You'll learn your lesson, but first you'll fall..

As I continued to think about what was going on, I started getting more and more panicky. What if this person arrived in my room? What was I to do? How was I supposed to protect my small bump? What if she hurt one of the guys or Matt? I kept seeing these horrible scenarios of one of them being shot. I knew it seemed far fetched, but whoever this person was wanted me dead, and attempted to kill me, so obviously, they were malevolent and ruthless.

I was about to cry when I heard my door open, making me jump about 5 feet off the bed. I looked up, and sighed in relief, seeing my mom walk in. Wait, my mom? I was in Poland, how could she be here? Okay, time to act like you and your friends' lives haven't been threatened.
'Mom?' I said, my bottom lip starting to tremble.
Without speaking, my mom rushed over to the side of my bed, eyes red raw from crying, and pulled me into her arms, hugging me tightly.
'Oh, my baby. My poor, poor baby.' Mom cried into my shoulder, as she hugged me.
I didn't even notice Matt and John (my mom's boyfriend) until I looked behind her.
When Mom stopped hugging me, she stood back, to hold both my arms with her hands, looking at me.

'Why would anyone do that to you?' She said, tears welling up in her eyes.
I was borderline sobbing at this stage. 'How did you find out?' I whispered, trying my hardest to stop my voice from breaking.
'I called your mom as soon as we got in the ambulance. You were basically unconscious.' Matt said, and explained himself, thanks to the look I gave him. He knew I hated worrying my mom. 'I had to, El. The paramedic was asking me all these questions about medical history, and I was clueless, so I had to. I've been ringing her a few times too, explaining what was going on.' He had his hands up in the air.
'Oh, okay.' I nodded, wiping away my tears. 'Thank you for coming, John.' I smiled at my mom's partner, who leaned down to give me a hug.
'Don't be ridiculous, Eleanor.' he sighed, before pulling away. Mom was still standing at the side of my bed, staring at me sadly.
'Mom, it's okay.' I whispered. 'I'm here.' I smiled up at her. Then it hit me; she didn't know I was pregnant. Shit.

'Um, sorry gentlemen, but could you give me and mom some privacy for like 5 minutes?' I asked Matt and John. They both nodded immedietaly and walked out together. I just hoped they would be okay..
Mom looked at me weirdly. 'What's wrong, baby?'
I gestured for her to sit down at the edge of the bed beside me.
She sat down, and I held her hands.
'Mom,' I smiled, 'I'm 4 months pregnant.'
Mom's face turned white, but then lit up. 'Oh, El!' she beamed, grabbing me and pulling me into a huge hug. 'I'm so happy for you, baby! But why didn't you tell me?'
'Well, because of what happened last time, I was anxious to tell anyone, in case, ya know.. But this little fighter made it through everything.' I patted my stomach.
Mom shook her head, smiling. 'I'm so happy for you and Matt, babe.'
'Thanks, mom.' I beamed back. 'Speaking of babies and cravings, I am starving.' I sighed.
Mom then reached into her bag, producing a box. She handed it to me.
'I just picked these up in the airport, I don't know if you'll like them.'
I opened the box, and there were 4 delicious looking cupcakes, with swirly icing on them.
'Oh, my God, thank you, mom! Perfect!' I said, giving her a kiss on the cheek, before taking a bite out of one. Delicious.

As I chewed, taking in the flavour, I suddenly got a strong wave of nostalgia, and just like in That's So Raven or something, I saw myself eating the cupcake on the plane last night, then saw how I got the cupcake - off the fan. Then I realised - the cupcake was the only thing I ate since well before the show - so it was the only thing I ingested.. the cupcake was laced with rohypnol! Of course; how could I be so stupid?
Almost high fiving myself on the inside, I turned to mom;
'Oh, Mom, these are gorgeous. Have one!' I pushed the box towards her, and she mulled the thought over for a moment.
'Hmm.. Oh, I'm so hungry, I'll just rob one.' She sighed, taking one out of the box.
'So,' I said, between chews, 'it's like 6 now, you found out at about 1 last night, which is 7pm in Orange County.. What did you do when you found out?' I asked.
'Well,' mom sighed. 'I told John, between the sobbing and panic attacks, and he immedeatly rang the airport and asked when their next available flight to Poland was; he explained the situation, and thank God, there was some sort of cancellation or something, so we got in for a flight at 5am. It took 6 hours to get here, meaning it was actually 5pm here, which is really confusing.. but anyway, we found ourselves a hotel, dumped our bags, and here we are.' she smiled.

After about an hour more of talking to mom and pretending to be interested in the conversation when really, all I could do was think about what had happened earlier, her and John then left.
'Take care of yourself and your little one. I'll be in to you tomorrow again, okay?' She said to me.
'You take care of yourself, mom.' I said. If only she knew how much I meant it. 'Thank you. I love you.'
'I love you too, babe.'
John gave me a hug, then shook Matt's hand. As she left, she gave Matt a quick hug, before going.
Okay, time to get cracking.
Matt was in a chair beside me, but wasn't paying attention to what I was doing on my phone, so it was fine. I really didn't want him finding out about the phonecall, he'd have the fucking FBI involved before I could say the word 'stop'.

I went onto Instagram, and went straight into the direct message feature.
I selected 'new direct message' and had the recepient as 'zackyvisthemanforme'.
In the message, I said:
'Hey! Just curious, where did you get the ingredients for the cupcakes you made? They were gorgeous!
Thanks a million, Eleanor x'
I pressed send.
I knew that fan wasn't the one who put the rohypnol in the cupcakes. It couldn't have been, judging by her Instagram, which was literally filled with photos of me, talking about how 'perfect and beautiful' I was. It wasn't her. There had to be some sort of explanation.
'Babe, I'm gonna go get some coffee, okay? You want some?' Matt interrupted my thinking.
'Um, sure. Thanks bae.' I smiled at him as he walked out.
Again, the second he walked out, my phone rang.
Calm, Eleanor, calm.

'Hello?' I said, answering the unknown call.

'Aw, a visit from Mommy Dearest and Daddy's replacement, how cute is that?' the voice said mockingly.
Anger and fear struck me at the same time; bringing up my dad and knowing my mom was in with me.

'How did you know that?' I said calmly.

'Eleanor, sweetheart, I know everything. Like how darling husband just left your room, like how darling Mother left about 15 minutes ago, about how the rohypnol is nearly out of your system, there's about a tablet left. I know your every move. And when you're least expecting it, I will make your world come crashing down around you for what you did to me.'

Oh, my God. How did I not realise? 'Amelia, you fucking bitch.' I growled.

I heard her cackle down the phone. 'Took you long enough. But there's also gonna be another few surprises along the way that you won't be expecting, so just prepare for that. Goodbye, Eleanor, see you round.' She then hung up.
