Scars.

Nine.

McKenna POV.
Jimmy whistled.
“Damn Syn, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, your girl’s a badass.” I raised my eyebrows at him.
“That’s it! Forget all about the gut shot on the floor.” Growled Johnny, cursing as he tried to sit up. Zacky moved over to check that he was ok.
“Stop being a pussy. It’s only a graze and wasn’t even a silver bullet. You’ll heal in a couple of hours.” Johnny pulled a face as Zacky helped him to his feet.
“Well still it hurts.”
“It would hurt worse if Mac hadn’t warned you.” Snapped Matt, checking the guy over. He slapped his face a couple of times. “Hey buddy, you hear me?” the guy groaned and nodded. “Good. You’re one lucky bastard. Both bullets went clean through. You’re lucky she missed.” I was offended.
“Excuse me, who said that I’d missed?” Syn hid his grin as Matt scowled at me.
“You didn’t hit anything vital.”
“I hit his hand and his knee, exactly what I had aimed for. I don’t kill without reason Sanders.” I snapped, flicking the safety back on. “At least I was actually watching him.” That shut the lot of them up. I turned and stalked back to the van. “You lot had better shove him in here, someone could have heard his gunshot.” I yanked the door open a bit harder than necessary as I climbed into the passenger seat.
“Not likely. Neither gunshots made a sound. Odd for an unsilenced gun.” Commented Jimmy, his eyes firmly focused on me. Dammit, I’d hoped that no-one had noticed that. The look in his eyes told me that he knew that I’d done something, but was unsure what.
“Never mind that now.” Grunted Syn as he helped Matt lift the guy. “We act as if we’ve been compromised. We’ll take him to the warehouse and talk to him there. Get in the van. Mac you drive.” I switched seats, slightly confused.
“Why me?” I asked as they dumped the guy on the floor in the back. Jimmy slid into the seat next to me.
“You’re less likely to be stopped. I’ll give you directions. Stick to the limit. Obey the rules.” He instructed. I nodded. It made sense. No-one would suspect me of having two shot werewolves in the back.

