I looked at myself in the mirror. My belly was big and round. My pregnancy was coming close to end and then my beautiful baby girl will be here. My name is Ember Leanne Baker. I am married to the no other Zachary James Baker. We've been married for a little under a year now. We decided to tie the knot when we figured out little Andrea was gonna be here.

I sighed and sat down on the couch and rubbed my belly. I was feeling a lot of discomfort today. I looked at the ceiling hoping Zack would just come home already. He was out on tour and has been for three months now. I really hope the next week goes by fast because I feel like Andrea is ready to come out any time now.

Sitting down was not helping at all. I decided to walk around a little and hopefully the discomfort would subside. If not I definitely needed to go to the hospital. I felt something wasn't right. I sighed and grabbed my phone. Hopefully I can catch Zack before he gets in the show.

“Hey baby what's wrong?” Zack said rather quickly.

“Hey um I think I need to go to the hospital somethings not right.” I told him truthfully.

“What? What's going on?” He asked.

“I just have a lot of dis..” I paused at feeling my water break.

“Have a lot of what?”

“Zack my water just broke.” I started to freak.

“What are you serious!? I'm in San Diego baby hang in there. Call Val and have her drive you to the hospital. I'll be there as soon as possible.” Zack hung up before I could say anything. I instantly fell to the floor in pain. I hurried and called Val.

“Ember what's up?” She answered.

“Val can you come quick. I need to go to the hospital!” I said cringing in pain.

“I'm on my way!” She hung up. I laid in the floor grabbing my stomach. This was by far the worst pain in the world. I breathed slowly. About three minutes later Val came busting through the door. I looked up at her.

“Oh my god Ember come on let's go.” She said wide eyed. She helped my stand but it failed. She ended up just picking me up and carrying me to her car.

“Val why does it hurt so bad?” I asked as she was rushing to the hospital.

“It's childbirth.” She laughed.

“Zack needs to be here.” I cried.

“Did you call him?”

“Yes I was on the phone with him when my water broke.”

“Okay how far away are your contractions?” She asked.

“About ten minutes.” I breathed.

“Okay we got time then.” She pulled into the emergency room parking lot and carried me in there. She got a wheelchair and they rushed me into the room. The doctor asked me about my contractions and told me that I was only three centimeters dilated. It was gonna be awhile before she gets here.

“Um doctor.” I said.

“Yes Mrs. Baker?” He said looking up from what he was doing.

“I've had a lot of discomfort today. Is that normal?”

“Um yeah your body could just of been telling you that it was coming close.”

I sighed in relief. “Val can you call Zack for me please.” I asked. She nodded. She got up and walked out of the room.

Val's POV

“Hey Zack.” I said.

“How is she?” He asked.

“She's good. She's in early labor. Should probably be a couple hours before the baby is actually born. She's only dilated to a three.”

He sighed in relief. “Good I'm only thirty minutes away.”

“Wait how are you coming? You guys had a show tonight?”

“We canceled and I took Michelle's car. She was here seeing Brian.”

“Ah okay well hurry.” I said hanging up the phone and walking back into the room.

Ember's POV

Val walked back in the room.

“What'd he say?” I asked.

“He'll be here in thirty minutes.”

“What really?” I said somewhat excited.

“Yeah he borrowed Michelle's car.”

“Yay.” I sighed in relief knowing that my husband will most likely be here when I give birth to our child.

Time passed and the contractions just got worst and so did the discomfort. They wanted to give me epidural but I refused. I wanted it completely natural. Val was sitting at the side of the bed holding my hand in comfort. Oh how I love my best friend.

“Val thanks for being here.” I smiled.

“Anything for you Em.” She said. My vision started to blur a little bit.

“You okay Ember?” Val asked.

“I can't see my eyes they're blurry.” I said kind of freaking out. I heard the door open and Zack rush in.

“I'm here Ember.” He said rushing to the other side of the bed.

“Zack.” I smiled. He gave me a kiss.

“Ember what's wrong?” He asked. “Ember!” Zack yelled. “Oh my god!” That was the last thing I heard before everything went black.

Zack's POV

“Oh my god! Val get the doctor.” I yelled. Ember's eyes rolled in the back of her head and she started to seize. Oh my god I hope Andrea is okay. I hope Ember's okay. I can't lose either one of them.

The doctor rushed into the room.

“Alright we have to get the baby out of her now.” He said pushing me out of the way and rolling her out of the room. I looked at Val and tears just poured out of my eyes.

“Zack it'll be okay.” She said getting up and putting her arms around me.

“Val what if it's not.” I said hysterical. She just hugged me and cried herself. We both exited the room and went to the waiting area. I wanted the doctor to just come out of the door and tell me everything will be okay.

I sighed and sat down and waited. About an hour or two passed and the doctor finally came out.

“Zachary.” He said. I jumped up.

“Doctor is everything okay? Where's Ember?”

He held up his hands. “Ember didn't make it through the labor.” My heart fell.

“What do you mean?” Val asked.

“Well she had severe bleeding. It's one of the leading causes in maternal deaths.” I could not believe what I was hearing. My Ember was gone. My beautiful Ember was taken away from me.

“Well is the baby okay?” I found myself to ask.

“Yes she is perfectly fine. She's in the nursery if you want to go see her.” All I could do was nod my head. The thought was barely sinking in. I knew the moment I saw Andrea my life was going to be crushed. I lost the only thing in the world that mattered to me.

“Sorry for your lost.” The doctor said before turning around and leaving.

“Zack.” Val said crying. I looked at her and my eyes just swelled with tears. She hugged me tight and we both cried for five minutes.

“Everything will be okay Zack.” She tried to reassure me.

“No it won't Val. I lost the most beautiful thing in the world. I lost the one thing I loved the most. I didn't even get to say goodbye to her.” I cried.

“But you do have a wonderful baby girl to remind you of her.” She sniffled. Andrea, my beautiful baby girl. I wonder what she looks like.

“Let's go see her.” I said. Val nodded and we walked to the nursery. I walked in and looked for her.

“Are you Zachary?” The nurse asked.

I nodded. “Yes.”

“Okay. I'm sorry for the lost of your wife but I need a name for your daughter.” She said rather nicely.

“Andrea. Andrea Leanne Baker.” I said walked past her and to a baby that looked just like Ember. I picked her up and held her close. She moved her little arm and placed it on my chest. A tear rolled down my cheek.

“You're the only thing I have left of her.” I cried.
