You Think You've Got It, Don'tcha?

Chapter Thirty-Two

After Zack and I arrived at the motel we walked inside and walked around. It was cheap, and it showed. After we got the keys from the man behind the counter, we walked outside across the lot to our room. It was called the Rainbow Motel and it was right by McDonald’s, so that was a plus. After we got a few hours’ sleep, we would get breakfast and we’d head out to Grand Island, which was about 45 minutes away, depending on the road you take. When we got inside I instantly fell onto the bed, groaning into the pillow. Zack looked around. . I looked at the clock on the nightstand and I could hear Zack groan.

“I should have brought my guitar.” He said, sitting on the bed. He rubbed my back and hummed softly.

“I wish you would have.. I enjoy listening to you play.” I said. He grinned.

“I know you do. It’s cute. I miss playing for you.” He said, running his hand over my back slowly. “It’s also really cute that you like me playing for you.

“I’d rather have you play for me that do anything else, honestly. It’s relaxing.” I sighed deeply, yawning. “I’m so tired.. We need to go to bed.”

He nodded and stripped down to his boxers and bent down, picking up his clothes and he folded them, stacking them on the television stand. “Are you going to need help undressing? He asked. I shook my head.

“I don’t think so. I’m okay.” I smiled. I turned onto my back and raised my hips up, pushing my shorts off and into the floor. Without hesitating, Zack bent down and picked them up, folding them as well as sitting them by his clothes. “Now come cuddle me.. I’m cold.” I said, pulling the blanket over my shoulders. He nodded and climbed into bed, pulling me into his chest.

“Your bump’s starting to show. Like a lot. Saying you’re just getting fat isn’t really an excuse anymore. I hope it’s a girl. I’d love to have one, and spoil her,” He mused, rubbing my stomach. His face lit up as soon as I nodded.

“I hope it is too. We can do girly things and she’ll be a daddy’s girl. I still can’t believe it.”

“Neither can I. Now get some rest. It’s going to be an early flight.” He said. I nodded and closed my eyes, trying to get my sleep.

*Brian’s POV*

“Where are they?” Ryden’s dad asked. He was pacing back and forth through the living room. I shrugged.

“Staying at a hotel. They have a flight back to Cali tomorrow for her doctor’s appointment.” I said, scrolling through the messages on my phone. Her dad’s eyes widened.

“Are you serious? You’re serious? They’re going back to California when they could have just went to the hospital here?!” He exclaimed. I shrugged again.

“It was already planned. Not like it was last minute or anything. I mean, if you really cared you wouldn’t have said anything about it to everyone else.” I said, looking up from my phone, raising my eyebrow. I looked over at Jimmy and Johnny, who were in the kitchen with Ryden’s mom having a glass of wine, or something. I couldn’t exactly tell. I shrugged again and went back to my phone, then looked back up when her dad started talking again.

“Who are you to tell me what I can and can’t tell my family?”

“Your ‘family’,” I said, making air quotes, “Would have found out after she had her appointment. You had no right to tell anyone, even if she was pregnant. That isn’t your god given right, and it isn’t even your place to say anything.” I stood up, looking at her dad. “I love you to death, man. But what you did really punched my nerves tonight.”

“Yeah. I realize that now.” He said. He looked over to the kitchen and sighed. “Tell them I’m going to bed. I’ll just call Ryden tomorrow and see how everything’s doing.”

“You go do that.” I said, then sat back down. He turned away, then walked upstairs. Ryden’s mom was still in the kitchen with the guys and from what I saw, it looked like she was washing dishes, and Johnny was drying them while Jimmy sat on the counter, drinking a beer. Her mom looked over at him and said something, making him laugh. I decided to join, and I walked in, grabbing a beer from the fridge and sat at the counter.

“Oh Brian. Just in time. Come take over drying the dishes. This crazy lady has had me doing this for an hour and a half.” Johnny groaned. I shook my head, popping the cap and I took a sip.

“Negative, Ghost Rider. No can do.”

“What? Why not? Jimmy, do the dishes for me.” He said. Jimmy shook his head as well, and chuckled.

“No thank you. I would rather not. Thanks for the offer, though.” He said. Johnny mumbled something, then went back to drying dishes. I stood up, straightening out my clothes.

“I think I’m gonna go see dad and Suzy.” I said, looking over at Jimmy. “Wanna tag along?”

“Yeah, man. I’ll go.” He said, jumping off the counter. “Maybe we can crash there tonight.”

“Yeah, maybe. I kinda don’t wanna get a hotel tonight. Johnny, you gonna come with?”

“If her mom is gonna keep making me do the dishes I will.” Johnny glared at her mom, and she shrugged with a smirk.

“You’re ridiculous. I never said that you had to keep drying. I didn’t say anything to you at all. You just started drying.”

I stood there and waited for the guys, then grabbed my car keys. “We’re just gonna walk. It’s down the street. We’ll be back to get our cars and stuff later.” I said. They nodded and walked out of the kitchen and outside, then instantly shivered.

“How does cold weather like this even exist, man?” Jimmy asked, pulling his arms from his sleeves to the inside of his shirt. “How were you even used to this?”

“I’ve lived here for quite a while, man. You get used to it eventually. Right smack dab in the middle of tornado alley. It’s crazy. I was thinking about going to Omaha tomorrow.”

“Tornado alley my ass. This is like Antarctica or something.” Johnny said. "Where’s your house? My nose is about to fall off.”

