Love Notes

I closed the laptop and put it away in my bag. Nervousness was setting in. It was down to the wire and I could feel it. Everything about me could. I was excited, but at the same time, I felt like I wanted to vomit. I hurried to fix my hair, which was impossible so i tossed a bandanna and hat on.

I sprayed myself with the cologne that I had neglected to use the night before. I couldn't find my watch. I asked Brian, if he had seen it. "No." was the reply. I searched everywhere for it. Motherfucker!! I can't find it. Fuck it. I can't be late meeting her. I grabbed my shades and took a cab to the pier.

The whole ride there, the knot in my stomach grew bigger and bigger, I wondered what she would be like in person. I'm sure she would be just as beautiful. Would she have the same humor as she did on the internet, or would she be shy? I didn't know. I was scared.

A giant part inside of me wanted to turn the car around and go back to where I was supposed to be. Shit!!! I didn't tell anyone where I was going. I guess I should call and do that, before they send a search party out. That sounds like something Larry would do. I chuckled at the thought, as I pulled out my phone and dialed Brian's number.

"Zack. Where the fuck are you?" he said. "We're looking everywhere for you. Larry's pissed.

The statement churned me even worse. I really wanted to puke now. I knew I would have hell to pay when I got back.

"I'm on my way to the pier."

"What the fuck? Why?" he spat at me.

I knew I had to tell him. He was my best friend, and obviously concerned that I wasn't around. I knew if I did tell him, he wouldn't tell anyone.

"I'm meeting someone."

"W-What? Who?" he asked.

"This girl."

"You bailed on us over a fucking girl?" he now sounded upset.

"I didn't bail Bri."

"Well what do you call it, Zack?" I felt like shit now. "You just up and leave and don't tell us where your going and we're over here looking for you, worried to death, and you ran off to the pier for some broad."

I cut in. "She's not a broad. I met her on MSN."

He laughed. "And you expect this to work out for you?"

I knew he had a point and this entire load of drama, could have been avoided. There was just something about her that made me feel that it wasn't a waste of my time, so I continued to defend her against him.

"It could. You don't know."

"Yeah. Ok. Whatever, Zack," he slurred.

His tone softened. I knew that he cared about me and I did upset him and the other guys for "bailing" the way I did.

"I'm sorry, Bri."

He sat there for a moment before speaking. "You better be back before sound check."

This made me smile. I knew that he supported me in every decision that I made. Stupid or not.

I looked out the window and I could see the pier in the distance. I was seriously going to puke now. I was so damn nervous.

"Oh God."

"What?" Brian said, from the speaker.

I had forgotten he was even on the phone. "I'm almost there, man. I'll get back to you later."

"Alright." he said. "Bye."

I closed the phone and stuck it back into my pocket. I was jittery, as we pulled up to the pier. I payed the cab guy and walked over to the rail, looking around for the face that had been burned into my mind since the day before. That's when I spotted her, walking toward me.

She was so damned cute in her shorts and black tank and chucks. She smiled as she walked toward me. I smiled back, despite the nervousness.

I didn't know where this was headed, but taking one look at her I didn't care. As long as she was with me. I had a feeling that my life was about to be changed forever. Well. That's what I was hoping for.
