Sometimes Our Saints Are Sinners (TVH sequel)

Chapter Four

I woke up the next morning feeling rather constricted. When I opened my eyes I saw why.
“What the fuck?” I mumbled sleepily as I sat up. Somehow I went to sleep by myself and woke up sandwiched between Zacky and Jimmy. I blinked against the harsh sunlight coming from my open door, and I noticed a pair of legs hanging off my loveseat. Also Johnny sleeping on my floor. “When did this happen?”
“Hm?” Zacky grumbled, his hand going to his hair, which was sticking out in every direction. “What are you saying?”
“I’m asking why in the hell do I have two men sleeping on my bed and two men sleeping in my living room?” I asked a little bit more loudly as sleep began to drift out of my system.
“Actually there are three,” Jimmy responded from behind me. I glanced back at him to see that his eyes were still closed and he was still in the same position with his arm around my waist. “Brian’s on the couch, Matt’s on the loveseat, and Johnny’s on the floor.”
“Which raises the question once again; why?” Apparently my voice echoes in my apartment, because a second later I heard a huge thump and Matt was now on the floor next to Johnny, both still completely out cold.
“Oh. Well we all were a little drunk last night—”
“Drunk? We were fucking pissed.” Jimmy laughed, his voice muffled from my pillow. Zach shrugged and looked up at me with red rimmed eyes.
“Okay, we all had a bit too much to drink with Ty and he had to take Matt’s room. So we all decided to stay in your room for the night.” Zach explained, although his voice wavered repeatedly as he spoke. I scoffed and rolled my eyes a bit before laying back down.
“And yet somehow you managed to get in here and get on my bed without waking me up.” I murmured to myself. I rolled myself over Zach and stood up, watching Zach long enough to witness him bat at me for a second and then fall back asleep. “I’m surrounded by idiots.” I tiptoed through my apartment out onto the catwalk and shut the door behind me before walking down to the kitchen, where Aunt Susy and Mom was. “Morning, guys.”
“Morning.” Mom greeted. I sat down and took Mom’s orange juice, which was barely touched. “Where are the boys?”
“Apparently they had a little too much fun with Ty and are currently sleeping in my apartment.” I frowned, not enjoying have five men taking over my sanctuary. Mom chuckled and took her juice back from me.
“Go get on the four-wheeler and rev it to wake them up.” Susy suggested, a smirk crossing her small lips. I pondered over the idea for a second before nodding.
“I’m going to go warm up for a little bit since I haven’t ridden it since senior year.” I informed them. I looked down at my attire and scoffed a bit. “I’ll be right back. I probably shouldn’t ride in silk pajama shorts and toms.”
“Probably not.” Susy laughed as I scampered up the steps. I darted silently through my apartment, grabbing my dark blue skinny jeans and converse before running back out. I changed on the catwalk since no one was around and went downstairs to get to the shop through the back.
“Be careful.” Mom called as I walked out of the back door. I trotted up the rock path to the pool and around the pool to the shop. I slowly opened the old door and entered the huge garage, which held exactly six four-wheelers. I was lucky that Uncle Wendell loved to spoil my cousins and I so he bought each of us our own on our sixteenth birthdays, which meant mine was the oldest. I went over to my cherry red four-wheeler and admired the beauty. I pulled my helmet out of its case and ran my fingers over the sleek, jet black plastic. I picked up the leather fingerless gloves from inside and slid them on before opening up the back garage door. I shoved my head into the helmet and glided effortlessly onto my seat. I stared at the controls for a minute before all memory came back and it roared to life.
“Oh I’ve missed you so much.” I said aloud as I rubbed the handles. I revved the engine for a little bit before putting it into drive and pressing the gas. I flew out of the garage and onto the dirt road, going faster than Mom or Uncle Wendell would probably like me to. When I was on the four-wheeler I didn’t even care about anything but the feeling of freedom. I crossed the grassy bridge that connected the farm to my grandparents’ 3 acre field that we use for four-wheeling. I sped across the growing grass, not bothering to see if I was pulling any up from the ground, even though I was advised not to by my grandparents. After doing a lap around the large field I zoomed back over the grass bridge and up the dirt road back to the shop. I went around it and hit the cement driveway, which led to my balcony. I revved my engine loudly and began honking on the horn that was conveniently put into my four-wheeler upon request. After about a minute of honking and revving I saw movement within my apartment and I hopped off my red machine and leaned against it. One at a time, the disheveled men came onto the balcony to see what woke them up from their much needed beauty sleep. I smirked and pulled off my helmet to speak to them. “Are you pansies going to sleep or are you going to ride some four-wheelers with me?” Excitement sparked in their pink and tired eyes as they all filed back into my house. I smirked and got on my four-wheeler to go set up the other five machines waiting for us.
One by one I pulled off the helmets from the shelf and set them with their matching four-wheelers. I put the white helmet with purple flames onto Peyton’s four-wheeler, which was a shimmering dark purple. The white helmet with black flames went on Hunter’s all black four-wheeler, and the black helmet with white flames went on Shepherd’s bright white machine. My cousin Dillon, who was unable to make the dinner a few nights ago, owned the forest green four-wheeler, and his helmet had green flames wrapping around a skull on his custom-made helmet. I pulled out Taylor’s helmet last and put the blue-flame coated helmet onto her cobalt four-wheeler. I smiled down at my plain black helmet, reminiscing on how having the different helmet had silently made me the leader of our little group of riders since I was older than the rest and a natural born leader among the family of my age. It took the men less than five minutes to throw on appropriate clothes and shoes and get up to the shop. They entered through the same door I had entered earlier and gaped at the beautiful devices sitting idly in front of them.
