You Think You've Got It, Don'tcha?

Chapter Eleven

Even though I had known her for hm.. Maybe less than a day? I still liked her. Everything was just as Brian described. Down to those perfect lips of hers. What I wouldn't give to kiss those.. Mm.. I got up out of bed and I got dressed. When I walked to my bathroom, I looked at myself in the mirror, and ran my hands through my hair. I looked like a mess. From my lack of piercings down to the bags under my eyes due to no sleep whatsoever. It was hard to find a lady to stay with, and settle down with. All they wanted was sex, and my money, and eventually I got tired of that. I mean, just look at my ex. She was the worst of them, and they were all pretty bad. She didn't want kids, or anything. Didn't wanna settle down like I did, and start a family like I did. Eventually she ended up sleeping with other men to get her fix of what I refused to give her. Anyways, enough about that. My head was pounding and all I could think of was offering a drink to Ryden last night, and I couldn't remember a single thing afterwards except blacking out. With her underneath me. I don't think we did anything. We were still fully clothed in our pajamas and everything. I was just so confused. In the next bathroom, I could hear the shower running. Must be Ryden, I thought with a shrug. I grabbed my toothbrush and toothpaste and started brushing my teeth, then went downstairs. And then my phone started ringing. I didn't even hesitate to answer. I grabbed my phone, swiped the lock screen, and answered, "Hello?" "Zee, where's Ryden?" It was Brian. Probably checking in to make sure she was okay. That made me respect Brian even more, because unlike Matt, he respects the women that he hangs out with, best friends or not. Brian was always the lady's man, like me. "Taking a shower. And no, she isn't pregnant." "What the hell, Zack?" He asked on the other line. "I did not need to hear that, even though that's uh, that's good you haven't made a move on her yet." He paused for a minute. "Or did you?" I tensed up a little. Maybe I did last night. There really wasn't an explanation of why I ended up on top of her while I was, from what I think, fucking hammered. "Uh, nope. None whatsoever." I lied. At least I think I did. I didn't want to get into any trouble with Brian. Not today. It was supposed to be a good day today and I think that's what it's gonna be. A good day. I could hear the shower end, and the music that she must have been blaring to hear over the shower was playing loud and clear. Just the Girl, by The Click Five. I haven't heard them in so long, and I almost felt like singing until I remembered I was on the phone with Brian. "Zack. Answer me, man." he stated. "Huh, what?" I asked. "Oh yeah. Totally." "Were you even listening to me or what?" He asked. He sounded annoyed by my tendency to space out. Which was quite often. "Honestly? No. I was more... Focused. On something else." I replied honestly. Brian sighed. I could picture him rubbing the bridge of his nose right about now. "I asked where you would be taking Ryden for dinner tonight. Since Michelle and I are going out tonight also, I wanted to make it a double date, ya know?" He asked. Right. Dinner. Shit. I ran my hand through my hair again and sighed. "I dunno, man. I'm low on money at the moment and I get paid tomorrow night. I was going to wait until then to take her out." "Ah, nah, man that's cool. I got you covered. You're taking Ryden out tonight. Okay?" "Yeah, yeah." I answered. "Okay." "Good. Don't tell her about Miche-" "I was wondering who that was." I stated. "Who is Michelle and is she pregnant?" Brian hadn't said anything about Michelle. I mean I knew who she was but I didn't think that him, of all people, would be with her. I honestly didn't like her a lot. But I guess I have to at least tolerate her for the sake of Brian. I rubbed the bridge of my nose and watched as Ryden walked down, only a towel around her chest. I bit my lip, and turned around to show some decency. "Oh my God, I didn't think anyone was down here, I'm so sorry." She said. She sounded panicky. "You're fine, Ry." I said. I went back to Brian. "I gotta go. I'm possibly gonna score some fresh meat in about 5 minutes." "You dirty little fu-" "I was joking. Bye, Brian." I said. Then hung up. "Were you talking about me? You're fine to turn around." She said, going through her bags. I had only carried like, one to her room this morning because I got lazy. "Kinda." I admitted with a shrug. "Nothing mean. Just dinner plans." I grinned. She looked up at me and smiled. "That's great. Where are we going?" She asked. I shrugged again. "No idea." I said. "Brian and I are working that out. He's got some girl named Michelle he's been dating to come with." She instantly looked crushed, and she bit her lip. "I uh.. er.. I didn't know that." She sighed. "He told me not to tell you, but I thought why not since you're going to be seeing her anyways." "Is she at least pretty?" She asked.
