It had been a month since Jimmy had been home from the hospital and he was doing pretty good. The medicine the doctors had him on was still making him drowsy but overall, he was still his goofy self. The first week was hard for him because his body wasn't used to the medicine and I had to stay home from work to help him and take care of the house.
But after that week I had to go back to work so I had my boys come over during the day to watch him and keep him company. That was good for him but I still worried. Jimmy had always drank when he was stressed and now that he was stressed because he drank so much, he couldn't drink. It was hard on him but he had all of us to be there for him and help him.
The guys had taken a break from making the album so that Jimmy could rest up, but now Larry was pushing for them to begin work on it again and Jimmy couldn't be happier. He had never been the kind of person to just sit around. Jimmy had always been on the move and lately he had been so restless and all he wanted to do was play his drums again.
They would start back up on the album tomorrow and Jimmy was ecstatic. He hated not being able to play music because of all of this so he had spent so much time playing the piano and video games just to keep his hands busy.
Today, the guys plus Val and Michelle were coming over to hang out with us before the guys went back to work. Jimmy and I were doing a little bit of last minute cleaning before they showed up. I was vacuuming and Jimmy was cleaning up the kitchen.
I finished with the living room and I could here Jimmy humming a tune he had come up with the night before. I smiled as I moved to put the vacuum cleaner into the front closet. I was just lifting it up to place it to the back when it was taken from my hands.
Jimmy moved around me and stuck the vacuum against the far wall. He closed the door and turned to look at me with a lopsided smile.
I put my hands on my hips. "I could have done that you know."
Jimmy shook his head as he placed one hand on my back and the other on my growing belly. "Nope. No heavy lifting for the mother of my children."
Over the last week or so, I had been able to feel movement from the babies and I could feel it now as Jimmy's hand was making circles over my shirt.
I smiled as I looked up at him. "You woke them up," I said.
"They know who their daddy is and they're excited about meeting me," Jimmy said as he leaned down to kiss me.
Just then, the doorbell chimed through the house and I sighed. Of course our friends had impeccable timing. I gave Jimmy a quick kiss before I made my way around him to open the front door for everyone.
I opened the door to find all four of my boys standing there with Val and Michelle in front of the group with huge smiles on their faces. The two women hugged me at the same time and then I scooted to the side so they could all come inside. The guys immediately made their way into the living room and pulled Jimmy into a group hug like always.
I had noticed that since Jimmy had been brought home, the guys were always hugging him when they could and doing the best they could to keep him happy. I noticed this because I was doing the same thing. We had almost lost our Jimmy and none of us knew what we'd do without him.
The five guys moved upstairs to Jimmy's office/gaming room to most likely play Call of Duty while us girls stayed downstairs. I was sitting on the couch with Michelle and Val sat across from us in the armchair. I leaned back and started to rub my belly in circles. I could feel them moving again and I smiled.
"So when do you learn the sex of our babies?" Val asked.
I laughed. "Tomorrow actually. Jimmy and I have an appointment to tell the gender so he's going to take a break from being at the studio to go with me."
Michelle nodded. "Good. I want to know what colors to start picking out before I spoil them like crazy."
I smiled thinking about how spoiled these babies would be with two parents, four uncles and two aunts that would love them so much. They would have the best childhood and I would garauntee that.
Val leaned forward and talked quietly so Michelle and I had to also lean forward to hear what she was saying. "I have a secret that I haven't even told Matt yet," she said.
Michelle clapped. "Ooh juicy. Do tell."
Val's smile grew so big I thought her face would break. "I'm pregnant."
Both Michelle and I squealed, jumped up and pulled Val to her feet so we could hug her. "That's amazing, Val!" I said. "Our babies will be cousins!"
"How far along are you?" Michelle asked.
"Five weeks," Val answered. "I went to the doctor yesterday just to make sure."
"And Matt doesn't know?" I asked.
"Matt doesn't know what?" we heard come from the other side of the room. We looked up to see Matt standing at the bottom of the stairs watching us with a suspicious look.
"What are you doing down here?" Michelle asked him.
"I came down to get water for us," Matt said without taking his eyes off his wife. "What don't I know, Val. What are you hiding?"
Val sighed. "I'm not hiding anything from you, Mattie. I just have something to tell you."