“Welcome to the Egger’s shop. Pick whichever four-wheeler you desire, although let me warn you the blue one goes slightly faster than the others due to some damage to the gas pedal.” The men dispersed, each immediately attracted to one specific four-wheeler. Brian obviously took Peyton’s purple, Zach took Hunter’s black, Jimmy took Shepherd’s white, Johnny hopped on Dillon’s green, and Matt took Taylor’s blue. I stood on my seat to look at each of them. “Do any of you know how to turn on a four-wheeler?” I got blank looks from inside the helmets and I smirked a bit. “On the right handle there’s a switch. Flip it.” I heard five clicks and then I nodded. “Now just turn the key.” Simultaneously the engines roared to life, which made me smile. “Okay, the gas is the little finger pedal under the right handle, the break is the metal bar under your right foot. Don’t go super fast until we get into my grandparents acreage, got it?” The five helmets bobbed and I stuck my helmet over my head before plopping down on my seat. “Let’s do this.”
I turned on my four-wheeler and quickly put it into gear, shooting out of the shop faster than before. Through the dust cloud behind me I saw each of the four-wheelers come out, one by one. I sped off of the dirt road and to the field, squealing when I flew over a pothole. Once we all reached the field the sped really picked up, each of us going a different direction. I let them all drive around to get used to their machines before I parked myself near the entrance of the acreage, waiting for them to notice me. It didn’t take long before I was surrounded by idle four-wheelers. I took off my helmet and let my hair breathe for a second before smiling wickedly at the five men.
“Who wants to race me?” All was quiet except for the wind and the engines, which made me smirk. “Ha. You all are pussies. Afraid that a twenty three year old girl will kick your ass in racing.”
“Well now you’ve thrown the gauntlet down.” Zach chuckled from under his helmet. I flicked my eyebrows at him and he shrugged. “It’s on, Caron.”
“Prepare to go down, Baker.” I put my helmet back on and put my four-wheeler back in gear. We revved our engines and I watched as Jimmy counted down from three. Once he reached one we sped off, Zach having an advantage because he was on the right of me. As we neared the trees, I slowed down and let Zach turn into the trees before me. I heard yells of protest from behind me but laughed to myself as I cut in front of the trees and picked up my speed. The yells of distress turned into cheers as I cut Zach off as he emerged from path behind the trees. I beat him to the ‘finish line’ and the four men waiting for us were cheering for me.
“You’re a cheater.” Zach accused as he pulled off his helmet. I shrugged and made a heart with my hands. He narrowed his eyes at me and shook his head. I sighed.
“Okay, fine. Next two you can’t be smart like I just was. You have to go behind the trees.” I clarified, winking at Zach from behind my mask. The other four nodded before looking at each other. “Who’s next?”
“I guess I’ll go.” Matt offered, raising his hand a bit. I looked around at the other guys, waiting for someone to step up.
“I will give the person who goes against Matt some cake.” I tempted, glancing right at Jimmy as I said so. He nearly jumped off of his four-wheeler.
“Cake? Fuck yeah! Let’s do this, Sanders!” Jimmy yelled loudly. I counted down from three and they zoomed off, Jimmy quickly overtaking Matt. They were barely visible through the trees and when they came out, Matt swiftly tried to cut off Jimmy, it ended off in a tie, which ordered a rematch. The next time Jimmy had won.
“Hey Brian,” I called as I drove towards him. He turned his head, a cocky smirk coming out from underneath his helmet. I punched him lightly and stuck my tongue out at him. “Tag, you’re it!” I slammed my finger onto the gas and headed towards the furthest part of acreage. I looked back to see that Brian slapped Johnny, yelling out tag as he quickly departed. An all out war began as Johnny chased Jimmy around, failing to catch him. The rest of us were driving in circles, staying away from Johnny while keeping him and Jimmy contained in a bowl. Johnny drove by me and I whistled, trying to get his attention. He looked at me and I made sure people weren’t watching before holding my hand out. A wide grin crossed his face and he touched my hand. “Go after Matt and I’ll get Jimmy.” He nodded before heading in the direction of the blue plastic streaking across the grass. I drove close to the white machine, which was unknowing of my treason.
“Hey Kiddy-cat. What’s up?” Jimmy asked over the loudness of our engines. I shrugged and watched Matt drive away from Johnny.
“Rather comical to watch.” I stated as we sat idly in the corner. Jimmy smiled and looked at me.
“Indeed it is. I’m just glad he’s not chasing me anymore.” Jimmy sighed. I smirked and nodded my head.
“Yeah. It’s such a shame being tagged, isn’t it?” I questioned mockingly, my body filling with adrenaline.
“It sure does.” I grabbed his arm and rubbed it gently, a wicked grin bleeding across my face.
“Hey Jimmy, guess what?” Jimmy’s eyes shot to me and I pulled away, my finger resting over the gas. “You’re it.” I once again flew through the air, my eyes targeting on the grassy bridge.
“I’m going to get you for this, Kid!” I heard from behind me. I increased my speed as I made a tight turn onto the dirt road, nearly falling right off of my machine. I heard gravel crunching behind me and looked into the mirror to see Jimmy was right behind me. I drove onto the grass towards the shop. Once I got close enough I jumped off of my four-wheeler and sprinted towards the exit door of the shop, but was stopped when two long arms wrapped around me. I screamed as Jimmy pulled me against him, his arms becoming constrictors as laughter erupted from both of us. The sound of crunching gravel met my ears and we looked to see the other four men joining us, pulling their helmets off as they walked towards us.
“This was fun,” Zach commented, a smile wide across his face. “We should do it again.” I looked up at Jimmy and mimicked his beaming smile as we nodded simultaneously.