“My house is still just down the street. I never said how far it was. Should have brought your jacket.”

“I thought that Nebraska wasn’t going to be this cold.”

I looked at my phone and checked the weather, shaking my head. “It’s only 59 degrees out here. You’re such a baby.”

“Yes, but can you blame me?” He questioned. I grinned and I pushed him halfway across the street. He stumbled into Jimmy, and Jimmy pushed him back over to me, only to push Johnny back to him again.

“Guys, cut it out!” Johnny shouted. I snickered, shoving my hands back in my pockets.

“What are you, like, four?” I asked. He shook his head.

“Where’s your house, Haner?” Jimmy shouted. I pointed down the street.

“Few more houses down. It’s a yellow house if you can’t wait.” I said. Jimmy shook his head.

“I’d rather walk with you guys than be awkward around your parents that I haven’t met in a while.” He said. He shimmied his way over and shook his shoulders, making loud and awkward noises. I was sure that all Johnny could think about was getting to my house, because as I looked over he looked like he was absolutely freezing his ass off. By the time that Jimmy was done with his shenanigans, we arrived at my house, and I walked up to the door, opening it rather noisily.

“Briiiiaaaaaaannnnnn!” I screeched, looking around the house. The living room was empty, so I lead the other two men inside. “Make yourselves at home.” I said. “Brian! Suuuuuzy!” I called out. I heard noise coming from the kitchen, and I automatically walked there, only to see McKenna, my younger sister, making popcorn over the stove.

“I thought you weren’t going to be coming back!” She exclaimed, and she ran to me, wrapping her arms around me in a hug. I hugged her shoulders, grinning.

“Yeah, I came back with Ryden and Zack.” I said. She looked up at me.

“Ryden’s back? Is she here?” She asked. I shook my head.

“Her and Zack left to go back to California since her dad announced that she was pregnant.” I shrugged. “Zack knocked her up.” I chuckled. She gasped.

“Really? You’re serious?” She asked. I nodded.

“Serious as a heart attack.” I said, rustling her obnoxious and purple hair. She scrunched up her nose and took a step back.

“Who else is here?” She asked, leaning over to look into the living room, where Jimmy was picking on Johnny over his height on the couch. The two men had their legs crossed and Jimmy had his arm over the back of the couch.

“Jimmy and Johnny.” I said.

“Jimmy?” She asked.

“You’re too young to remember him.” I countered. “Your boyfriend around?”

She shook his head. “No, but I’m making popcorn to watch movies tonight if you and your friends would like to join. You can pick them. I was basically just gonna grab something and probably fall asleep on the couch like I have been doing.”

“You serious? That’d be great.” I stated. “Where’s mom and dad?”

“Studio recording dad’s CD. They’ve been there all day. I’ve been by myself this whole time.”

“Good. You’re 17, you need to get used to being on your own for a day or two. When are you going to be going back to school?”

“Next week. Danny isn’t gonna be back until the day before I have to go back because he’s on vacation with his friends in Rome.”

“Rome? Where’d he get the money for Rome?” I asked. She shrugged.

“Dunno.” She answered. “But he ‘needed to get away from the middle of nowhere’ for a while.” She said, putting up air quotes. I nodded.

“Ah.” I said. “When is dad gonna be back? I need to see him soon.”

“They’re supposed to be back around 11-ish.” She said. “I didn’t get a real answer.” She walked onto the living room and she sat between Johnny and Jimmy.

Johnny raised his brows. “That’s your sister? She grew up so fast.” He said, giving a fake sniffle. He embraced her in a hug, and she did nothing but sit there, with a terrified expression on her face. Jimmy chuckled and swatted at Jimmy’s arms.

“Get away, man, lemme have a go at her.” He grinned. Johnny let go and jimmy wrapped his long arms around McKenna, but she actually hugged him back. “Where’s Brent?” He asked.

“He moved out like a year ago and got his medical degree. He’s living in Michigan right now.”

“I know where we’re going next!” Jimmy declared.

“Nah, man. We need to stick to our tour schedule.”

“We’re done touring for a year, man.”

“Yeah, and we gotta use that year to start on our other album. Or did you forget?”

“Ah. The one we’re supposed to be producing ourselves. Gotcha.” Jimmy nodded.

“’Sides, I told Brent we’re coming out there next year anyways. He’s probably unprepared for us to show up all of a sudden.” I said. I walked over and sat on McKenna, making her groan and try to push me off.

"I think I'm just gonna crash on the couch. We can all sleep on the couch. We're all homo here."

"You can crash here, I'm not gonna get all close and cozy with men that are like.. two times older than I am." McKenna said, pushing me off at last. "Brian has his own room. You guys should sleep there before dad and Suzy show up and dad starts beating you with his baseball bat over in the corner."

"You still lived with your parents, Haner?" Jimmy snickered. I rolled my eyes.

"I don't have anywhere else to live while I'm here visiting Ryden a lot of the time, so I just live here." I said, shrugging. "And now that Ryden's moved to Cali, I can move back in with Matt, wherever he-"

"The fuck, Haner?" Matt asked as he burst through the door. "You guys fuckin left me to DIE there. I never thought I would be able to leave." He said, closing the door and putting his hands over his head. "Where's your room? I call the top bunk."

"You even have a bunk bed? What the hell man, are you like 10?" Johnny asked.

"Oh shut up. Let's just watch movies and eat popcorn before we have to leave tomorrow." I said.
