Valary

Hannah’s P.O.V
It felt so good to be home, to sleep in my own bed again and after being off on vacation for what felt like forever, Matt and I could finally start trying to start our family in our own home.
I woke up with the sun spilling into the bedroom and Matt shifting beside me, getting out of bed.

“Morning,” I smiled, rolling over to face him, pulling the soft white sheet higher over my naked body “Where are you going?” I asked.

“Good morning,” He flashed me a dimpled smile and leaned down to kiss me “I’m going to make my gorgeous fiancée a delicious breakfast,”

“Would that delicious breakfast be a fry-up?” I asked, biting my bottom lip. Other than my family, the main thing I missed about home was the food.

“Anything you want baby,” He smiled again and turned to leave.

“I’ll be down in a few minutes,” I called out after him as I pulled myself out of bed. I needed to make myself somewhat decent before making my way through the house. We’ve learned since we got this place that the guys will still just wander into the house unannounced, or at least they used to, until they found Matt and I going at it like… dogs… in the kitchen.

I wrapped my hair up on top of my head, shoved on a pair of Matt’s boxers and an old t-shirt of mine and a pair of socks.

Suddenly, as I thought about the fact that I was starting my own family here in America, I felt homesick, more homesick than I had been when I first moved here. I’m getting married in less than three months for Christ’s sake and I haven’t even sent my save-the-dates to my family and friends who are coming out here for the actual wedding and reception, before we fly out to Scotland to have another party with everyone else.

I lifted my phone off of the bedside table and went to my contacts, selecting a number I haven’t called in a long, long time. Lucy.

“Hello?” Lucy answered after a few rings.

“Lucy?” I asked, a smile spreading across my face and tears forming in my eyes.

“Oh my God,” She whispered “Hannah, is that you?” She asked, I could hear her throat tightening just like mine was.

“I missed you so much,” I admitted with a laugh as the first tear slipped down my cheek.

“You’ve been gone for so long,” She chuckled “And already you’re making me cry,”

“Sorry,” I sniffed “And I’m sorry for just calling out of the blue,”

“Isn’t this going to be costing you so much money from all the way out there?” She asked.

“Who cares?” I asked rhetorically “So, mum’s been keeping me updated on your life, you got engaged?” I asked.

“Married too,” She admitted “And before you say anything about not being invited, everyone was going crazy with wedding planning that we got sick of it all and just eloped, we sped off to Vegas for the weekend and did it there,”

“Well, Jamie’s a lucky guy,” I told her “I’m sorry I’ve missed so much,”

“I’m sorry too,” She sighed “I should come out there and visit, I’d probably be able to make it out there in a few months,”

“That’s great, because I’m flying you out here…” I trailed off “For my wedding,”

“That’s right,” She gasped “Your fucking dream came true, you met that singer from that band you loved in high school, didn’t you?”

“Mum been keeping you updated?”

“You know it,” She laughed.

“Well, I gotta go, got a busy day ahead of me, but keep an eye on the mail, your invite should be through pretty soon, text me your address, okay?”

“Okay, bye, Banana.”

“Bye, LooLoo.”

“What took you so long?” Matt asked when I walked into the kitchen, pouring myself a mug of coffee.

“I phoned Lucy,” I smiled up at him.

“Your best friend from when you were kids?” He asked and I nodded.

Lucy and I had been best friends our entire lives. She was only months older than me, out mothers were best friends and therefore, we were raised together and spent every other day with each other, we made it all the way through high school as best friends too, and then we sort of lost contact when she went to University and then of course, I moved myself out here.

“I’m inviting her to the wedding,”

“So, how many people are you flying out here now?” He asked, teasingly, wrapping his arms around my waist and lifting me onto the counter.

“Ten family and friends, Lucy will be one bridesmaid and then I’ve got three of my cousins as the others, plus Erin as maid of honour of course,”

“And you’re doing some more planning today, right?”

“Right,” I nodded “I’m also going to write up all of the invitations and post them on my way to meet Val,” I sighed the last part, I really didn’t feel like dealing with Val tonight “What time should you be home from the studio?” I asked.

“In time to have dinner with my fiancée and help write invitations,”

I took Hannah over to Brian and Erin’s house so I could go to the studio with Brian and the ladies could get some more shopping and planning done.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” Brian yelled over and over as he messed up his solo again.

“Dude, breathe,” I chuckled, clapping him on the shoulder “Go outside, have a smoke and then come back and try again,” He just nodded, muttered a ‘thanks’ to me and left. I sat back down on the couch in the corner of the room, lifting my notebook onto my lap again.

