Almost Easy

I'm a Father. I Can't Calm Down.

Chapter Eighty-One:

Doug’s POV

“Dad, calm down! I’m sure Lydia’s okay.” Zachary pleaded with me, as I paced our downstairs. I was fuming. I can’t remember the time that I was this livid.

“Zack, don’t. I don’t even fucking know if she is alive! I understand that you’re worried about Lydia, too, but do not ask me to be calm! I cannot! It’s exactly the same as I would be feeling, if you had been taken! How do you think I felt when you’re stepmother had you beaten?! Just give me some time to myself.” I glowered. I pressed a hand to my temple and tried to calm myself, but I knew it wouldn’t work. My son placed a hand on my shoulder and squeeze, before walking away.

Holland has tried to help, too, but even she is keeping her distance. She knows that it feels like I’ve lost a child, and I have. I have no idea what I’m going to do, if I’m not able to get her back.

I’ve been reaching out to family members that I normally don’t associate with. Because of my son, I’ve never been involved in the high-rate crimes that the rest of my family have been. I’m not denying that I haven’t had my toes in the water, but it’s nothing compared to the others.

I have so many connections and no one has heard anything. To say that Adam is being careful is an understatement. I’m praying with every fiber in my being that he slips up. If he doesn’t, I don’t know how I’ll find her.

I have people digging and looking for anything that can be used related to Derek, Lynn or Adam. I’ve spoken to Lynn, but she denies all involvement in the kidnapping. I doubt that she knows all of the details, but I know that she’s hiding something.

Because I was dating Lynn when she moved out here, I was the one who purchased her house for her and our daughter. The house is in my name and I had every intention of letting her keep it. That changed as soon as Lydia was taken.

I had my attorney issue her an eviction notice by month’s end. I already have another buyer who has purchased it from me.

Lynn showed up on my doorstep wailing and making a scene. I told her that if she didn’t have any useful information for me, that she needed to leave. She didn’t, so I called the police and had her escorted away. I’m not playing, by any means and I have no patience for anyone’s games.

I’ve spoken with the police and told them that I know that Lynn is hiding information, but they told me that unless I had absolute proof, their hands were tied.

I’m getting my daughter back and I’ll be damned if anyone tries to stop me.

Notes

I know it's short - sorry. Tomorrow's chapter should be like quadruple this. Also, for anyone following my other story, that will also be updated tomorrow.:)

Tomorrow will be Oliver's POV. Stay tuned!

Lots of love and chocolate and other good things that I'm too tired to think of,
Katie

I have a deep admiration for how much time and thought was put into this. Amazingly well done. Brava.

Ahhh, I loved it :D
I can't believe I read this in three days! I loved the characters, not all of them but majority :)
And throughout this whole story, I realized Brian was calling Lydia 'Ace'. I really didn't get why....but anyways! This was amazing :)
