I'll Carry You Away

I pushed my way through the bar and ran out the door. I could've sworn I saw her.... I turned around the back of the building and ran into the alleyway. The empty alleyway. I looked around frantically, rubbing my eyes and running into the dark shadows.

"God dammit..." I felt the tears run down my cheeks and I let myself drop to the floor. "Not again.."

"Hello?" I snapped my head up and saw a blonde woman lurking around in the alley. "Rami?"

I wiped my face and got up from out of the corner. "Yeah?"

She must not have seen me because right when I said that she jumped. "Oh! Oh sorry I didn't see you there..."

I just stared at her with a blank expression. "Anyways, you're friend Sander left. She wanted me to find you and take you home."

"Wait... did she get a ride or something?"

"No she walked. But I sent my friend to go find her and pick her up."

I groaned. "Come on. Let me take you home."

"Thanks Val. I owe you one." I said to her as I stood next to her car door.

"No problem hun. Call me anytime you wanna talk or hang out." She flashed me a thousand-watt smile.

"Can do! See you later."

"Bye Rami!" Val called out to me while she pulled out of my driveway. I waved at her as her car disappeared down the street. It was about 11:30 at night right now and Sander still wasn't home.

"Hello?" I yelled into the empty house, hoping for an answer.

And of course, nobody called back. I sighed and trudged up the stairs. Hoping to get some sleep, I flopped onto my bed and shut my eyes.

"Jaacquelinnne." A soft voice sang to me.

I shot up and looked around into the darkness.

"Why did you leeavee meee?" It sang in a sickening voice.

"W-wha..?" What the fuck is going on? I must be fucking hammered.

"Why didn't you look for me Jacqueline? Why did you stop searching?" The dangerously familiar voice cried out.

"I... no..."

"I was scared. I was alone. I cried every night. But I had that last glimmer of hope that you'd find me and save me. It never happened Jacqueline. Why didn't it happen?!" She screamed at me. It felt like she was next to me screaming into my ear but I was all alone.

"This isn't happening... you're not real..."

My old college roommate gasped. "How spiteful! I thought you would do anything for me. That's what you said. 'No matter what happens. I'll do anything for you. Trust me when I say this Katie, I would give my life for you.'" She mocked expertly.

"I had no other choice Katie! It's been 8 months!" I cried out into the darkness.

"Maybe if you didn't get hammered and run around campus with your friends this wouldn't have happened. If I didn't have to go and look for you I might be with my family right now, meeting my baby sister. If you had texted me and told me you were okay then I wouldn't have gotten lost. I wouldn't have ventured into the bad side of town. I wouldn't have gotten taken away. I WOULD STILL BE HERE."

"I looked for days, weeks, months! Nobody had any clue where you were. You know damn well if I was with you I would've taken your place! Don't do this to me Katie..." I pleaded.

I heard her huff. "You're making this very hard for me to do Jacqueline."

"Ever since the incident I see you everywhere. I mistake so many people for you it's crazy. I could've sworn I saw you at this bar earlier. I chased you into the back alley but you were gone. Just like every other time."

"I'm leaving now Jacqueline." Katie whispered.

I turned towards her voice but still nothing was there. "No please don't! Katie!"

"Promise me one thing; Paint what your heart desires and never EVER put Sander through what I had to go through."

"I promise..." I choked out before I felt myself falling.

My eyes shot open and I frantically gasped for air. It was a dream? What the fuck did she mean by paint what your heart desires? And ne- Oh shit Sander. Shit shit shit. I checked my phone and I almost broke down right there. It was 2 am and Sander still wasn't here. Val said she left the bar at 11. What if something happened. No don't think like that Rami! Just then I heard the thing I wanted to hear most right now.

"Rami! I'm home!" Oh thank fuck.

"Sander? What the fucking fuck? Sander, it's two in the morning! I've been worried sick! Where the fuck have you been?" I screamed. I ran over to the stairs and saw Sander with her back against the door.

"It's a long ass story but like you said before, it's 2 and I want to go to bed." Sander walked into her room and I sighed.

I stalked over to my room and got into my bed. I didn't bother turning off the lamp because I was too scared to be alone in the darkness right now. I didn't sleep a wink that night.
