It wasn't out of the ordinary for Diana to be up at odd hours randomly playing notes on the piano. Tonight they had all ended up at Zack’s house for some drinks and to write some new music. It had started out fun but as the night wore on everyone slowly said their goodbyes or retired themselves to a room in the house until Diana found herself striking a few minor notes on the keys. She had always had the problem of not being able to sleep and when she did fall asleep it wasn’t for long. She’d seen the way her brother took controlled substances for his heart problem and knew she couldn't bear to fall under its spell and so night after night she fought restlessly with it.

“What’s with the sad notes?”

Startled, Diana smashed into a few keys making an ear wrenching sound. She quickly turned around to see Zacky standing against the door frame of the music room in a baggy Metallica shirt and basketball shorts.

“I thought you had passed out hours ago.”

“Nah, just went upstairs to chill. I didn’t realize you were the only one here.”

Diana stood up and took a step away from the piano seat.

“I can leave if you need me to.”

He laughed, “Really? Everyone else practically lives here too. No, just sit back down and play, I really love it when you do.”

She smiled slightly, it wasn’t Zacky flirting, it was just how he was with her. She sat down again on the seat and Zacky slid onto it as well. She traced her fingers on the keys and began to play something a little perkier than what she had before he made his presence known to her. It wasn’t long before his fingers slid onto the cool keys and played along with her. His notes seemed to match hers, just in a lower pitch.

“So tomorrow is the release date for the new album. Excited?”

Zacky chuckled. “Of course I am. Who wouldn’t be?”

Diana shrugged. “Guess that means that you guys are going back on tour again.”

“You say it like it bothers you.”

“Zacky don’t play dumb. You know how I get when you guys get drunk and sleezy with chicks on tour. But, I do have to admit it’s better than when we were on warped tour for those years.”

“I can’t decide what was the worst part of warped tours, the chicks, the hot summer days, or all of us cramped on a bus.”

“I actually had to chop my hair for the last year. It was too unbearable in Florida with my long hair.” Diana chucked and stopped playing to cover her mouth as she laughed. She turned to Zacky and tried to keep a serious face now.

“I know what the worst thing on those tours was! Your stage makeup!” and with that, new laughs and tears formed for both of them. Finally catching their breath Zacky stood up and softly ruffled her hair.

“That make up was something else wasn’t it?”

“It sure was.” She wiped her face one more time before grabbing a fresh music sheet and setting it up.

“Whatever you were just playing, it sounded good. I just came down to tell you that.”

She smiled at him as he turned his back and headed back up the stairs. She whipped the pencil out of her hair and wrote “So Far Away” on the top and began the notes she had summed together again and wrote them down. With such a good tune in her head she didn’t plan on sleeping anytime soon.

I know it's terribly short but I needed to get a first chapter out. My only problem is that I have too many ideas and not enough filler or bridges to connect the ideas so please don't get upset if you get a small chapter like this and one that is a million pages long. As with anyone else please comment or leave suggestion and especially grammatical errors or anything that can help my writing!
