Hail To The King

Thirty-Nine

Joe loaded his gun and sipped it carefully inside its shaft. As soon as Andy gave out that information about Michelle, his assumption fell into place. He was right all along. Nobody knew he was actually a double agent. He took the babysitting job of protecting Brian simply because he wanted to know whether his main suspect really did commit any crime or not.

So far he took interest in the case of Jimmy Sullivan who mysteriously died of wrong mixture of drugs and medical prescription. The world took it as a suicide attempt but not him. Joe was seriously looking into this since 2 years ago. The only clue he had was the report from autopsy which indicated that the drug was found within Jimmy’s body could not be easily obtained. According to his informer who was also a drug dealer – Michelle was the last one to buy the drug from him.

He’d been following the case up until here.

Joe was actually part of the DEA – Drug Enforcement Administration. He’d been a double agent in PAI – Private Agency of Investigation for almost 2 years. He became a partner of Andy and from there he met Addie where things led to another.

He looked at the photos on his wall for the last time. All of them were Michelle’s photos when she was together with Brian. He’d been eyeing her for too long now. The airport assassination attempt, her own suicide attempt and then the death of the prisoner. Everything fitted. She was trying to run away and covering her tracks while at it.

He got himself an arrest warrant after Andy showed him the videos recorded from Brian’s house and the prison cam, and today couldn’t be a better day for him to do his job.

She sucked her teeth, watching her irate twin sister paced around in her wedding dress. Michelle pressed her temple with her scrawny fingers, her mouth had been cursing nonstop.

While Valary chose not to interfere. She texted with her husband earlier, forcing the truth out of him. At first Matt refused to tell her anything but after a few threatens from her – no sex for a month being one of it– he finally gave in.

Valary didn’t feel surprise at all when Matt said that Brian might have eloped with Addie. That was the only thing that Brian should do. She didn’t want to see the both of them suffer for an unrequited love, be it her cruel twin sister or the womanizer Brian.

Minutes after a few more curse words from Michelle, Lacey and Gena came barging in.
“Well??” Michelle urged, eager to know the answer.

Both Lacey and Gena shook their heads. They went to their significant other and found out that the boys were doing actually nothing to search for Brian. It was like they didn’t want the wedding to happen anyway. Michelle pressed her stomach and clasped her mouth swiftly.

“Chelle! Are you okay??” Gena went towards her firsthand, when she saw that Michelle was about to fall.

“I..I think I’m gonna be sick.”

“Oh God, pull yourself together Michelle! Just cancel the fucking wedding! Brian is not the one and he will never be!” Valary stood up straight and roared, making the entire room to fall in silence. Michelle slowly got up from Gena’s arms and went towards her sister.

“Do you know how much money I spent on this fucking wedding, Val? DO YOU?! YOU DON’T BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T SPEND AS MUCH!”

“Oh now it’s about money? You want to marry him for his money? Is that what you really want, Michelle?!”

Valary was shaken, her voice trembling to reach the high octave, meeting her sister’s pitch. It’s true that she didn’t spend much money on her wedding since Avenged Sevenfold hadn’t really broke through like now. They still had to struggle for fame so she would just settle in a small wedding with only close friends and family. But Michelle...was something else entirely. Brian already had the fortune, plus he’s a fucking prince with a kingdom and shit. Of course Michelle would want an exaggerated wedding like this.

Michelle growled, glaring sternly at Valary then at the terrified looking Lacey and Gena.

“You guys are fucking useless. I’m gonna look for him myself!” Michelle stormed out of the room in her wedding dress, bearing the eyes of the guests towards her. She didn’t give a shit about those murmuring voices and pointy fingers, she just stomped angrily towards Matt and the guys.

“Tell me the fucking truth.” She stated, making them turned their heads to her.

“Michelle! Why are you out here? You shouldn’t be here!”

“Shut up mom! Now let me speak to these assholes. Tell me the truth. Where is Brian?!” all of them were taken aback by her yelling. Her mother gasped at her foul language and drew back, not recognizing her own daughter.

Matt exchanged glances with the guys. Ever since this morning they had been standing here, discussing the whereabouts of Brian.

“He’s…missing.”

“Don’t bullshit me! I know you know something. Spill it, Sanders!”

