Sometimes Our Saints Are Sinners (TVH sequel)

Chapter Twelve

The guys and I sat around the fire pit with sweating drinks in our hands as the heat of the day began to fade. The lights on the patio shade were on, illuminating the pool deck with bright colors of pink, blue, and green. Music was playing in the background and my cousins were greeting their friends as they came in. We watched as Peyton and Taylor handed their friends wine coolers and laughed when their friends pretended to be tipsy after two drinks. Suddenly, Trashed and Scattered ripped through my phone speakers and my phone began vibrating violently. All the eyes of my cousin’s friends shot to my group and I awkwardly waved.
“Really? You still have us as a ringtone?” Zach snickered. I grinned widely and shook my head.
“No. Only one of my friend’s has you as their ringtone. I know what this means.” With that, I snatched up my phone and ran down to the bottom of my apartment stairs before answering. “Kaleigh!”
Jessica Renee Caron,” my best friend Kaleigh yelled through the phone. I held my screen away from my ear, knowing I was going to get an earful on something. “It’s been almost two weeks since you told me they were coming in and I have yet to meet my idols.”
“Kal, Jacoby Shaddix is not at my house. I told you that.” I replied, grinning widely to myself. Kaleigh scoffed and I could see her rolling her eyes at me.
You know what I mean, Caron. I need to see Avenged Sevenfold.” Kaleigh commanded. I laughed and looked back at the patio. All five men were watching me, their eyes squinted in confusion. I smiled again and turned away.
“Well, if you’d like to come over now, we’re--”
Say no more. I’m on my way.” Kaleigh hung up immediately and I snickered, rolling my eyes. I slid my phone in my pocket and walked to the front of the house and pulled myself on top of James’ BMW. I watched all the cars drive past the driveway, most of them probably oblivious that there was a house behind all the trees. I clicked on my phone, playing Temple Run for the first time in a long time, but felt a tap on my leg quickly after I began a game.
“Yes?” I asked, not looking up from my phone. I heard a scoff and paused my game to see who was being annoying. I locked eyes with Peyton, who was tapping her bare food impatiently against the pavement.
“Do you and your friends have to be on the patio? I’m kind of having a party.” I rolled my eyes and leaned back on my arms. Sometimes I really dislike my cousins.
“We live here. Do you and your friends have to be here? You have a perfectly good backyard and I’m sure your family has enough alcohol for you guys.” I smiled sweetly, sarcasm thick in my voice. Peyton rolled her eyes at me before walking away, ending our conversation. I laughed a little and shook my head, entertained by how annoyed I’m able to make my cousin. Peyton wasn’t always like that, but after high school she just became something that the whole family couldn’t really stand. I continued to watch the road in front of my when my phone began buzzing.
“Yes?” I answered after looking at the contact.
“Where’d you go?” Zach asked, although he sounded muffled by the background noise coming through the phone.
“I’m waiting for someone. Don’t come up here.” I ordered. I wanted the guys meeting Kaleigh to be a surprise, especially since I thought they’d like her more than the rest of my friends.
“Why—Oh, Taylor’s asking who is coming over,” Zach muttered, sounding uncomfortable. I laughed and sighed.
“Tell her Kal in coming over.” I replied.
“Kal? Um, she says Kal is coming over.” I heard a loud scream from my backyard and I burst out into giggles. Taylor loved Kaleigh, especially since they were the same age as each other and was just as weird. “Who is Kal?”
“You’ll find out very soon.” I sang, hearing a car slow down in the distance.
“Can you at least promise me that it’s not another ex-boyfriend that you have befriended in your time being back here?” Zach questioned in a light voice. I smiled widely and sighed.
“I promise it’s not another befriended ex-boyfriend, Zach.” Just then, a sleek black 1970 Chevy Impala turned into the driveway, sounding like a tyrannosaurus rex as it parked roughly in the grass. “I gotta go. She’s here.” I hung up immediately and jumped off the roof to greet my friend. Kaleigh slid out of her car and waved at me. “Hey, Kal. Your car is as beautiful as ever.”
“And still three years too young.” Kaleigh laughed as she pulled me into a hug.
“Hey, at least your grandpa was nice enough to give you his Chevy. If my grandpa had this car he wouldn’t let me go near it.” We giggled and admired the car before Kaleigh turned to me. “So, can we go see my idols?”
“Sure, but I need you to do something for me first.” I replied as I looked up at her. I’ve seen tall girls before, but being friends with one made me feel like I was Cass standing next to Jimmy. Kaleigh was model material—really. She stood proudly at 5’9 ½” and her dark skin just added to her height. The white tube top that covered her body made her bust look incredibly busty and her flat stomach even flatter. The shorts and white converse made her legs look super long, and the white flower crown on the top of her head made her short, boy-cut, fire red hair look like she was a heavy rock version of Ariel in The Little Mermaid. Her large hazel eyes were lined with black and her thick lips were covered with bright red lipstick. There was not a doubt in my mind that Kaleigh totally deserve to be a model.
“No.” Kaleigh answered immediately. I rolled my eyes.
“No listen equals no boys.” Kaleigh stuck her tongue out at me and I mimicked her. “Kaleigh, when you go to meet the guys, please do not be a huge fan girl. We all know you have a huge crush on one of the guys—”
Yeah. I likes me some stallion duck.” Kaleigh sighed, zoning out as she began her many fantasies of Jimmy.
“I know, Kaleigh. We all likes us some stallion duck. But he’s a lone wolf right now and has been, so if you could refrain yourself from crawling on top of him and undressing him that would be great, okay?” Kaleigh smirked and nodded.
Fine, I won’t—Taylor!!!”
