turned to walk away, half way up the stairs I stopped and called down to him “And if that woman is coming back here, at least have her here when I’m not!”

“You’re meeting her next week,” He called back “She’s coming for dinner… and she’s bringing her kids,”

“FUCK!” I yelled, entering my room and slamming the door behind me.

I sat at my desk and plugged my phone into the charger while turning on my computer.

Home safe, what are you up to? – H

I hit send on the text to Jimmy and logged into my computer, it didn’t take long for him to call me back.

Glad you’re safe (: Just watching TV, you? – Jimmy

Research – H

On? – Jimmy

I want to find whoever that was today, it could have been the guy E was talking about – H

I typed in everything I could think of, until finally entering Supernatural, Hearse driver and hit search and hundreds of results came up.

I clicked the first one, a supernatural fanatic’s website… and guess who ran the site. Tori.

I clicked on the ‘contact me’ tab and it linked me to her instant messenger, where I wrote her a message.

Tori, it’s Hannah Samuels, I need to know everything you can tell me about a dirty hearse. Supernatural, or just an asshole driver? - HS

She replied almost right away.

The hearse driver is known to be an erratic driver, scaring the driver and passengers in front of him while he blares his horn. But the driver is most likely not your average angry male driver, he may be a witch hunter, the biggest witch hunter known in the supernatural realm, he isn’t just a man who knows about and hates witches, he is another being, an unknown being. Be careful, Tori x

I swear my heart stopped beating, but I had a horrible feeling. I stood and walked out of my room and onto the landing, looking out the window to the street outside.
The hearse was sitting on the other side of the street.

I was watching Family Guy and laughing along with it. I knew I should be working on the song for music class or something for the band, but after the events of today I just really needed to unwind.

Hannah hadn’t responded to my last two messages, but then my phone started ringing on my chest.

“Hannah?” I answered on the third ring.

“Jimmy, he’s here,” Her voice sounded terrified “The hearse is sitting on the other side of the street,” She whispered “And I can’t tell if he’s inside the car or not,” Her throat was closing up and I could hear that she was about to cry.

But the next thing I heard was her gasp and then I knew she’d heard something, then, there was a loud crash from her bedroom and her screaming before the sound of her phone hitting the carpeted floor of her bedroom.

“Hannah?” I asked, but the only response I got was a deep, dark laugh and an animalistic growl from the other end of the phone before the line went dead. Sebastian and whatever had shredded Hannah’s back.

The next number I dialled was Erin’s as I shrugged on my jacket and jumped into my shoes, running out of the house.

“Hello?” She asked, sleepily.

“Erin, get to Hannah’s place, now!” I ordered as I jumped on my bike and revved it to life.

“What, why?!”

“He’s there!”

Notes

So, this chapter is pretty long! Sorry! But I had so many ideas for this chapter thanks to Erin's amazing last one!
Looks like Hannah's not happy about Erin keeping secrets.
Unborn baby brother? Looks like Hannah's mom's death was harder to deal with than we thought.
What are they going to find when they get to Hannah's house?
ENJOY!! <3
More to come from the amazing E later!