Matt took a deep breath and opened his mouth to speak but suddenly he saw a group of people dressed in black shirts with bulletproof vests on their body that wrote DEA and they were approaching the scene.

“Joe?” Matt whispered when the face that led them all became clear in his view.

“Miss DiBenedetto.”

Joe called from behind, making her spun her body around and reacted in panic.

“What – what’s happening?”

“I’m from the DEA. Drug Enforcement Administration. And you’re under arrest for the murder of James Owen Sullivan, two years ago.”

“WHAT?!” Matt yelled. Zacky, Johnny and Arin gasped too, their mouth ajar and their feet stuck to the ground.

“What? Me? I- I don’t..”

“You are also under arrest for the murder of Clive Falken, an imprisoned assassin from the Cabo Airport case. He was induced with the same drug that poisoned James Owen Sullivan.”

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT – YOU KILLED JIMMY? MICHELLE?!”

Michelle was stunned, and didn’t know what to think right now. She was dragged by two other officers and her eyes were tearing apart from crying so much. She saw every faces of people that used to be around her, friends and families – and now they gave her nothing but disgusted and surprise glares. She saw her twin sister and those two girls by her side. Valary shook her head and wiped her own tears away.

“Val! Val! Don’t let them do this to me! Val! I’m sorry!”

Valary broke out in tears and ran towards her husband. Matt was still in shock, his tears fell down too without knowing. The whole wedding guests can only watch the bride being dragged away in a DEA four wheeled SUV with nothing escaped from their mouths.

Andy came bursting through the door without warning. A visitor pass clipped on his pocket, with a set of DEA officers by his side, trying to hold him back.

“Joe! Where’s my bad guy?”

Joe glanced up from reading a file and waved away at the two officers making them leave. He tossed the file on his desk and got up from the chair.

“I’m sorry Andy. This has become DEA case now.”

“Bullshit, man! We got all the evidence! Addie got all the evidence! What’s the matter with you? How long have you been a double agent?”

“A year and a half ago.”

Andy rubbed his face in agony. “How could you not tell me? I was your partner for God’s sake!”
“If I told you I wouldn’t be a double agent anymore, would I?”

Andy threw a sharp glare at him.

“Look, Andy. We’ve been eyeing DiBenedetto for a while now. Even when I was being the president’s bodyguard. No heart feelings, alright. It’s great what you and Addie had done. Been a great help to us. Thank you for that.”

“Don’t you know how much Addie wanted to catch her killer all by herself?”

“I know. But I can’t wait any longer or she would have escaped to another country, or kill herself again.”

Andy let out a big sigh. “I just hope in the hearing you will let Addie be there.”

“I will. Don’t you worry.”

Andy felt calm a little bit. He had no choice anyway. The Chief asked him to drop this case and he wondered why at first, only to find out later that the DEA had taken over all of it. He received a call from Addie earlier, saying that she wanted to get out of Cericia and back to the States. She cried in her phone call that Andy didn’t have the heart to leave her there.

“Where are you going?” Joe asked when Andy was about to let himself out of there.

“To get Addie back.”

Brian was busy the whole day. I waited in the room, deciding whether I should apologize to him or stood still with the fact that Michelle really was a criminal. I was anxious to see him again, so I sneaked into the throne room, only to find the palace workers were decorating it for the coronation ceremony and Brian wasn’t there to be found.

I wandered around the huge palace all by myself, sometimes running into guards escorting Brian to another room, with delegation from some other countries which I don’t recognize and I didn’t have the chance to call him. I need to properly tell him that I don’t mean to get him mad. And we really need to talk about Michelle.

I talked with Andy on the phone and asked him to come here because I desperately need him to explain to Brian about everything. Maybe Brian will listen to his voice of reason. Right now Andy is the only friend that I can count on.

“Miss Wayne?”

I turned and saw one of the guards was there, addressing me with curtly bow.

“The prince ordered for you to stay in the room. He doesn’t want you to wander around in the palace.”

I groaned accidentally. Only being the king for a day and he showed off his power already?

“Can I speak to him?”

“I’m sorry, Miss. You can’t. He has a meeting with the head of Finance Minister of Netherlands right now. And he will be expected to attend a formal dinner with the whole Ministry organization tonight.”

Wow. What a hectic schedule. Even tighter than his schedule as a rock star.