“Kaleigh!!” Kaleigh left my side and busted out into a full on sprint towards my younger cousin, who was standing up near the shop. I sighed and rolled my eyes. The perks of having younger friends. I began walking up towards the shop, knowing that the guys could not have missed an incredibly tall girl running towards my cousin, who has a voice so loud the heavens could probably hear her. I went up behind the two girls and watched as they frantically complimented each other, both making weird faces and noises as they did so.
“Kaleigh, would you like to meet the men that are staring at you like you’re an alien?” I chirped, my eyes watching the group of men as Kaleigh and Taylor fell over each other in hugs. They all were watching wide-eyed, but Jimmy especially seemed shocked by Kaleigh’s presence. Probably because of her height. Kaleigh pulled away from Taylor and followed my gaze to the circle of guys, a grin breaking out on her face. She jumped a little in her place and grabbed my arm, her crimson painted nails digging into my pale skin. I flinched and laughed a little before pulling off her grip and grabbing her hand. I led her over to the fire pit and stood between the empty seats and Matt before clearing my throat.
“Kaleigh, this is—don’t interrupt me I know you know their names but don’t you dare,” Kaleigh smirked and shifted in her spot, a guilty look on her face. “This is Matty-bear, Bri-Bri, J-Low, Zacky V and The freaking Rev, or Jimbo if you want to take the more subtle approach to greeting him.” The guys all laughed and Kaleigh was practically bouncing out of her shorts. “Everyone, this is Kaleigh. That’s Kaleigh spelled K-A-L-E-I-G-H because fuck being normal. She’s my half-black, Jimmy-level weird friend with a slight Texan accent who is 20 but drinks like 29-year-old rock stars.” They all laughed again and I glanced at Kaleigh. “Oh, she stands about half an inch shorter than Brian and if you’re all asking, yes my beautiful best friend here is a model and she looks damn fine in a swimsuit.”
“And she also works the flower crown.” Jimmy added, subtly winking at Kaleigh. Oh no. Kaleigh sucked in a deep breath and gripped my arm again.
I think I’m going to explode.” Kaleigh whispered, her eyes not leaving Jimmy. I grinned widely and raised my eyebrows at Jimmy.
“James Sullivan, you should know not to wink at fans when they just met you. You probably just caused an anxiety attack.” I scolded, a smile plastered on my face. Kaleigh took in a deep breath and closed her eyes, which made laughter erupt from my group of friends.
“I’m good. I’m good.” Kaleigh assured as she opened her eyes again. I smirked and bit my lip.
“That’s good. So that means you can go sit next to Jimmy.” I stated. Her head shot up and she looked at me with her eyes falling out of her head as she watched me take the single chair next to Matt. The only other seat was next to Jimmy, which I knew and was gladly forcing her to sit next to her soul mate.
“It’s fine, Kaleigh, Jimmy doesn’t bite.” Zacky called, holding his beer up to her.
“He does lick though.” Brian snickered as he sunk into his seat and took a drink of his beer.
“Yeah, he does tend to do that.” Johnny said in a thoughtful tone. We all laughed and Kaleigh flushed a bright red as she shuffled over to the spot next to Jimmy.
“So since you’re joining our circle of friends I guess it’s time to do the cut and spit.” I commented as Kaleigh’s butt hit the seat. She rose and eyebrow and I laughed. “The cut—” I pretended to cut my palm with my thumbnail and then pretended to lick it. “And spit.”
“I am not doing that.” Kaleigh scoffed. Another laugh went around the circle and I shook my head.
“We don’t do that,” Matt chuckled as he pulled out a new bottle of beer. “But we do, do the pop-n-swap.” Everyone looked over at him and he popped open the bottle, took a drink, and then handed it to me. I giggled and smiled.
“Pop-n-swap, that’s smart.” I laughed. Everyone nodded and took a drink before glancing over at Jimmy and Kaleigh. Jimmy was lounging with limp limbs, while Kaleigh was sitting stiffly and pin straight. I would be fooled by Kaleigh’s scared act since she’s usually a ball of fire if we weren’t around Jimmy, but for as long as I can remember she’s been in love with him so sitting next to him is probably making it physically impossible for her to be herself. I know that feeling, I thought. I rolled my eyes and motioned Matt to give me another bottle of alcohol. He handed it to me and I brought it over to Kaleigh, who was watching me with wide eyes.
“You have to pop-n-swap, Kaleigh.” I hissed in an almost seductive tone. She rose an eyebrow and I looked back at the guys. They all took a drink of their beers and handed it to another friend. They continued doing that and I tilted my head. “It’s a thing we do, and if you’re gonna be in this group you have to do it. Don’t worry; Jimmy’s the only one that doesn’t backwash his beer.”
“Hey, I heard that.” Brian snapped from behind me. I shrugged and gave her the beer. Once the sweating bottle was in Kaleigh’s hand, she immediately softened and opened the beer easily. She took a huge swig and handed it to Jimmy, who was watching her with large eyes. He sipped and handed it back to her, which resulted in her downing it and burping a little. All of us cheered and Jimmy laughed loudly.
“Oh man, she’s a keeper.” He chuckled as his arm slid around the back of the loveseat. Everyone nodded and I gave her another beer before sitting down and looking around. Peyton and Taylor were having their party, we were having ours, the nice was clear and warm and beautiful, and the night ended in drunken laughter and a lot of empty beer bottles. I always knew Kaleigh would fit in here, and now seeing how well the guys loved her, I knew that tonight would not be the last time we saw her.

Notes

If you guys didn't catch on, Kaleigh is Miss Jimmy Sullivan. I promised her she would be in the story and it was my leverage for when she was being mean to me. I hope you all like her because like Kid said, you will be seeing more of her. Enjoy the chapter! :D ~Jessi
