“I’m gonna name our daughter Adrian. A mixture of your name and my name. How cool is that? Adrian Haner.”

What? Who is that? His voice sounded familiar….oh my God! Brian? Brian! Let me see you! Shit, why is it so dark in here? Brian! Where are you? Let me see your face!

And why are you talking about having a daughter? You sure as hell don’t get to choose the name because that will be in my department!

“Do you know I cut my finger the other day, trying to make you a soup? I know you can’t eat it but at least I can pretend like I’m eating it with you. But fuck I can’t cook.”

Really Brian? Aww, that is so sweet. I want to taste your lousy cooking, just once is enough. But please can you turn on the light? I can’t see anything! It’s fucking dark!

“Wake up baby. You’ve been sleeping for a month now. Our daughter wants to eat real food, you know.”

Our daughter? Am I...pregnant? Why didn’t I know this? Why hasn’t anyone notified me? Oh God, I can’t move. I want to look at my belly but I can’t fucking move!

“Brian, we have to go.”

“Alright, let me just…say goodbye.”

Goodbye? Brian? Where are you going? Are you holding my hand right now? I can feel it! Everything is numb to the core but I can feel your fingers! And your kiss on my forehead! Wait, but where are you going?!

“Sleep tight, my queen. I’ll be back in a week.”

It’s dark and I’m bored. I want to see things, or feel things. But I don’t know where I am and why the hell I can’t move. I need to see Brian. Whatever happened to his proposal? He didn’t finish it damn it!

Suddenly I felt a slight bump from within my belly. Oh shit. What the fuck is that? It happened again two seconds later and I was so shocked I almost jerked.

“Addie?”

I heard a voice calling my name. A woman’s voice. Who is it?

“Addie, you’re there? If you can hear me, move your fingers.”

Who are you? And how can I move my fingers when I feel numb all over?

“Addie, don’t be afraid. It’s just me, Mac. I’m here with Andy. Do you want to hear his voice?”

Mac? Andy? How are you guys doing??

“Hey, buddy. I’m here. You jerked up earlier, can you hear us?”

Yeah I can hear you loud and clear. Don’t talk so close to my fucking ear man!

“Let me call the doctor.”

Wait, Andy! I was kidding, shout in my ear if you’d like! Just don’t leave!

“I’m gonna call Brian. He’ll be ecstatic hearing this. He’s in Brazil right now, for Rock in Rio.”

I…don’t know what to say to that. I hope he won’t get ‘violated’ again. Besides, I can’t move, I’m afraid I will disappoint him when all he hear about was me jerking off my body because of a small bump in my stomach.

Suddenly a light came to my eyes, a forcing blinding white light torched me and I just wanna squint but I can’t. My eyelids are also numb. My vision was blurry as hell but I can trace a human figure standing before me.

“Hm, still non responsive. Never mind. I’ll run some tests later to see if she will respond to it. What did you see earlier again?”

“She was jerking her body like, once. And then she went back to this again.”

“Okay. I’ll schedule for a CT scan to see her brain activity for the past two days.”

“Alright. Thank you doc.”

What did I miss? Guys, I think I have the right to know why the doctor wants to take a look at my brain for once.

“Hey bro. Wanna talk to her?...No, she hadn’t woken up yet. But she moved earlier. For a little bit…Yeah? Hold on.”

I felt a cold touch against my ear, and suddenly a voice rang through it. Brian’s voice.

“Hey, baby. How are you doing? Heard you moved today, God knows how happy I am to hear this news. I hope I was there when it happened.”

My heart dropped hearing his voice sauntered in my ear. Then I felt it again, the bump in my stomach.

“Do you wanna know what happen to me today?”

Yes please, Brian. Tell me everything! My belly likes your voice!

“Our stage caught fire while we were playing Burn It Down. How ironic, huh? Luckily Arin didn’t suffer any injury but I saved the day, babe. I put the fire out, can you believe it?”

Oh God, I hope you’re okay, Brian!

“Looks like I’m the hero now, instead of you. I wanna save you again. God, please wake up, Addie.”

His voice croaked, just as my stomach bumped violently and making me shook.

“Addie?! Brian, she moved!”

Brian’s voice was missing from my ear and I heard Mac yelled happily somewhere beside me. I also heard Andy’s voice trailed off, calling a doctor. But why was it still so dark?