~*~

I pulled into a derelict industrial yard, stopping the van in front of an old crumbling warehouse. The boys quickly unloaded the guy out of the van and took him straight into the warehouse. I helped Johnny after them, a first aid kit shoved under the arm that he wasn’t leaning on. Once inside I sat him down on a box near to where the guys were stood.
“Ok handsome, shirt off.” I ordered, opening the first aid kit. Syn turned to look at me, but quickly turned his attention back to the conversation once he realised what I was doing. Johnny winced as he pulled the t-shirt over his injured arm. It wasn’t much more than a graze where the bullet had passed him, but who knew where that bullet had been before. As I set about cleaning it, Matt began to talk to the dude that I’d shot.
“Ok, let’s cut to the chase Damien. Why are you continuously skulking about on our land?” Damien said nothing. “Look at it this way, you talk, you get first aid treatment and the fast you get that, the less likely that your wounds will become infected.” He still remained stubbornly quiet. I watched Matt try unsuccessfully to coax him into talking for about ten minutes. Eventually he snapped and punched Damien in the face. I took a sterile gauze pad out of its packaging and ordered Johnny to hold it in place while I tried to find a bandage. That search proved about as unsuccessful as Matt attempts with Damien. However, I found an alternative solution: vet wrap. Matt didn’t. I raised an eyebrow in question at Johnny, holding up the roll of pink camouflage vet wrap.
“We pack the first aid kits so that we can treat wolves as well as people.” He explained, looking unhappy at the prospect of having his arm wrapped in pink.
“Fair enough. Good thing that this stuff works on humans too.” I commented, starting to wind it around his arm. “There, good as new.” I proclaimed, starting to tidy up. Johnny eyed his now pink upper arm and sighed.
“That’s the last time I ask Val to stock the first aid kit.” I snorted and headed over to the guys. He pulled his shirt on and followed me. Jimmy snickered quietly when he noticed Johnny’s arm. Syn smirked.
“Nice arm, Christ.”
“Shut up.” Matt was growing more and more impatient with our guest. I sighed as I caught sight of the guy’s face. I moved over to where Matt and Damien were, laying a hand on Matt’s arm as he pulled back for another punch.
“Enough. Much more and he won’t be able to talk, even if he wants to.” Matt nodded and took a step back. “Why don’t ya let me have a go?” I suggested as he ran a hand over his face. Syn took a couple of steps forward to join us.
“I don’t know, Mac. Usually Matt has them singing by now.” I sent him a look that told him that I wasn’t fooled. I was about to snap at him, when Matt spoke.
“We’ve got nothing to lose Syn. After all, she surprised us all earlier.” I smiled my thanks at him, turning round to grab the first aid kit. Syn opened his mouth to protest, but my hand on his arm stopped him.
“Trust me.” I whispered as I passed. He nodded and stepped back. I crouched down next to the semi-conscious Damien, grinning as I saw my handiwork close up. My first bullet had gone clean through his palm, forcing him to drop the gun. The second had gone through the tendons behind his knee, effectively stopping him from running anywhere. It was this wound that I looked at first. I pulled his shorts up, inspecting it closely. He was lucky that he’d been side-on to me, otherwise he wouldn’t be walking again if the bullet had hit his knee-cap. I pulled a bottle of iodine out of the first aid kit, pouring it over the hole. I noticed Johnny wince as he watched me, he’d had the same treatment, although I’d bothered to dilute the iodine I used on him. Damien came roaring back to full consciousness as the pain hit him. For those who haven’t had wounds cleaned with iodine before, the stinging agony could be a bit of a shock. He growled furiously at me and kicked out at me with his good leg. Syn took a step forward, but stopped when he realised that I’d dodged it without much thought. Please, it was barely a kick worthy of a kyū 1 student, absolutely nothing for a dan black belt like me. I don’t think the others saw me move as I combined my were speed with the speed I got from my father in order to slam the irritating gnat against the wall. I held him by the throat about a foot off the ground with no trouble at all. He wheezed for breath as I checked my nails. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Matt nod, impressed.
“Damien, isn’t it? How nice of you to join us in the land of the living. However, if you want to remain here I wouldn’t recommend trying to kick the only person in this room who is trying to help you.” He muttered something that sounded remarkably like bitch. “Thank you, I am. Now let’s cut to the chase here. I was trying to help you, but you’ve managed to irk me enough to change my mind about that.” I dropped my free hand and looked up at Damien, allowing coldness to seep into my gaze. He was still wheezing, but nowhere near suffocating. “You have some information that these guys are interested in.” I nodded my head sideways at the guys, who were all gawking at me open-mouthed. “You are going to tell that what they want to know or I am going to rip your throat out. Understand?”
“You wouldn’t dare.” He rasped, trying feebly to break my grip on his neck.
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that Damien. You don’t know what I’m capable of. I am totally different to these guys. I have no morals. I’ve done things that would curl the hairs on your toes and not missed a wink of sleep over it.” Not strictly true, but he wouldn’t know any different. “They don’t want you dead, they’re not murders. I’m not like them. I couldn’t care less if you choked to death right now. Look into my eyes Damien and tell me again that I wouldn’t dare. Go on, I dare you.” I hated the sound of my voice. It was cold, empty. It’s like I was back in the past again and I didn’t like how easily I’d stepped back into those shoes. Damien didn’t know this. He took one look at my eyes, which by now were wolf yellow, and promptly began to sob. I lowered my arm and dropped him. I walked away from him, back to the guys. I forced the wolf back and my eyes turned brown and green again. The tension bled from my shoulders as I let go of the cold part of my soul. I wasn’t that person anymore. I never would be. I’d killed that part of me a long time ago and she wasn’t coming back. I could still be her when I needed to, but she wasn’t me. I stopped in front of the guys, smugly taking in their stunned looks.
“He’ll talk.”
“Holy shit! My Lemon-Pie’s a badass.” Exclaimed Jimmy, his jaw dropping almost to the floor. Syn mock-glared at him.
“No, she’s mine.” He replied, pulling me into a hug.
