Hail To The King

Andy would never look at me that way. We’ve been friends since the first day I landed a job in here. He was the friendliest towards me while the others were just…ugh. What’s up with agents and their stuck up attitudes anyway?

Besides, Andy already has a girlfriend. Duh. With a face like that, he will always have a girlfriend. Even if he’s about to break up right now, there will always another girl waiting in line for her turn.

Now where do I stand?

I’m standing behind this motherfucking slow service of a dining hall, waiting for the cook to fill up my tray. I’ve been watching Andy talking to that gorgeous receptionist for nearly two – no five minutes to be exact now. I can’t deny that there’s a bit jealousy flamed within me because he had never talked to me that way before. Smiling that charming smile, playing with her tags, touching her hair, laughing occasionally.

Okay. I admit I have a crush on him a little bit.

Fine. A lot.

Even though people around this headquarter labeled us as the dynamic duo - Addie and Andy, I should face the cold truth. He-will-never-see-me-that-way. He only sees me as one of his guy friends, or a lamp.

“Mash potatoes?”

I turned my head to the side. Nodding briefly at the cook, I glanced back at Andy again. But he wasn’t there anymore. The receptionist swayed her hips as she walked away to get back to her station, probably.

“You’re sure you can finish that, Addie?”

Hearing that voice I quickly spun around. Holy shit, that cook just piled my tray up into a mountain of mash potatoes.

“This is too much!”

“You didn’t say stop.”

I glared at him. Seriously, dude? I picked up my tray and just let Andy followed me from behind.

“What’s up? You’ve been dozing off.”

I snorted out a nervous laugh. “No I haven’t.”

“Uh, yea you have. You only have mash potatoes on your tray. There are other foods you know.”

“I like my potatoes.” I replied cockily and settled on a table behind a wall, a bit away from other’s view. Andy followed suit.

“Why do you keep sitting here? It’s dark and too far from the entrance. Not really safe if you ask me.”

“Why do you care?” I shoved a spoonful of my mash potatoes into my mouth.

“Oh stop bitching on me. I have a news for you.”

I stopped shoving food and let the spoon hung by my lips.

“What kind of news?”

“The best kind.”

I waited for him to spill. But instead he only flashed his adorable crooked smile and took the spoon off my mouth before shoving a spoonful of mash potatoes into his own.

“Dude! You’re killing me!” I slapped him on his shoulder hard, serves him right!

“Ouch! Relax will you? They will officially call you later. After lunch maybe.”

“ ‘Officially’ call me? About what?”

“You’ve been promoted to a field agent.”

I dropped my fork instantly and it landed on the floor making a loud clank, while Andy stared at me with his eyebrows elevated.

“I didn’t know you wanted to be a field agent so much.”

I snapped. “Are you kidding?! I’ve been dreaming of becoming one ever since I step my foot in here! You’re serious right now, dude?!”

“Uh-huh.” He grinned like a child that made me didn’t believe in his words one bit.

“What’s my first task?!”

Andy held out his palms towards me and leaned back, laughing. “Woah, easy there wolfie. So eager to start your first job is it?”

“You’re damn right I am! Oh Andy, if you’re telling the truth then I’m the happiest girl in the universe!”

I was high on this newly information that I didn’t realize Andy had leaned forward, his face so near to mine when I turned my head around. I gasped when the tips of our noses touched lightly and he purposely stared deeply into my eyes and kept glancing over at my lips. It was intense, how he took control over my emotion just by staring into my eyes with his beautiful dark brown irises. Are we gonna kiss now?

“Are you sure you’re a girl..?”

I blinked hard. What the hell, man? You made my heart jumped on a trampoline! Andy leaned back again, laughing uncontrollably while watching my bemused face colored in crimson. Damn, at any rate now he will realize that I have a crush on him!

“Addie, Addie. You’re like the best guy friend I’ve ever had. You have boobs, that’s a bonus.”

“Shut up, asshole.”

I stood up, leaving my mountain high mash potatoes alone and never did turn my back again. I was too embarrassed.

“Hey, Addie! Wait up! Don’t you wanna know what your first task is?”

Shit, he followed me from behind!

“Not from you, dickhead.”

He laughed slightly and I can’t stop myself from looking at his adorable face.

“Angry, are we? You’re sure you wanna continue being angry at me? Because I really do have that piece of information with me.”

I stopped walking. No way. Is he gonna be my superior? I turned my face fully at him, my brows furrowed.

“Yep. To what you’re thinking about right now.”

I didn’t know what to say to that. We’re gonna be working together? Oh Lord. My day is getting better and better!

“Andy! We’re finally working together?”

“Oh, nuh-uh. Not going to go on a field with you this time. You’re on your own.”

“But this is my first task, damn it! My FIRST task!”

“Relax, the task is quite easy.”
I narrowed my eyes at him, questioning his playful behavior and his credibility in being a senior agent.

“What kind of task is this? Don’t tell me that I have to be a bodyguard.”

“Exactly.”
