Seize The Day

I walked into my lonely apartment and flopped back on the couch with a huff. I was so done with this whole 'dating' thing. Every guy that I've gone out with in the last 3 month's has either been a total creep, or has had more emotional issues than I do! I'm just so sick of being alone. Which is why I've let my best friend Eliza, short for Elizabeth, drag me into speed dating, and so many blind dates it makes my head spin when I even try to remember all of their names! I guess I'm just destined to be alone.

I walked into the kitchen, swung the refridgerator door open, and grabbed one of my Watermelon Four Locos out of the back of the top shelf, and slammed the door shut. Cracking the can open I took a long drink of the strong, cold liquid. Feeling fully satisfied when I sat the over-sized can down on the counter.

I kicked my shoes off, grabbed the can off the counter, and headed towards my room to get clothes to take a shower. Deciding on a deep purple lace Teddie, with black lacy boy shorts, I headed to the bathroom to take a quick shower, stopping dead in my tracks when I heard my home phone ring.

It was Eliza. I let it ring, trying to decide if I should answer it, or ignore her. I mean it was her fault that she set me up on yet another failed date, right?

It went to voicemail before I could finish deciding whether or not to answer.

"Kaydyn Rose, I know you're home! Answer the phone, I have another idea I need to tell you abou-"

"Hello?" I huffed into the phone.

"Fucking finally! I though you were never going to pick up, how was your date?"

"Terrible. Now what did I hear about you having abother idea?"

"Oh, well I'm sorry Kay, I feel so bad for yo-"

"Idea?" I asked, growing impatient.

"Oh. Right. So do you know what a pen pal is?"

"Pen pal? What does that have to do with anyth-"

"Have you?"

"Well yeah, isn't that like where you write to someone across the world or something to like learn about culture or some shit? How is that going to help me?"

"Well, kinda. The term 'Pen Pal' actually came from writing to someone in the Pen."

"The Pen?" I asked, thoroughly confused.

"Prison."

"Prison? You want me to write to someone in PRISON?!" I yelled into the phone.

"Wait, before you get angry, just hear me out. I was thinking that you could go online to the local Prison website and find someone you found attractive, that doesn't have a very horrible record, and ya know, will be out soon, like on parole or something, and maybe write to them. Ya know, find someone for male companionship. Find a Pen Pal."

I pondered this for a moment, and decided I would at least look to see if any of them were even, what'd she say, attractive?

"Yeah sure, I'll talk to you later, I'm going to get in the shower."

"Just think about it Kay."

"I will."

"I love you, goodnight!"

"You too." And with that I hung up and headed towards the bathroom to bathe.

I searched the entire website, and have only come up with one possible candidate. He fit the qualifiations to a 'T.' He was in for assaulting an officer, and was due for parole in about 4 month's. He was extremely attractive; tall, muscular, tan, his body littered with tattoos. Medium length dark brown hair, and hazel eyes. In the mug shot he was smiling, and goofing around, which caused his dimples to show.

He was perfect.

I'm not exactly sure what made me agree with what Eliza had come up with, maybe it was the alcohol that I had consumed prior to her phone call, or maybe it was just the level of loneliness that I was having to endure these days. But whatever it was that had me writing this man a letter, I was thankful for it.