“Okay. I got it. Um, hey do you know how to get to the airport here?”

“Cericia is an island, miss. Airport is all the way in Netherlands. From there you will need to ride a boat to here.”

Huh. But I don’t remember taking any boats here.

“The only planes that land here are the army jets.”

Oh well, that explains a lot.

“Okay, so my friend is heading here, and I should be getting him at the airport. Can you show me how?”

The guard gave me a stern look. “But the prince doesn’t allow you to-”

“Ahh screw the prince! Just show me how.”

He stood up straight and fiddled with his glasses. “I can take you there. If you don’t mind.”

“Even better.”

The Haner families had been called upon for the ceremony tomorrow, and Brian couldn’t wait to see the reunion of his family again. His grandfather will be there, though he’s really in a weak state and couldn’t even get up from his wheelchair.

Brian wasn’t used to talking formally with these important people around the world. He had to hold back his vulgar language so many times and he wished he had the boys with him right now. The only thing he anticipated tonight was the formal dinner. He couldn’t wait to see Addie in a formal dress and to peel her out of it after the dinner ends.

He loosened his tie as he walked into his enormous room, hoping that Addie would be there for him to cuddle and let out his weary thoughts.

“Addie? Baby, I’m back. Man, I never thought that being a king has so much to do with paperworks and handshakes and-”

He stopped talking when he found that no one was in the room. The first thing he did was patted his pocket for a phone out of habit but he quickly realized that their phones went missing when they were kidnapped.

“Addie!” he called around the room, he even checked the bathroom and the small balcony window that viewed the beach in front of him.

Suddenly he heard murmurs from the bedroom door and he scurried over to find Addie was there, and beside her was Andy. Brian didn’t know why but his heart pumped in fury whenever he saw Andy’s face. He hadn’t seen him in months, and eventhough he knew that Andy was just pretending to be her boyfriend the other day, he still couldn’t erase the jealousy feeling he had for him.

“Addie, baby.” He called possessively. “Where have you been? And what is he doing here?”

Addie looked at him and her face changed. “Brian? You’re already done? I thought you had to attend dinner tonight?”

Brian folded his arms across his chest and glared at the two of them.

“So you came in to check if I’m not around, so you could be alone with..him?”

Addie chuckled lightly. “Brian, you know that’s not true. Andy is here to talk it through with us.”

“With us? What does he have anything to do with us?”

“Listen, man. I came in peace. I meant no harm to you or Addie. She is my best friend and I will be there whenever she needed me.”

Brian smirked cockily and removed his suit jacket before untying the tie around his neck fully.

“So you’re here to talk. Talk. I give you 15 minutes.”

Addie and Andy exchanged glances. They wondered whether being a king had turned him this way. Or was it because he had always been this way?

“Okay. It’s about your ex-fiancée.”

Brian groaned and sat on the edge of the bed, starting to unbutton his shirt.

“She really is a criminal, Brian. Addie told me that you don’t believe her. So I’m here to explain it to you.”

“You told him about me, Addie? How much have you told him about me?”

Addie blinked and tried to answer but nothing came out of her throat.

“Brian, listen carefully and don’t steer away. Michelle has been arrested for the murder of Jimmy Sullivan and the assassin prisoner, just this morning in your wedding ceremony.”

Brian turned his sharp gaze towards Andy.

“What the fuck are you talking about?”

Addie took a few brave steps approaching him. When she was right in front of him, he glanced up, locking his brown eyes with hers.

“Brian, Jimmy didn’t commit suicide. He was murdered. Unintentionally I hope, by Michelle.”

Brian rose up too quickly that Addie flinched in her spot. He was crazy angry, his nostrils flared and his eyes bulged, staring at the two of them.

“ENOUGH! I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR LIES! I gave myself to you and you lied to me again?! Jimmy was killed by – oh give me a fucking break! We were best friends, Addie! I knew him! He would never let himself be killed! And to think the one who killed him is Michelle? That is the stupidest joke I’ve ever heard!”

“But Brian, it’s the truth! I didn’t lie!”

“Maybe you shouldn’t be here, Addie. Maybe you and your best friend over here should leave.”

“Brian, just listen-”

“LEAVE.”

The king has spoken and there was nothing that both Andy and Addie can do besides leaving.