Matt walked over to us, stood in front of his wife and crossed his arms. "Ok. Then tell me what it is."
I rolled my eyes at Matt's behavior. He had never liked being out of the loop of anything especially when it was about him. I hoped he felt like a huge ass after he learned just what it was she wasn't telling him.
Val place her hands on her hips and cocked an eyebrow. "I don't think I want to tell you if you're going to act like that about it. It's actually good news so calm the fuck down."
Immediately, Matt relaxed his posture and rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry, babe," he said sheepishly.
Val also relaxed and put an hand on his arm. "It's fine, baby. Now, can I tell you what I need to tell you?" Matt nodded and Val smiled. "Mattie, I'm pregnant."
Matt stared at his wife with wide eyes for so long I thought maybe he had been frozen like that. Finally, a smile crept across his face and he pulled Val to his chest. "Oh my God that's fucking amazing!" he said before he leaned down and gave her a very passionate kiss.
Michelle and I smiled at each other as the happy couple kissed. Soon, they broke apart and Matt quickly moved to the stairs. "Where are you going?" I asked him.
"I have to tell the guys!" Matt said with a huge smile before he ran up the stairs two at a time yelling, "Guys! Guys, guess what!!"
We all laughed as we sat back down. Soon, we heard hollering coming from upstairs and then heavy footsteps on the stairs as the four other men came running into the living room. I laughed as they all pulled Val into a group hug.
"Now we're going to have three babies to spoil!" Zack shouted.
Jimmy hugged Matt and said, "I told you it would work out for you."
I smiled at my family around me and how happy we all were for Val and Matt. Our family was slowly growing and we would all be there for each other.
The next day, Jimmy left with the guys early in the morning to go to the studio and I stopped by at about noon to pick him up for our appointment. The entire way to the doctor's office, Jimmy drummed on his knees to whatever music was on the radio.
I smiled over at him. "Happy about being back at the studio?"
Jimmy nodded vigorously. "Very much so. I hated being away from my drums. But now I am feeling so much better."
Later, at the doctor's office, I was laying on that uncomfortable bed/table thing. Jimmy was rummaging through the drawers when Doctor Dude came in the room. He quickly stood up straight and smiled much like a child who just got caught doing something they shouldn't be doing.
The doctor laughed at Jimmy as he closed the door behind him and sat down on his stool. "It's good to see you two again. James, I heard about your close call last month. I hope you are feeling better?"
Jimmy nodded. "I am, but how did you hear about that."
Doctor Dude laughed lightly. "I am good friends with the ER doctor that handled your case and he was worried about you. He knew I had met you before because my son won't stop talking about how his dad had met his favorite drummer." The doctor nodded to himself and pulled out his clipboard. "Ok, Brooke. You're here to determine the sex of your babies."
I nodded. "Yes. Our friends are just as excited as we are to know," I said laughing.
The doctor smiled. "Alright then. Well, let's get started."
A nurse named Gena came in the room and helped Doctor Dude set up the machine. Gena squirted that cold gel shit on my stomach. The doctor moved the stick over my stomach and was clicking away on the buttons.
A few minutes later, he moved the screen so it was facing us. Jimmy held my hand as we both leaned closer to get a better look. The blobs on the screen were starting to look more like babies. I could see their little heads and feet. I smiled looking at mine and Jimmy's children.
Doctor Dude paused the screen and pointed to it. "Alright. We're in luck. They are in the perfect position to see the sex of both of them. Your babies are faternal twins. One is a boy and the other is a girl."
Jimmy and I grinned at each other. We had each wanted a boy or a girl and now we were getting both. I don't think either one of us could get anymore excited.
Doctor Dude said his goodbyes and left Gena to help me clean the gunk off my stomach. She smiled warmly at me as she helped me sit up. "You two are very lucky. I've always wanted twins."
I returned her smile. "Thank you. I feel lucky as well."
"I think you're the lucky one," Jimmy said smiling at the both of us. I looked at him with a raised eyebrow and he held his hands up in defense. "I only meant that she gets to work for Doctor Dude. That's sounds like a kick ass super hero's name."
Both the nurse and I laughed at my husband. "I never thought of that before but you're right," Gena said.
Soon, we got a print out of the sonogram and were headed home to tell our friends the good news.