“Dear God, please wake her up. Please, please, please.”

He tapped his foot and buried his face in both palms, praying hard. His backpack held neatly on his back despite his leather jacket studded with silver spikes and his hair being combed up to a mohawk. He went straight to the airport after the show and after having a phone conversation with McKenna.

Holding the engagement ring in his chain necklace that he was supposed to give Addie, he prayed hard that she will show some signs of waking up today, because even the doctor wasn’t sure if their baby can hold it any longer being in her stiff body.

“Flight call to California USA, please proceed to gate A2, thank you.”

An announcement repeated through the air for over and over and in two languages, indicating that was his cue. He proceeded there with a rising heartbeat. It was partly difficult to reach the gate without being held back by his fans, asking for autographs and so on. He didn’t want to entertain them right now but then suddenly a fan girl came up to him.

“Hey, Syn. My name’s Leyla. I’m from Sao Paolo. I just want you to know that you and your girlfriend are perfect for each other. If there is God, she will be alright. Hang in there, Syn. We know you’re strong.”

Brian froze in his steps and turned around. He smiled at the fan and pulled her into a tight hug.

“Thanks, Leyla. I really appreciate that. Thanks for supporting us. You wanna take a picture with me?”

“Yeah sure.”

He only took one request from that one particular fan and then he moved on with his luggage without caring about the others who were screaming his name.

He looked up to the hospital building with a sigh. He called McKenna every now and then ever since he landed here, and the answer is still the same. Addie hadn’t woken up yet and plus, she had to attend her classes. Nevertheless, Brian dragged his luggage and hoisted up his backpack towards Addie’s floor wearily.

When he arrived at Addie’s ward room, the first thing he did was dropping off his bags. His jaw dropped too as he saw her bed was empty. Sheets were tangled, pillows dented and the IV stand was missing.

He went to the nurse counter, having a panic attack and kept asking where his comatose girlfriend is.

“Relax, Mr Haner. She’s in radiology. Having a CT scan.”

“Oh thank God. I thought she woke up and left me. She wouldn’t do that, right?”

The nurse didn’t reply, she just glared at him awkwardly.

“Right. I’ll just wait in her room then.”

A few hours later when Brian was flipping through the channel on the TV inside Addie’s room, a couple of nurses pushed a bed into the room, and Addie was still sound asleep on top of it. One of them blushed when she saw Brian stood up from the couch and offered to help.

“I can take her.” Brian gestured and smiled, making the nurse flushed even more.

Brian wrapped his arm around Addie’s knees and shoulder, lifting her up to the bed behind him. His heart broke when he felt Addie was getting lighter than her regular weight. Usually she would nag for him to eat up and gain some weight but now, he can’t even take revenge on that.

“Thank you. I’ll take care from here.” Brian smiled for the last time at the nurses and pulled the blanket up to Addie’s chest.

“Hi, you might not recognize me but I was the one who called you the other day.”

Brian looked up to the nurse who stayed behind; smiling gleefully as she let her colleague pushed the empty bed out of the room.

“Oh hey. How are you doing?” he lured out his arm and the nurse eagerly took it.

“I’m good. I’m a big fan of your music. Great solos, amazing, really.”

“Thank you. And also thank you for taking care of my girlfriend. And for telling me beforehand about my daughter.”

“No problem, Syn. I’m Kim by the way. Just call me Kimmie. I mean, call me if you need anything, not like call me, call me. Hah.”

Brian chuckled at her nervousness. If he was his old self he would flirt endlessly with a shy girl like her but he thanked God he changed after he met Addie.

“Okay, Kimmie. I’ll call you if I need anything.” He winked.

The nurse jumped happily out of the room, leaving Brian staring at Addie intently.

“Why do I get the feeling that you’re rolling your eyes at me now?”

He leaned over, running his hand through her hair while at it. His eyes traveled around her face as he kissed her eyelids softly.

“Don’t worry Addie. I’m still yours as long as you’re still mine.”

He trailed kisses down to the tip of her nose and finally landed on her lips. It was a cold kiss, but he patiently savored every bit of her lips, picturing she would somehow opened up an access for him to reach in. But no, she didn’t. He pulled apart; a drop of tear fell along his cheek and finally dripped onto her skin.

“Baby, I miss you so much. Please come back.”