“What’ve you got there?” Johnny asked, taking a seat beside me.

“My speech, for the wedding,” I told him, rubbing my hands down my face and groaning into them “There’s so much I want to say to her in it, but I can’t put it into the right words, it’s honestly like writing an essay in school or something,”

“Dude, this is something special that you’re going to say to your wife, it shouldn’t feel like a chore, plus, you’ve written so many amazing songs over the years, are you seriously telling me that you can’t come up with something the least bit romantic for the woman you love? The woman who is now your inspiration for everything you do?”

“Johnny…” I finally said, turning to face him with a huge smile “You’re a fucking genius,”

I’d headed home from the studio earlier than I’d told Hannah, hoping to get dinner cooked for her coming home, maybe some of the invitations written too, before we headed to bed to maybe make a baby.

I walked into the kitchen and immediately started looking through the contents of the fridge, hoping to find something good to cook, but before I decided on anything, there was a knock at the door.

“Coming!” I called out, walking back through the house in the direction of the door. I swung it open without looking to see who it was, but standing there was the last person I wanted to see. Val “What are you doing here?” I asked “Hannah won’t be home for another hour,”

“I know,” She smiled, sliding past me and into the house “It’s you I’m here for though,”

“What?” I asked, confused “Why would you be here for me?”

“Because, Matt.” She stepped close to me, backing me against the wall, using her finger to hold my chin up so I was looking at her “I need you out of the picture so that I can have her all to myself,”

“What the fuck, Val?!” I yelled, pushing her away from me “You girls had a deal, one deal, she has dinner and drinks with you and you leave her alone, and you don’t do anything to ruin the band,”

“Well, maybe that isn’t how tonight will play out,” She purred “Maybe, Hannah and I go out to dinner, we have a few drinks and then she comes home to a still empty house, you weren’t here when she came home to get ready to meet me, but it’s late now and there’s no sign of you anywhere, she gets worried and calls Erin, maybe Brian’s gone too, soon, they’ll become weak and vulnerable, that’s where Gena and I come in, we’re their shoulders to cry on when they don’t have each other,”

“You’re sick,” I spat.

“No, Matt.” She stepped close to me again “I’m in love with your fiancée,”

The next thing I felt was a sharp pain in my neck. My hand raised to the area where the pain was and I pulled a syringe out of my skin.

“What the…” I collapsed. My body hit the hardwood floor with a thud, and the last thing I saw before I blacked out were two guys hurrying into the house and lifting me off the ground.

Drinks with Val hadn’t been as bad as I thought, she didn’t blackmail me, she just… had fun. But nothing planned out the way I’d wanted it to, I didn’t make it back to her place, but she’d promised me that she’d be in touch and we’d be seeing each other again very soon.

I’d came home to find the house empty, Matt still wasn’t home, but I knew he wasn’t at the studio still, it would be closed now, it was past midnight anyway. I dropped my keys onto the table at the front door and hung up my coat before slipping out of my heels, that’s when I noticed it. The picture of Matt and I that sat on the table beside the bowl where we keep the keys was knocked over, face down against the table. I hurried into the kitchen and found the fridge door hadn’t been closed right. I grabbed my phone and called Matt, but I was only met with his phone ringing in the other room. I hung up and my phone started ringing.

“Hey hun!” I answered, seeing it was Erin.

“Hey, was Matt home when you left to meet Val?” She asked, sounding worried.

“No, he wasn’t, why?” I asked.

“Bri isn’t home, he won’t answer my calls… and he wasn’t here when I left,” I let out a sigh and took shallow breaths, silently counting in my head as I tried to keep myself calm.

“When we were out today Matt was replying to my texts, but I’ve heard nothing from him since I came home, something isn’t right here, the fridge was open slightly and our picture at the front door was knocked over,” I told her, making my way from the kitchen to the living room “He’s been home,” I told her “His phone is here,” I lifted it and unlocked it, smiling at the picture of me sleeping as his wallpaper.

“Anything on there that might tell you where he went?” She asked.

“Hold on,” I told her, tapping on the message icon to see if he had gone with Brian or one of the guys, but what I saw made my stomach drop and my chest tighten.

“Hannah?” Erin asked when I didn’t say anything after a few moments “Hannah, talk to me, what did you find?” I looked at it again, actually, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it.

I’ll be there in ten, hope your woman doesn’t come home before we get away for the night – R

“He’s cheating on me,” I whispered as my legs gave underneath me and I dropped to the ground, clutching my phone in one hand and Matt’s in the other.
