Glimmer of Hope

Chapter Eighty-Seven:

Doug’s POV

“Adam was spotted last night.” Tony told me. My ears perked up and I looked over at him, suddenly more hopeful than I have been in days.

“Where?” I asked him.

“A couple hours from here – I already sent some of my men to check it out. So far, they haven’t seen anything. It’s likely that he isn’t even in the area, anymore. He could have traveled away from wherever Lydia is being held for supplies. I just thought you should know.”

“I appreciate that.” I assured him. He gave me a sad smile.

“I want you to know that I take full responsibility for everything. I should have waited to go on break. I think that Rick and the other guys could handle keeping watch for a while. I’m so sorry, Doug.” Tony apologized. I pulled him into a hug.

“I don’t blame you, old friend. It’s not your fault.” I promised him.

“We will get her back.” He vowed. I smiled and nodded in agreement. Tony’s phone rang and he excused himself. I know that he won’t admit it, but I can tell that he’s gotten attached to Lydia, just like the rest of us have. He’s never been a man of many words, but he talks to her more than he has ever spoken to me.

Tony’s POV

I got into my car and started driving to the area that Adam was spotted in. If waiting and watching is all that I can do, then that’s what I’ll do. It’s not a question.

Hours went by and I was on my fourth cup of coffee. I haven’t seen anything. I started my car and pulled out of my parking spot. I’ll call it a night and pick things up again, tomorrow.

I was halfway down the street when I spotted him. He was moving leisurely, so he wouldn’t attract any extra attention to himself. I almost missed him. He’s carrying paper bags that look to be groceries. I pulled up closer to watch him, but stayed far enough away to stay out of sight. They look like they could be medical supplies. Hopefully that means that Lydia is still alive.

I waited for him to get into his car and pull away. I stayed three cars behind him and followed him for a good hour, before we came to an abandoned looking house in the middle of nowhere. It’s not falling apart by any means, but it looks like it’s long since been deserted. I watched Adam as he parked his car and head inside. Something in my gut told me that this is where he was keeping her.

I pulled out my phone and called Doug.

“I think I found her.” I told him as soon as I heard him pick up.

“Where?” He asked me. I rattled off the address. “Don’t do anything without backup. I’m on my way. I’ll call when I’m close enough and ring the police. Thanks mate. Hang tight.” He added, before ending the call. I loaded two magazines into my holster and made sure I was well armed, before settling back in my seat.

I don’t want to wait, but I know Doug is right. There is strength in numbers.

Ahhh, I loved it :D
I can't believe I read this in three days! I loved the characters, not all of them but majority :)
And throughout this whole story, I realized Brian was calling Lydia 'Ace'. I really didn't get why....but anyways! This was amazing :)
